Flat Earth Theory / Re: Moon size. Calculation and confirmation.

The moon is 2,159.2 miles across.

I see that you've marked some of the Antarctic points of interest, like McMurdo and Casey Station. Where would you mark the Amundsen–Scott South Pole Station on your map?

To get there typically you'd fly from New Zealand, going from Christchurch -> McMurdo Station -> Amundsen-Scott.
https://www.christchurchairport.co.nz/about-us/who-we-are/gateway-to-antarctica/

However, there are also flights that go from Punta Arenas, Chile -> Union Glacier Camp -> Amundsen-Scott.

Prominent and powerful Flat Earthers have typically been motivated by the Bible. For example, this guy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilbur_Glenn_Voliva
Rowbotham was a super Christian and was motivated by proving the Bible true by proving Flat Earth true.

Christianity and Flat Earth theory are pretty much intrinsically connected, athiest Flat Earthers are probably in the minority.

If you're an athiest and if you have any formal education at all, you likely believe in the natural, emergentist structure of reality (ie. quarks < atoms < molecules < proteins < cells < complex life < psychology < sociology < ...) and of the cosmos (moons < planets < stars < solar neighborhoods < galaxies < galaxy clusters < supercluster filaments)

Flat Earth doesn't exactly fit in with the emergentist view of the universe at all.

that was incredible...   electric universe, lol.

It's kind of cool when you realize.. it's exactly the same thing happening on the inside of a neon sign, which is basically electrified gas, except in our case, it's electricity from the sun energizing high altitude oxygen and nitrogen! If the atmosphere were full of neon instead, the aurora would be an epic bright red, if Xenon or Krypton, a cool white/grey.

One of the original "Rocket hits the Dome" YT posters, after some research, posted a follow-up way back when that shows the yoyo de-spin tech employed and the recovered rocket, without and dents, damage or any evidence of smacking into a dome.

Love the use of footage from cameras strapped to weak hobby rockets being proof of a dome, when there is plenty of rocket-cam footage out there showing no such dome-impact. The creator of that video seriously suggests that rocket is the highest and fastest amateur rocket ever launched? That's hilarious.

Virgin Galactic is a glorified high-altitude plane. A marginally less suicidal version of what Mike Hughes died doing.

Technology & Information / China Space Station

China's independent space station is finally up and running, and they are releasing a ton of interesting youtube content to go with it.

How does the conspiracy theory evolve with the fact that, in spite of being blackballed by NASA at every step of participation, has caught up to the space-station building stage of its space program? Who is the Chinese visionary filmmaker who is spearheading this hoax?

Did the people who claim Kubrick doctored the moon landings actually watch 2001 A Space Odyssey?

Watch this moon scene from 2001, this is Kubricks work from a year before the moon landing. It looks LIKE SHIT! compared to the raw footage from the Apollo missions.

How do you possibly expect people to believe that the same people who came up with the above, were somehow also capable of manufacturing hours and hours and hours of footage below?

Steroids giving players an unfair advantage is apparently not ok - but a child being trained from birth full-time by a professional coach because parents are rich - no problem!

If these were fake it would mean that the Japanese space agency is actively faking images in real-time, with perfect knowledge of cloud patterns, at dozens of frequencies, to produce a perfect simulation of what the world currently looks like from above Australia! That would be an incredible feat of technology. Not only that, but all of the data from all of these must be faked in real-time too (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Earth_observation_satellites)
Setting up the same random generator seed in multiple systems would not actually be all that hard. It takes 1-2 lines of code at best. If you consider that an "incredible feat of technology", I have a sneaking suspicion you might be easily impressed, and not particularly tech-literate.

Suppose all satellite imagery and the entire satellite-weather industry is a hoax predicated upon a few lines of code that are procedurally generating clouds from a seed. Furthermore, this procedurally generated cloud-pattern just-so happens to perfectly mirror the weather of real life.

That doesn't explain why the satellites pick up large amounts of smoke from wildfires.

So is the tech-literate take here then?

That wildfires are being set on purpose by Globers to align with the prediction of the Cloud Generator program?

Or that the Cloud Generator program is so perfect that it can even predict and simulate the effects of wildfires?

Or that there is a separate Wildfire Generation program running on top of the Cloud Generator program?

Remember, all of the Clouds and the Smoke would be coming from a single unchanging seed, or else all of the weather satellites would not be capturing identical images, consistent with authentic satellites taking authentic photographs of the Earth. Change the seed by even 1 number and everything is wildly different.

If you are seriously suggesting that procedural simulation programs are predicting and modelling all weather events, you're describing the holy-grail of meteorology - however this is unlikely because Chaos Theory posits that even near-future weather prediction is impossible. lavoisier.com.au/articles/climate-policy/science-and-policy/chaos-theory-and-weather-prediction.pdf "MIT professor Dr. Edward Lorenz, and has essential implications for climate modelling. In the 2007 interview, Dr. Lorenz confirms that chaos theory proves that weather and climate cannot be predicted beyond the very short term [about 3 weeks], and that even with today's state-of-the-art observing systems and models, weather [or climate] still cannot be predicted even 2 weeks in advance."

Quote from: xasop
It is possible that the authors of Samuel and Chronicles simply have different versions of events.

Your explanations all involve the writers being wrong about what they said in the Bible. My explanation is what the Bible is saying, which is quite different.

Theologians accept the axiom that the writers of the Bible wrote it through the hand of God. A writer of the Bible believing that Satan is the God or the 'Lord' in some parts of the Bible is fairly significant to Biblical scholars.

Bill Donohue also thinks that the Bible is saying that God is Satan:

856 Is God of Old Testament Satan Part 2.

Bill Donohue is the president of the Catholic League and sits on the board of the National Association of Scholars:

Quote
William A. Donohue began his teaching career in the 1970s working at St. Lucy’s School in Spanish Harlem.  In 1977, he took a position as a college professor teaching at La Roche College in Pittsburgh.  In 1980, Bill was awarded his Ph.D. in sociology from New York University.

~

Bill is currently the President and CEO of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, the nation’s largest Catholic civil rights organization.  The publisher of the Catholic League journal, Catalyst, Bill is also an adjunct scholar at The Heritage Foundation and serves on the board of directors of the National Association of Scholars and the New York State chapter of NAS.

The Catholic League is an organization treated favorably with endorsement from the Catholic Church:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_League_(U.S.)#Association_with_the_Catholic_Church

Quote
Association with the Catholic Church

The Catholic League is a lay Catholic organization that is independent of the Catholic Church. However, it is listed in The Official Catholic Directory (see the Miscellaneous section under the Archdiocese of New York). According to a New York Times interviewer, the organization "maintains close ties to the New York Archdiocese leadership. Several bishops make personal donations. Cardinal O'Connor spoke at the group's 25th anniversary reception in 1998 and vacated part of his suite for its expanding operations, said Joseph Zwilling, a spokesman for the Archdiocese of New York."[1] The League includes on its website endorsements from many prominent clerics.

So scholars do believe or follow this line of thought.

Maybe that's why the Catholic Church seems to use a lot of questionable symbolism in its designs -

https://newagora.ca/inside-popes-reptilian-audience-hall-vatican-city/

The Pope's Audience Hall looks like a snake's head:

The Pope speaks from the mouth of a Snake:

At center stage behind the Pope is a statue of Christ arising from the ashes of apocalypse. Christ's head looks suspiciously like a snake:

That is the most convincing argument I ever saw proving that the Catholic Church is actually an army of demons, and that the pope is Satan. That would explain the atrocities committed by the Catholic Church throughout history.

I mean, think about it. An organization that is responsible for the following:

- Pope Pius XII Denying Eyewitness Reports Of Mass Execution During The Holocaust
- Systemically Covering Up Tens Of Thousands Of Cases Involving Sexual Misconduct
- Terrorizing Jews And Muslims For 300 Years
- Pope Boniface VIII who raped women and children and destroyed an entire city for no reason.
- Executed Joan Of Arc For Dressing Like A Man
- Executed William Tyndale For Making a Bible For The Masses
- Absolving Sins For Cash Payments, Including Sins Not Yet Committed
- Orchestrated The Fall Of The Knights Templar
- The Joust Of Whores Organized By Pope Alexander VI
- Imprisoning Galileo In His Home For Years Because He Suggested Science Was Greater Than God
- Literally dozens of massacres with death tolls in the thousands
- Actively directed the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Indigenous populations in Canada and Australia
- Actively covered up the systematic raping of 100,000 total victims of clerical sexual abuse.

And this is just a short list of atrocities and crimes against humanity that can be attributed to the Catholic Church. It doesn't exactly sound like what a house of God would go about doing - but it does make a lot of sense if the Catholic Church is actually an army of child-raping genocidal snake demons.

The funny thing is, we have telescopes and cameras pointed at Earth! Many dozens of them. Some do sweeping orbital scans of the planet, some are far enough away and in geostationary orbit that it can snap the whole planet in single frame. Himawari 9 provides such photos over the earth over Australia and Japan. From over 22,000 miles away it produces an incredible full disc image of the Earth every 10 minutes. The best part of seeing the earth from a geostationary position over an entire 24 period is that you can see the reflection of the sun on the ocean, it's spectacular. Really hammers home the sense that we're all just out here riding a wet blue bowling ball through space.

For supporting evidence that the images are not fake, here is the same photo taken at the same time from an older satellite. If these were fake it would mean that the Japanese space agency is actively faking images in real-time, with perfect knowledge of cloud patterns, at dozens of frequencies, to produce a perfect simulation of what the world currently looks like from above Australia! Arguably the oldest relevant literature pertaining to the Bible will be found on the cuneiform tablet originals of the Epic of Gilgamesh (2100 BC), predates the Hebrew Bible by a few hundred-a thousand years. Since the stories were poems, intended to be sung to music, the history of the Bible and all translations of the relevant stories, originates here.

The Epic of Gilgamesh predates many of the narratives present in the Bible, making the Hebrew Bible a sort of mega anthology of cultural stories present at that time and place. Noah's Ark and the flood story, the garden of eden and loss of innocence caused by a snake story, beings created by gods from ribs, all originated from ancient Sumerian poetry.

Kind of crazy if you think about how Noah's Ark is likely a story that has survived in social and cultural circulation for over 5000 years.

Who iss Lying? - Astronauts: Stars In Space - Contradictions!
Are the crew members of 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger still alive?

To suggest that the seven who died in the Challenger disaster faked their deaths for no reason, traumatizing their families and loved ones as they all watched them die in real time, for ..... no reason - is the most disrespectful thing I ever heard.

The notion that ISS astronauts are hanging from ropes is the worst conspiracy theory I've ever heard.

Proof positive that there are no strings creating the illusion of zero gravity. If they were truly strung up by strings in an otherwise 1G environment they would look like ridiculous puppets or like Peter Pan stage acts.

Is there any sense to this thread at all? Or are we just spectating some poor guy's schizophrenic delusions just because they are funny?
Surprised this thread doesn't get locked by Pete considering how it doesn't stand up to an iota of the rigorousness demanded by the moderators.

I still maintain that the earth is flat and looks like other galaxies.   Galaxies look flat, so I can sort of use the same logic as Planeteers.

The earth looks like galaxies? It might help you to know what galaxies actually look like - here's an ultra high resolution photo of Andromeda our nearest neighbor.

https://esahubble.org/images/heic1502a/zoomable/

Last time I checked the Earth wasn't made up of millions of stars and it definitely isn't 220,000 light-years wide.

What's more, not all galaxies are as neat and uniform-looking as others. Some are visibly in the middle of colliding with one another.

Check out this awesome tool. I think you'll like it. https://timhutton.github.io/GravityIsNotAForce/index.html

It visualizes why objects fall - objects move in straight-line paths that are determined by the geometry of spacetime. All mass warps the curvature of spacetime around it, creating what we understand as gravity. But gravity is not a force!!

It is very intuitive when you use the sliding scale to view an object from outside of the inertial frame of reference (0 m/s) and you can see how all objects at rest (free-falling) take straight-line paths through spacetime.

I have read through David Eso's dissertation and, sorry to pop your bubble but at no point is it about actual Flat Earth belief. Not exactly 'a mix of the two', that's fundamentally misinterpreting the thesis, and would be obvious from reading the introduction. The dissertation traces the work of authors who engaged in what he calls 'Serious Play' around the idea of Flat Earth. The quote below explains what he means by 'Serious Play' quite elegantly.

Eso makes a point to draw a line between these 'poets' of Flat Earth and “Flat Earthism” which refers instead to a rigid belief system based on religious fundamentalism and conspiracy theories. What Eso describes in his dissertation is how Serious Play in the context of Flat Earth theorizing and posturing functions as something akin to literary performance art - that could open doors for criticism and exploration of more disparate and hard-to-philosophize-about concepts like scientific consensus in and of itself.

"My title announces grounding in contradiction, signals that Serious Play has to some degree internalized the non-doctrine called Planoterrestrialism. I use the term not to indicate literal belief in a Flat Earth but, instead, to point to a flexible and participatory non-ideology that uses the idea of a Flat Earth as a fertile metaphor, open on the far side. More ludic than dogmatic in outlook, figurative Planoterrestrialism might include skepticism about Earth’s oblate-sphericity but, more interestingly, raises indefinite questions about objectivity and consensus. The term further enfolds responses to our planet as an otherworldly place, hence its up-take by a subset of poets. Surface layers of the satire continually give way to reveal hidden recesses formed more like poems than jokes.

When deployed by someone like Ferrari, who maintains an earnest pose while performing absurdly, the term Planoterrestrialism operates as self-reflexive puffery. It pretends to elevate a lowly worldview to the status of systemized belief: a science, religion, philosophy, or ideology. But the posturing honorific is laughable. It makes mockery of pretension, occult theories, and isms writ large. The term attracts me as cipher rather than theory. Planoterrestrialism is more tactical than methodological. It symbolizes the Society’s enigmatic tangle of spoofing and sincerity."

The USA and the Soviet Union were testing nukes in space between 1958 and 1962. The tests showed that they caused immense electromagnetic pulses capable of destroying electrical infrastructure on the ground. The Soviet space-nuke tests caused significant friendly-fire (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_Project_K_nuclear_tests) - it destroyed 570km of telephone lines and over 1000km of underground electrical cable. The below footage, of the American Operation Dominic aka Starfish Prime (1962) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starfish_Prime) had the unforeseen side-effect of creating an artificial radiation belt that destroyed or damaged any satellite passing through it -  It also destroyed electrical infrastructure as far away as Hawaii.

Both the USA and the Soviet Union obviously covered up the fact that they destroyed massive amounts of their own infrastructure on accident.

All these incidents lead to the Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty in 1963.
