Universal Basic Income is a fantastic idea. I don't think anyone can state for sure what will happen, but it has so much enormous potential. I can't wait for someone to give it a fair test so that we at least have a case study for considering it further.

Should the entirety of the United States jump into at once? No, we can probably just use that money towards something with a more certain return on investment, like infrastructure or national healthcare or schools or some shit.

Quote from: Wikipedia
A nationwide, three-year pilot scheme was launched in Finland on 1 January 2017. In total, 2,000 participants, who were randomly selected among those receiving unemployment benefits aged 25–58, are now entitled to an unconditional income of €560 per month, regardless of whether they have a paid job or not.[37] The experiment is supposed to test whether the implementation of basic universal income could help reduce issues caused by automation, long-term unemployment and lower wages. Especially people who are entrepreneurially minded, but at the same time afraid of not having financial security when starting their own businesses should be encouraged to engage in economic activity.[38] In addition, launching the program of basic income nationwide could decrease bureaucratic costs associated with the Finnish current welfare system, which is both very complex and expensive to run.[39] The experiment ended at the end of 2018 as planned, and the government of Finland has decided not to continue the experiment while the results of the study are analyzed. [40] The results of the study will come in 2020, since register data lag one year behind.

We will find out soon.

$1000 every month to every person in the US is larger than the entire federal budget, so it actually is quite a lot of money. The idea is that the economic benefits of having more consumers combined with the savings of removing the entire current welfare system would eventually make the project worth it.

$1,000/person in the US is only $326B ignoring that minors likely won't get the money.  The Federal Budget this year is 4.4 trillion.  It isn't even 10% of the budget.  I know you don't suck at math, whats up?

Anyway, I meant $1,000/month isn't going to change a lot of lives on an individual scale.  It will certainly help alleviate under-employment, but that is the only major change I foresee.  That and ten times the illegal immigrants.

$1000 * 12 * 325,700,000 = $3,908,400,000,000

The US federal budget is ~$3,800,000,000,000 annually.

Seriously, Rama? You thought $12,000 a year to 325.7 million people was only 326 billion dollars? Then you accuse me of sucking at math? Whats up? Use your head, dude.

$12,000 a year would change a lot of people's lives enormously. The median American income is $59,000. That means the median American gets a 20% increase in their yearly income. That would change our entire economy.

Chil baby, I said you didn't suck at math, I actually said the opposite.  I sucked at remembering to do dimensional analysis apparently.

If Yang can tax that $1000/month at 100% I think we have a winner of a manifesto.

Yes, it's getting great press in many places now. It would save Britain from the retarded mess Iain Duncan Smith got it into.

Benefits systems are not only a HUGE waist of money but of EVERYBODY'S TIME.
