Flat Earth Theory / Re: Shape of the lit area on the FE map vs EA
« on: December 13, 2021, 03:29:45 PM »
How many phenomenon now are hand-waved away with the explanation of 'light gets curved'?

1. Sailboats descend below the horizon to an observer at sea level because light curves the image of the boat downwards, producing the illusion of a curved plane.
2. Light from the sun is curved into a bean shape as it casts down over the Earths surface, producing the illusion of a sphere illuminated by a distant light source.
3. Light from the stars in the dome are excluded from this principle, producing the illusion of distant stars, galaxies and gas clouds.

I suggest Flat Earth theory try to get this straight. Light refraction is a solvable physics problem.

If you don't have the physics skill, knowledge and understanding to perform the calculations for light refracting through a simple prism yet you feel confident enough to claim that Flat Earth phenomenon is explained by light refraction, you need to take a big step back and spend some time in deep introspection because that is called the Dunning-Kruger effect.

What's with the fascination with Rowbotham anyways? Let's say he is as qualified a scientist as one could be in the 1870s. Let's all be real, the bar for empiricism in the 1800s was not high. With the bar for empiricism so low, I would bet a majority of scientists and physicians would be considered quacks by today's standards.

Regardless, he is just one man out of millions of physicists, astronomers, geologists, meteorologists, engineers, that have been born, worked long careers, and died since that time. It is quite literally Rowbotham vs. The World when it comes to Flat Earth belief. If the best Flat Earth can do is quack doctor who died 137 years ago, you should be able to see why his contribution is very much unconvincing.

Flat Earth Investigations / Re: Azimuth angles?
« on: December 11, 2021, 05:13:47 PM »
Sorry to confuse anyone.
I thought this would be obvious, but it isn't. 🤔
I believe the earth is flat and stationary.
We observe that the sun rises and sets at the same angle,( as shown in the chart above,) BUT we are told that we sit on a ball tilted at 23.4° ( sorry for being 1° out 🙄).  So azimuth angles charts prove that the globe model is a lie and therefore the whole solar system is a lie as well.
As for what I mean by equal angles can be seen from the chart above, at the equinox (green line) the sun rises 90° from North and sets at 90° before north, that an equal angle, this as I said before is impossible if the earth is a tilted ball, therefore it's not.

Thanks for making it obvious that you don't actually have any idea what the equinox actually is. Which makes the confident tone you write with all the more amusing.

The earth is tilted, and it orbits the Sun. Which means that there will be two moments in each revolution where the tilt is most aligned with the equator (equinoxes) and least aligned with the equator (solstices). Your claim that the 90 degree angles at the equinoxes are impossible makes no sense, when the 90 degree alignment is what defines the equinoxes in the first place - without that alignment there is no equinox.

If there were no tilt, the sun would set and rise in the same place at the same time all the time. There would be no equinox, no solstice, no seasons.

The notion that Rowbotham is the father of soda is a bold faced lie. Thomas Henry, an apothecary from Manchester, was the first to sell artificial mineral water to the general public for medicinal purposes, beginning in the 1770s. The history of the origin of soft drinks predates Rowbotham's birth by 40 years. He may have certainly contributed to the industry but so was basically everyone who called themselves a pharmacist or apothecary at that time.

Hi Duncan,

Planes from LA to Europe take Great Circle Paths on FE because they are following the path of Jet Streams that circle the world.  Jet Streams are incredibly powerful streams of wind that run West to East and help carry a plane to their destination - sometimes doubling their speed.  Flying in cold weather also helps with Fuel Efficiency.  So, when Pan AM starts to make their return trip from London, they are now flying across and against jet streams and in warmer weather conditions which may explain the added fuel stops.

Flying from East to West planes also take "Great Circle" paths because they try to avoid going against jet streams and pick the colder side which is smoother and more fuel efficient.

Traditionally, "Great Circle" paths are thought of as the shortest distance from point A to B a plane can fly on a spherical earth and would look like a straight line.

Here's an image of Jet Streams on a spherical earth and a flat earth.

It takes 7 hours to fly direct from NYC to London, and 8.5 hours coming back. The polar jet streams account for a 20% speed difference over the identical route, not exactly 100% as you claim. Plus, you can freely access global wind data: https://earth.nullschool.net/ and while the jet stream is quite strong over the Atlantic ocean and around Antarctica, it's hardly present anywhere else.

There's a good thread about this subject here https://forum.tfes.org/index.php?topic=18607.0

I assume the 4 months are around Oct, Nov Dec, Jan?  That would tilt the Earth away from the sun and center it more over Antarctica which allows it to be seen all day.

I mean, yes, that is the correct answer to why the North and South poles experience midnight sun. During the summer the Northern hemisphere is tilted towards the Sun, in the winter the Earth is tilted away producing summer in the Southern hemisphere. Which is precisely what produces what we experience as seasons, 'summer' and 'winter' respectively. It's also why Winter in both South Africa and Australia is from June to August.

The obvious conclusion is that the Earth is a sphere with a 23.4 degree tilt, rotating once every 24 hours, making one orbit around the Sun every 365 days.

Stack, navigation isn't difficult if you just follow "north" on your compass and take into account different land masses on a FE Map (particularly the far north).  We went into more detail about this here:  https://forum.tfes.org/index.php?topic=18499.msg245481#msg245481

I also made an image explaining where the north and south poles are on a Flat Earth.  I think a Flat Earth like ours resembles an Axial Magnetic Disc with both Poles located above and below the center.

Misterkami - There is an ice wall or sorts around the perimeter of this map...  It begins as the Sea Ice and Glaciers you see the farther north you go.

How would you explain, say, 24 hour sun hours that is observed on Antarctica on your Axial Magnetic Disc map? Such a scene from the video below would be impossible no matter which way you try to spin it.

Without being limited to planes, humanity flies over the south pole every day. Check out this space map of satellite orbits. https://maps.esri.com/rc/sat2/index.html

You can identify dozens of satellites that pass over Antarctica every day.

According to data online, Taurus R/B is a https://www.celestis.com/ launch containing the cremated remains of 29 people. Morbid! I also found some details about the flight, and it's dead passengers: https://www.celestis.com/launch-schedule/ad-astra-flight/

Here's another one - https://www.n2yo.com/satellite/?s=34361 It's satellite debris from Iridium 33, caused by this event: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iridium_33#Destruction and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_satellite_collision

This is a better documented sample of flat earth believers, in Brazil.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1131128/flat-earth-brazil/

of 2,086 respondents, 7% held flat earth belief. 3% said they didn't know. Extrapolated to the whole country that's still 11 million flat earthers. According to Brazilian articles it's because of strict religious fundamentalism.

The whole reason they believe that the Earth is flat is because the bible says:
1 Chronicles 16:30: “He has fixed the earth firm, immovable.”
Psalm 93:1: “Thou hast fixed the earth immovable and firm ...”
Psalm 96:10: “He has fixed the earth firm, immovable ...”
Psalm 104:5: “Thou didst fix the earth on its foundation so that it never can be shaken.”
Isaiah 45:18: “...who made the earth and fashioned it, and himself fixed it fast...”

The belief that gravity is caused by a universal upwards acceleration at 1g or 5.8m/s would probably be rejected by religion-based flat earthers.

Here is some ample evidence against the claim that nobody has been to Antarctica, and should be easily disproven if a flat earther could find the 'real' Mount Vinson (highest peak in Antarctica). Too many people on social media have climbed this mountain recently enough for it to be fake. How do you fake a whole mountain? The footage (and there are dozens and dozens more videos I haven't linked) clearly show how transit to central Antarctica is achieved.

What I don't get is that given all the fascinating and ground breaking investigations that science in general and modern astronomy is now working on, there are people in this world who would rather spend their time role playing as if they are people who lived generations ago by arguing about what shape the Earth is. Something that we actually worked out a long, long time ago.  Time to move on!

It's people who think they are much more clever than career scientists and academics, ironically despite knowing less than a learning impaired child.

Plus, believing that the world is flat gives you the chance to feel persecuted for your beliefs every time someone calls you an idiot. A victim-complex can paradoxically feel empowering, fringe conspiracy beliefs are perfectly situated to exploit this funny part of our psychology.

I think it's imperative that we begin space resource extraction as quickly as possible. Natural resources on Earth will become depleted, and the ecosystem destroyed unless we find another way.

We should establish O'Neill Cylinder colonies adjacent to 16-Psyche to manage mining and manufacturing operations. Another Cylinder colony adjacent to Titan basically serving as the solar system's gas station.

Well, he wanted to be in the control group for the grand vaccine 'experiment', I hope he's content with the results.

If Flat Earthers don't even believe in the loooooong history of rocket launches to space, and think the whole thing is a hoax, then why would Inspiration4 mission change their mind? People could be living on Mars and there would still be Flat Earthers who claim Mars is not real and that space is fake.

Inspiration4 is just another blip on this graph that is denied wholesale by Flat Earthers.

There is no more proof that humans flew on this SpaceX flight than there is any evidence supporting the concept of humans travelling via airplane.

Seems like this is a good thing to me. The problem with 9/11 was that the US couldn't just bomb Afganistan infrastructure because the terrorists who did it weren't actually running the country. Now that they are, they can deal with the terrorists on a national war-like level.

This is the worst take I have ever heard and it could only have come from a flat earther. I suppose anti-intellectualism thinks alike.

If an authority is giving you instructions to do something, you are being pressured to do it.

Do you wear a seatbelt, because the government is pressuring you into doing it, or do you wear a seatbelt because it might save your life?

Considering the pandemic is now almost exclusively ripping through the unvaccinated crowd, we're literally watching Darwinism happen in real time. People who are so low-IQ that they continue to be anti-vaxx or even vaxx-skeptical to this day are being systematically pruned from the gene pool.

If natural disasters are acts of god, then mRNA biotechnology innovations being invented in the short time before COVID hit is nothing short of divine intervention as far as I am concerned. It allowed for a vaccine to be developed in record time and measurably prevented a war's worth of death and suffering. For anti-vaxxers, anti-maskers, and COVID deniers to get sick from a disease they have constantly underplayed, despite 4.2 million global deaths, and rejecting what could very well have been an olive branch from God himself - dying of COVID and then being mocked for your tweets seems like a fitting hell.

Doesn't the Bible explicitly warn Christians of false prophets, in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves? How else do you explain fervent and vocal anti-vaxx activists whose rhetoric is leading people on a straight shot path to illness, disability, death and suffering??

If you've ever eaten fast food, it's hypocritical to be anti-vax, since that burger patty contains just as much animal vaccine, growth hormone, and antibiotic substances than you could ever fit in half a milliliter of vaccine.
