Title: 2013 a Year End Review: Music
Post by: DuckDodgers on December 03, 2013, 06:57:05 PM
As the year draws to a close, I like to look back and see the good, bad, beautiful, and ugly of the year.  I know this sort of thing is cliche and a bit overdone by mainstream media, but I still like to if only to remember some of the really good stuff instead of the typical drivel which tops other charts.

So what did you find most memorable in the music business this year? What was your favorite song, album, or band from 2013? Was there something that just are away at your soul when you heard it?

My favorite album this year was The Afterman: Descension by Coheed and Cambria.  This album, along with the previous one Ascention, really brought back the feel of Coheed from their second and third albums.  Bear's Den would have to be my favorite new band this year (though they actually formed last year I didn't hear them until this year).

I really like the album "II" by Unknown Mortal Orchestra.  They are not a 2013 band, but I only discovered them this year.  The song of the year would have to be... "Royal" I think.  It's been pretty pervasive, and main stream which often means crap, but I think its a great song.  Also, I heard it before it broke (naturally) and loved it then, so... yeah.

I would say Royal is my favorite song of this year, but it is a good one which is starting to get overplayed unfortunately.  I'm not sure if I could really pinpoint my favorite song, but my top five would include My Body by Young the Giant and Burn by Ellie Goulding.

I for one thought 2013 twas a vary good year in music. Im sorry but I am a SUCKER FOR HARLEM SHAKE!!!!!!!!! I think the song is pretty good itself but the videos are hilarous!!!!!!!! ;D There are many songs I loved from this year:

Harlem Shake-bauer
Blured lines-robin thick
Thrift shop-macklemore
We cant stop and wrecking ball-miley cyrus
Ellen degenres remix-lil b
The monster-riana and m and m
Roar-katey pary
Trouble-talor swift
Dunked on-froggy fresh
Diamonds-riana

And one song that I especialey loved was same love by macklemore. It teaches how it doesnt matter who you love despite was some evil homophoic republicans say and that the LGBTQ comunitey deserves its rights #itgetsbetter

This year my music taste as usual has evolved quite a bit. The beginning of the year was more hard rock and alternative with a heavy edge and some thrash metal. Then it was nu metal. Now it's gone to traditional metal and thrash metal. I have also taken an interest to black and death metal.

Lots of things have stood out to me this year, but nothing specific. I now find myself listening to Iron Maiden, Exodus, and Mayhem a lot. I also really like Judas Priest, Anthrax, and Dream Theater. I have sort of dumped the hard rock and alternative, but still listen to some bands like Breaking Benjamin and such.

My taste in music will probably stay within the realm of heavy metal and some rock, but it'll jump through different sub-genres pretty continuously, I would guess.

I'm pretty much the same as before, I like it if I like it, genres don't tend to enter the equation. Some stuff (may have come out previous to 2013 in some cases, but I found it this year):

Sabaton - Carolus Rex

Lucky Suit and Tie - Daft Punk/Justin Timberlake Remix

Big Girl - Yogscast (for da lulz)

Radioactive - Imagine Dragons

Random Access Memories - Daft Punk

Preliator - Globus

Black Man - The Rubberbandits (for the lulz)

Makulah's stuff

I didn't listen to SUN
                            BAT
HER but I did listen to Songs Cycled by Van Dyke Parks and I was just thinking "how the fuck does a 70 year old man sing and play that well?" the whole time. God damn. It has some, uh... moments of questionable taste? but overall it's fantastic.

And I released some of my best music yet this year, so I am happy about that.

I have enjoyed the music you released very much. Good work!
Frozen Bob's Estranged Wife is probably my favorite so far.
