On the notion of recent bans and the editing of posts.
« on: January 04, 2016, 07:44:12 AM »
Hello, friends.

It seems there have been bans today, solely for suspicion of being an alt (of lolwut, whose ban has never really been justified, publicly) and an excessive amount of editing users' posts in the lower fora, leaving the original content to the imagination. It seemed the alleged alts of lolwut did not spam or break the rules excessively.

I guess my point is, are we just going to ban folks we don't like and l'hilariously edit their posts for no reason?

Wait, there are rules now?
Dr. Frank is a physicist. He says it's impossible. So it's impossible.
My friends, please remember Tom said this the next time you fall into the trap of engaging him, and thank you. :)

They are very unclear rules, but they are here.

Lolwut was banned for spamming and his alts were banned for continuing that behavior in addition to being used to circumvent the ban. We've warned him repeatedly for months. The warnings have now escalated to bans.

But the alts really weren't behaving all that outrageos, and are you even sure that they were lolwut's alts? Also as far as I am aware there isn't even a rule for spamming in CN. Perhaps an amendment to the rules is in order?

And on another note, why are you editing posts for no reason in CN?

But the alts really weren't behaving all that outrageos

Billybob9 began spamming S&C, so his posts were removed and he was banned. I went ahead and banned Decimus as an already known Lolwut alt since now we can make the assumption that allowing Lolwut's alts to continue posting is a mistake.

and are you even sure that they were lolwut's alts?

Yes.

Also as far as I am aware there isn't even a rule for spamming in CN.

Alt spamming (and spamming in general) has never been tolerated. We don't allow spambots to exist on the forum, following that policy it doesn't make sense to allow a real person to spam, either. Complete Nonsense is not a no-rules forum, it is a forum where the rules are 'more lax' than others. For example, posting pornography will get you warned/banned, regardless of which forum you post it on.

We warned Lolwut multiple times to stop spamming. This isn't a sudden and unexpected ban on his part.

Perhaps an amendment to the rules is in order?

Probably, but administrators would make that decision. They can also overturn the ban if they feel I've done something wrong.

And on another note, why are you editing posts for no reason in CN?

I like to abuse mod powers and chew bubblegum, and I'm all outta bubblegum.

I can't keep up with ignoring all his alts. It is very labour intensive. I don't want to read his stupid huge font posts. So I 'ignored' him. He is circumventing the 'ignores' of other users too. It is all very anti-social and I concur he deserves a little holiday as I deserve a little holiday from him. >:(

I thought mods were suppose to enforce actual rules, not just ban people willy-nilly?  Perhaps I am wrong, though.

You're not wrong. The rules have been enforced and punishment delivered in a manner consistent with previous strategies.

Just to be clear, you are all terrific, but everything you say is exactly what a moron would say.

Ban him and all his "alt" children.

I edited your post so that you're not breaking the first two rules of the forum.  This way you learn a valuable lesson, don't have to serve a ban, and everyone goes home happy.

You are most kind, but happy doesn't come close, try delirious.

This isn't spam. It seems like a legitimate concern to me.

We repeatedly made it clear to Lolwut that spamming other people's threads is unacceptable, even in CN.

Well in that instance you'd be posting on-topic, not spamming.
