Title: Sleep Cycles
Post by: Socker on January 11, 2014, 08:43:39 PM
So over my Winter break between semesters, for some reason my sleep cycle has gradually been getting worse. At this point it's so bad that I stayed up all last night, went to bed at 8 in the morning, and didn't wake up until just now, at 3:30 in the afternoon. I didn't purposely stay up all night, I just have not been able to go to sleep. Considering I'm going to have morning and early afternoon classes starting Monday, do you guys have any possible advice for me?

If you aren't against it, I recommend zzzquil.  http://zzzquil.com/faq/ (http://zzzquil.com/faq/)
I took it the first couple weeks when I got shifted to night shift.  Just to get my sleep cycle to something normal

More than likely, the first week or so will be tough, but your sleep schedule should naturally fix itself once you begin waking up at a set time.

If it doesn't, use drugs to make you sleep.

Don't use any electronics after 8 pm or so, or use f.lux for your computer.

3:30? That's not fucked at all. Just sleep for a couple hours before classes start and endure the first day with caffeine, and you'll be perfectly fine.

I actually knew I would have this problem with electronics mostly, so I left my laptop at home until I got this under control. Still screwing around on my phone though, like right now. I'll probably just have to stuck it up for the first week or so, my schedule will likely force me into somewhat normal hours starting Monday.

When you're tired, go to bed, and remove all distractions from your room. Only go to bed to sleep, don't teach yourself to do anything else like play on phones or laptops.

I mess up my sleep schedule every weekend cause I'm such a night owl. Wake up really early the day before school (or in your case take a nap rather than a full 8-3 sleep cycle), do some chores or something to wear yourself out, take some zzquil and a shower/bath, then read in bed.

My sleep cycle got so broken that I don't even really have a well-defined cycle anymore. I occasionally stick to a temporary one when I really do need to be up at a certain time, but even then it's a struggle. It's kind of fucked.

Everyone is going to die young except me. 8 hours of sleep a day, baby.

Same here on the weekdays. On the weekends it's more like 10 hours.

Too much sleep gives you cancer as well.

Sleep cycles also depend on the person. Some people don't need as much while others need more.

Another sleepless night. Hope I don't decide to crash in the middle of calculus. I didn't even crash from my caffeine high last night, it was more of a gradual decline into normalcy.

I think we've identified a problem.

Just stay up until your morning classes are done. Noon to 8pm is fine for sleeping, and then you can stay up all night.

I try to stick to a normal one, every once in a while I slip and have to work my way back around in increments over a period of about a week or so. Sometimes I can go backwards instead of forwards, which is harder but quicker.
