So if the earth is flat?

so if the earth is flat riddle me this? why do things falling in a vacuum speed up as they fall down?
if there is nothing pulling it down and "density" is why its falling, its velocity should never change and it should move down at a constant rate, but in reality this is not what we see, objects falling will speed up at a rate roughly equal to 9.8 m/s2, how is this possible on a flat earth?

I'd suggest reading the FAQ and wiki first, then the rules (so you know which forum to post in).
