Honey & Lemon
« on: December 22, 2013, 06:25:19 AM »
Greetings: Just a curious question. Has anyone else here tried honey & lemon tea as a relaxing hot beverage before bed? It also helps sooth a sore throat or cough. It can be used w/ chamomile if preferred. Personally I prefer just hot water, honey & lemon (or lime) juice. Any thoughts?

I often add ginger to a honey and lemon tea.

I usually sweeten my tea with honey, and often add lemon to it. It certainly does help get rid of a sore throat, or other symptoms of a not-too-serious cold.

I just add honey, never tried adding lemon to other teas but I do have a lemon tea.

There's also a medicine called Theraflu which is basically a lemon tea.

Theraflu is my drug of choice. It makes you feel like a new person in about 1/2 hour.

I use plain sugar instead of honey.

Honey has anti-bacterial properties that sugar does not.

As well as a lower glycemic index and better flavor.

It's also tastier, and you can introduce variety by alternating between several kinds of honey.

I would use honey more if finding the real thing was easier. I can only speak from a US perspective, but finding the real deal is nigh impossible because the FDA has no federal definition of honey. Anything that says "real honey" could be corn syrup with some honey flavor added. Every now and again I manage to find a bee keeper that jars the good stuff up.

If it doesn't have bee guts floating in it, it isn't honey.

Have you tried looking for those edgy grocery stores like Whole Foods? They tend to stock a lot of local product.

Rushy lives in the middle of the desert.  He can't get a fresh apple, much less fresh honey.

I do festivals sometimes as part of an environmental group in my school that I'm part of (read: in charge of). There are a couple of beekeepers that go to them as well. My house is always stocked with delicious honey.

I recommend finding all of the state parks in your area and seeing when they do festivals or whatever.
That's how far the horizon is, not how far you can see.

Except nuts. Apparently they grow a shitload of tree nuts here, I don't know why. Huge pecan/walnut orchards.

Yes, I take honey and lemon in hot water every morning empty stomach. I lost about 3 pounds in 6 weeks. It helps in improving your metabolism and keeps your digestive system active.  :)
