I picked a place to stay in San Jose. It’s a really nice area, but rent will be $2300 a month while I’m there. What in the fuck? That’s more than a mortgage payment in most places.

Yep.
City living is expensive as shit.
But live outside the city?  It drops alot.
The conviction will get overturned on appeal.

I think I just like stacking certs and working at my comfy Socialist government job. But for real, I had a 2nd interview today with a managed security service provider and I think I'll take it.

Yep, I'm doing the Security + exam, probably late December, Early January. Not for anything specific now, just for down the road.

I want to do Pentest + because it looks like fun. The performance based questions are like little CTF challenges.

OK, just passed Security +.  It was no fucking fun at all. Holy crap, it sucked.
But it's a good general cert that can help in a few IT roles. maybe extra money...

I was going to do Pentest + because it's software I already know and something I like doing but everybody wants to be a hacker. Pentesting is super niche with limited jobs and lots of applicants. Even if I want to compete for a pen testing job, the Comptia cert looks really puny next to others like the CEH that cost thousands of dollars.

I need to sharpen up skills that are more widely marketable. I was thinking about some Microsoft certs so I spun up a 2019 Server to work with Active Directory management.

I created a user. His name is Tim, he's a transvestite. He is in a group that has permissions to access the network printer.

For what it's worth: I'm currently a pentester, and I completely agree that CompTIA certs are pretty worthless in this area. Even the very cheap Burp Suite Certified Practitioner is going to command more respect.

Can confirm. Even if you know the material, CompTIA test question wordings are notoriously horrible. Although, it's a required cert if you want to get a gubmint security job in the US.

I've been using the community version of Burp for a while and didn't know this was a thing. I use Owasp ZAP for anything with real brute force because the freebie Burp is so severely throttled.

I may go for this. I already have a good head start on the software so it should go easy and I can always learn some new tricks. $99 dollars to get a certificate suitable for framing and add 1/32 of an inch to the size of my IT dick is a pretty good deal.

They sent me a 32 inch monitor even though it’s an on-site job. Maybe it’s so I can look up microchips and whatnot at home.

This job is chill as hell. It’s kinda similar to the other one, but they have resources and troubleshooting guides embedded in each ticket that comes in, suggested fixes etc.. The best part is I don’t have to answer any phones.
