My opinion on this matter is the same opinion I have on the ongoing NSA-Snowden leaks. If you don't want it leaked on the internet, DON'T DO IT.

If my plan for creating a html page where we could send a text message to all five council members was more widely supported, Tsunami could have sent out a call to vote, and we would have all voted on this by now.

However, Tsunami had to resort to email messaging, and this is what happened.

He named his daughter after a video game character, which she resented for a long time.

Source? Because from what I've read it seems like she's ok with her name. She has even done many things with Nintendo promoting their various games, including tournaments and commercials. She was even a special guest host of the London Zelda Symphony Concert on October 25, 2011. I don't think she resented her name at all.

Maybe now she's okay with it (perhaps since she's profiting from it), but while growing up she was bullied in school over it enough to make plans to change her name.

Robin Williams cheated on her mom and she grew up with him popping in and out of her life. Do you think her mom raised her to think highly of her dad?

Zelda recently said this on Instagram

“In this difficult time, please try to be respectful of the accounts of myself, my family and my friends. Mining our accounts for photos of dad, or judging me on the number of them is cruel and unnecessary. There are a couple throughout, but the real private moments I shared with him were precious, quiet, and believe it or not, not full of photos or ‘selfies”, Zelda said on her Instagram account.

She had "precious, quiet moments" with her dad. It doesn't sound like they had all that great of a relationship or was around a lot.

I was thinking about it and I've come to the decision that Robin Williams wasn't a clinically depressed clown with mental issues, as he is being portrayed in the press.

According to the nydailynews link on the previous page he had serious financial issues, which I take to mean that he owed a lot of money to wives/bank. He had recently stated that he had to put his home up for sale. They were coming after his assets and his only way out was to continue with his film making. When he tried doing his own original sitcom it was canceled after a short time by ABC. The big studios were only willing to pay him a paycheck if he played in the roles they wanted him in and returned to sequels promote their properties - ie. Night at the Museum 3 and Mrs. Doubtfire 2. The only problem is that Robin was a person who had great passion for his work and always said publicly that would only do a sequel if he felt it would be as good as or better than the original. In a recent late night interview when the host mentioned the Mrs. Doubtfire sequel the crowed cheered wildly and Robin Williams just gave a grim disappointed look and said it wasn't something he was looking forward to.

At the age of 63 he couldn't simply switch careers from something he had done all his life. He would have to compromise his artistic integrity to keep his head above water.

Having been married several times, with all the cheating and lawsuits, he was clearly having companionship issues.  According to that same link he spent very little time with his children as they grew up, always away doing his acting, probably more a figure coming in and out of their lives than a father. He named his daughter after a video game character, which she resented for a long time.

Robin William's finances were in shambles, his assets were being seized, his love life was non-existant, his relationship with his kids was negligible, his career was heading off a cliff, and he was being forced  to make unwanted sequels and dress up as a woman for the entertainment of others. Unloved and at a dead end in life, I think that would be the end of the line for a lot of people.

Today is a sad day. Apparently Robin Williams had been undergoing depression and has committed suicide this morning via asphyxiation. It is unclear how or why.

Incorrect.

asphyxiation

depression

Today we found out how he asphyxiated himself and why he was depressed.

Robin Williams decided that he would rather hang himself with a belt than make Mrs. Doubtfire 2.

Ah, so it was Night at the Museum III that pushed him off the edge.

Quote
The comedian, after two pricey divorces, was upset that he needed work to insure his family’s future financial security, a family friend told RadarOnline.

“All he could talk about were serious money troubles,” the friend told the website about a recent chat with Williams. “There were clearly other issues going on and Robin sounded distant during the telephone conversation.”

The troubled Williams was even rattled by the impending resurrection of one of his most famous film creations, “Mrs. Doubtfire,” the friend told RadarOnline.

“There was also frustration that Robin expressed at having to take television and movie roles he didn’t want to take, but had to for the paycheck,” the family friend said.

“Doing sequels was never Robin’s thing, and he wasn’t that excited at having to reprise the role of Mrs. Doubtfire.”The movie was scheduled to begin shooting late this year.

Williams’ sitcom “The Crazy Ones” was canceled by CBS this year after just one season, and he returned this summer to a 12-step program for treatment of his well-chronicled drug and alcohol problems.

In an interview last year, Williams typically made a joke when asked if he lost all his money in his two divorces.

“Well, not all,” he told Parade magazine last September. “Lost enough. Divorce is expensive. I used to joke they were going to call it ‘all the money,’ but they changed it to alimony.

“It’s ripping your heart out through your wallet.”

Williams was last seen alive Sunday night by his third wife before she went to bed about 10:30 p.m.

Williams’ three children were financially protected by a trust set up by the comedian, according to TMZ.com. The kids receive their payments at three different milestones: their 21st, 25th and 30th birthdays, the report said.

I think Robin Williams was crying out for help but we just didn't pay attention. Is it a coincidence that a lot of William's more adult movies seem to have themes involving suicide?

What Dreams May Come
Patch Adams
World's Greatest Dad
Death to Smoochy
Good Will Hunting
Dead Poets Society

Not to mention depression related films like One Hour Photo and Insomnia.

Robin Williams wasn't exactly struggling for work when he took on these roles. He must have sought them out as a self interest. I don't see many other children's entertainers like Adam Sandler or Bill Cosby playing in roles like this.

I will be surprised if a suicide note does not turn up.

The President of the United States

The President of the United States chooses the new furniture upon move-in. Every thanksgiving the president is given the option of pardoning the White House turkey. On Easter the president participates holds the White House Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn, open to kids of all ages. The first line under the section Zetetic Council reads "The Zetetic Council will be in charge of publicizing the society and FET". I thought the ZC was more than that. It seems pretty specific for the first sentence.

I saw that Markjo had an idea on the main forums. He noted that it is often possible to set your phone to alert you in event of a received email. I can do that with the features of my dumbphone. That might work for me. Since I use my email for other things, it wouldn't involve me registering a worthless account.

Does that work for others?

You can get other opinions Tom, but I am flat out refusing to give out my mobile number. I've suggested alternatives, but if you are going to keep coming back to "Let me have your phone number" the discussion is over.

I suggested an alternative where your number was hidden behind a webpage.

A html page for the submit with a PHP include for the emailing portion would execute server side. No one would know your phone number except for the administrator of the site. The source of a php file is not publicly available under typical server settings. Creating something like that would be very easy: http://myphpform.com/final-form.php

Your alternative has me creating a facebook or a skype account just to log in and check if I'm needed. Unfortunately installing an app on my phone is not possible for me, either. I do not own a smartphone, because I do not believe in 1 day battery life.

I don't have a skype or facebook account, and I wouldn't log into it all that often to check if anyone needs me if I only had a few contacts to tend to. Presumably we all have SMS on our cell phones.

Any other opinions from the Council?

Alternate Proposal

It is possible to send a text via email. It is also possible to send an email via a web page. If privacy is a concern, how about an encrypted webpage which sends an email to a list of 5 cell phone numbers with a message. That should be easy to put together. Maybe even checkboxes near council member names for directed messages as an advanced feature.

It can be used by the Council for calls to order, when votes and are needed for impending matters. In that way the inactivity of a few will not hamper progress.

Just out of curiosity, what exactly are "all the Society's Requirements" that need to be fulfilled in order to be granted membership?

A working computer with at least 64MB of RAM, 233 Mhz Processor, 1.5 GB Disk Space, and 28.8k Modem with internet access.

Also, just what "Rights and Privileges" are attached?

Members of The Flat Earth Society are granted the privilege of announcing to friends, family, and all who can hear that they are now a standing member of an exclusive group of intellectuals who believe that the earth is flat.

Here is a picture to sway the audience:

And a quote! --

"We are more gullible and superstitious today than we were in the Middle Ages, and an example of modern credulity is the widespread belief that the Earth is round.  The average man can advance not a single reason for thinking that the Earth is round.  He merely swallows this theory because there is something about it that appeals to the twentieth century mentality."
