Flat Earth Media / Save the Repository
« on: January 14, 2015, 07:17:35 PM »
I'm grateful for the information contained in the FES Repository, it's interesting reading and whether people believe it or not, is up to them.  Either way, it would be shame to lose it to history.  Some of the scanned documents are a little hard to read and in the interest of letting people read it and make up their own minds, I'm happy to start retyping and handing them over to the Society for their use.

To that end, is anyone else interested in tackling the matter ?  If so, it would be helpful to co-ordinate efforts to avoid duplicating the work.  If someone is prepared to take the reins I'm happy to work on it; If not, I'll start as I see fit and see how far I get.

Any takers ?

Flat Earth Theory / Moonlight Models Don't Work
« on: December 23, 2014, 09:37:46 PM »
I've read through the boards and can't find this topic with any refutation so I hope a little resurrection is in order.

If moonlight is reflected sunlight, the models for moonlight don't work for spherical-earth or flat-earth models.

Spherical Earth:
For a full moon; If the moon is held to be on the opposite side of earth from the sun, would that not create a lunar eclipse ?
For a full moon; If the moon is held to be on the same side of earth as the sun, would that not simply be a solar eclipse ?
For a full moon; If the moon is above/below the line of sight would the moon not have a dark edge below/above ?

Bendy light around a spherical object, depending on the surface, might bring the light to a focal point or scatter it as a flare; We see neither.

Conclusion:
The moon is a light source.

Thoughts please - sensible answers only.

Flat Earth Community / Is This Society Real ?
« on: December 13, 2014, 11:10:12 PM »
For the avoidance of doubt, I have opened this thread to secure an honest answer; To wit, is the Flat Earth Society real ?

Having ploughed through the threads here and on the 'other' FES website, I am coming to the conclusion that the boards amount to little more than an exercise in Empire Building; Occasionally, some topics appear as little more than a window for apparent 'great thinkers' to hurl insults and expound their peculiar brand of wisdom to people they feel have not looked into 'the blatantly obvious' lines of enquiry.  I am beyond the days of "it was on TV so it must be true" and "everybody knows, it's obvious"; It would be good to find a few people who can think for themselves.

So; Is this Society real or is it another internet mosh pit ?

Serious replies only please.

Kind Regards.
