Invitation to be Panelist at Alternative Science Forum
« on: July 25, 2021, 09:56:14 PM »
Hi all!

My name is Kevin. I'm a new member, and I don't think I fit the average profile of most forum members. I attend a boarding school in New Hampshire called Phillips Exeter Academy.

As you would expect, this means most of our students are not at all exposed to the "alternative" sciences often discussed on this forum. We're looking to change that! Let me preface this by saying that I personally am not strictly a Flat Earther. However, I think I'm still in the minority when I'm very willing to discuss and "logic out" topics like these instead of placing blind (and as some would argue, undeserved faith) in the words of mass-printed textbooks. Nine times out of ten, putting people's intelligence together and hashing things out will lend a lot more truth to a matter than what one specialist wrote.

As such, completely unaffiliated with Phillips Exeter or any other institution, a few students and I are seeking three qualified flat-earth theorists to be panelists at the first Annual National High School Symposium on the Alternative Sciences. This will be a one to two hour online science panel hosted two weekends from now where we invite you to make the case in favor of the flat-earth model, and then open up to a polite and mannered question and answer analysis session of sorts.

The requirements are for panelists are as follows:
  • Well-versed in the core principles of the Flat Earth model and able to present (with or without visual aids, though encouraged) them coherently and concisely.
  • Able to engage in thoughtful discourse and exchanges of positions. Able to synthesize rational explanations to questions brought up during the discussion portion.
  • And we can't allow profanity or vulgar behavior of any sorts as this panel will have an audience of children.

If being a panelist at the Symposium holds interest to you, please let me know, and if you have any lingering questions, I'd be happy to answer them! Thanks again!

Hi Kevin.

First, let me congratulate you on all your parent's money.

Why would a flat earther do this? You've very very little chance of making this happen. Even if you could get one flat earther ... but you want 3!

Flat earthers tend to be quite reclusive anyway. They aren't big on revealing themselves as this can lead to limited employment opportunities and social issues in their personal lives.

We also don't go ramming our theories down other people's throats. We let the curious come to us.

I'm sorry, its a nice idea, but I can't see you getting 3 flat earthers for a panel. You can keep trying to reason with people here, beg, bribe and argue ... but you'll just be wasting your time as your deadline looms closer. I'd suggest you come up with something else. I can't think of 3 flat earthers on this site that would be willing to do this. Sorry. I hope this reply saves you some time and allows you to come up with a new plan.

Hi Toddler Thork,

Thank you so much for putting the time in to reply!! Yes haha, that image was added for a bit of theatrics ;D! I'm actually attending the school on financial aid, but I really do appreciate the well wishes!

And I absolutely understand your concerns, especially about the letting the curious come to you, because that's exactly what we're hoping to do! It's a very private affair, just a few people in a Zoom call to chat it over, but I 100% understand if you're not personally invested in the idea. No need to be sorry, we understand!

I don't intend to beg or bribe anyone (that would be something to see haha) but for anyone else out there, the invitation is very much open because we're really excited to get in touch with the community!

Again, thanks Toddler Thork for the questions, really truly appreciated, and have a nice day!

Unless it was text/im only, I also wouldn't feel comfortable - though I hope there are some here that would!

In any case, what is "alternative science" (with some examples)? There are ways other than scientific to make discoveries and advance human knowledge and ability - but "alternative science" seems to imply there is some sort of "other" science one might choose if one were so inclined.

In my view, science does have alternatives - however those alternatives are not science.
