Title: Got me. New video card...
Post by: Lord Dave on October 30, 2021, 08:45:26 AM
I was lucky enough to get my hands on the new 6600 radeon (https://www.asus.com/Motherboards-Components/Graphics-Cards/Dual/DUAL-RX6600-8G/) (not the xt).
It is such a nice improvement from my old card.

Idle temps are around 33C with passive cooling while using 4W on a dual monitor setup. (1080p)
On load, hits about 45C with 1200rpm on the fan, which is nice and quiet.
Getting a good 90fps in New World.

My old card hit 55C on idle at 1200rpm.  So yeah... So much more efficient.

... and how much did you have to pay for said GPU?

4,800 Norwegian Kroner.
I prefer to divide by 10 for US Dollar equivalent (which is not the official exchange rate) to estimate buying power because prices are more expensive but salaries are also higher.
So by my estimate: $480.
By actual USD: $568.96

MSRP is $329.

Expensive?  Yes.  But frankly, I needed an upgrade.  The jet engine of the 3000 rpm fan whenever I ran any game newer than 2018 was annoying.  Plus, this uses far less power.

I'm in the same place. I need a new PC. This one is 5 years old and my rx580 which has been a very good servant is getting a bit long in the tooth.

But I'd want to spend about £300-£350 on a new GPU, which right now would just about get me ... a Th>o<rking rx580!

6600 is exactly the type of card I would want to buy ... but not at these prices. I'll wait until next year now.

Maybe sell your rx580 and use that to offset a new card?

Can't. Its soldered to the board of my AIO. When I build my next computer ... it will have to be from scratch. Although those M1 macs are very tempting.

Well, at least you have heat pipes.
