I need the thing I'm missing to install the thing I'm missing.  It's terrible.

Get a flash drive or SD card, install that onto it from a different computer, then copy it onto your system.

Same ominous feeling.

How can you get an installation error when you wouldn't be installing anything?

I don't show up cause it's boring.

It's pretty nice. :P I mean, as long as you have it open and aren't only doing that. That would be boring. And also dumb.
It is. But when I get on my computer I'm usually playing a game so it doesn't really work out.

Saddam, just use mibbit.
You don't think I'm going to post here sober, do you?  ???

I have embraced my Benny Franko side. I'm sleazy.

Saddam, just use mibbit.

My problems with IRC actually began when I somehow became unable to connect using mibbit.  However, after trying it again, it looks like it's working once more.  I seem to have come full circle.

Just a suggestion, but an irc chat thing could be in the header of this forum.

Upside is easy and everyone gets to be part of the discussion as it happens live. This i really like. + its not saved so you can be a bit more out there.

Downside is it is more moderation.

But it may well be fun. If it can be done, why not trial it? Putting everything in one place is simpler and easy for users.

Below is a pretty nice looking chat for SMF.

Anyone else think its worth a trial?

Below is an alternative IRC plugin.

I like this less, but its better than something completely seperate.

Might be a nice try as long as they're made less ugly.

Thork, this is a valid consideration for the future, but I don't want to do it yet. For some context, I am contemplating moving the IRC channel off RelicNET and onto our own IRC network (which would consist of only my VPS to start with). This would have numerous advantages, including the fact that we'd be able to do something when services go down, and the ability to create as many channels as we like to discuss different topics. Oh, and we'd be able to boot troublemakers off the network instead of just banning them from the channel.

I'd rather wait until we have a final decision on which IRC network to use before we go ahead with anything like this, as the more things we have referring to the IRC channel, the more there is to change if we decide to switch.
when you try to mock anyone while also running the flat earth society. Lol

I really don't like having a separate window that you have to open though. Can the IRC be integrated to live on the forum page?

We have a really active society with people on-line all the time. Its a massive strength. If you arrive and see chat messages appearing before your eyes I hope it would make you want to join in.

IRC is a chat window.

But it's a separate chat window!

I don't like it being separate. Its a pain in the hole to get to and whenever I get there, no one says anything.

If I could just see it and chat whenever I saw active chat, I'd use it.

Besides Parsifal said there could be more than one channel. If you must all bitch about people behind their backs, you can do it in a secret channel that I will never visit.

You mean the one everyone will end up using anyway. Nobody wants spectators in IRC.

Besides, the type of conversations that usually goes on is probably not something that should be visible here.

I don't like it being separate. Its a pain in the hole to get to and whenever I get there, no one says anything.
You could just fucking leave it on and set it up to notify you of chat activity or something. Most IRC client has an option like this. And you don't need to close a chat program just because there's currently no activity or if you aren't currently using it. Just leave it on and people will eventually start chatting.
