Arts & Entertainment / Re: Robin Williams Suicide
« on: August 12, 2014, 04:49:44 AM »
I think Robin Williams was crying out for help but we just didn't pay attention. Is it a coincidence that a lot of William's more adult movies seem to have themes involving suicide?

What Dreams May Come
Patch Adams
World's Greatest Dad
Death to Smoochy
Good Will Hunting
Dead Poets Society

Not to mention depression related films like One Hour Photo and Insomnia.

Robin Williams wasn't exactly struggling for work when he took on these roles. He must have sought them out as a self interest. I don't see many other children's entertainers like Adam Sandler or Bill Cosby playing in roles like this.

Arts & Entertainment / Robin Williams Suicide
« on: August 12, 2014, 03:30:24 AM »
Today is a sad day. Apparently Robin Williams had been undergoing depression and has committed suicide this morning via asphyxiation. It is unclear how or why. Perhaps Night at the Museum III pushed him off the edge. Maybe he killed himself because ABC axed his sitcom.

I will be surprised if a suicide note does not turn up.

The President of the United States

The President of the United States chooses the new furniture upon move-in. Every thanksgiving the president is given the option of pardoning the White House turkey. On Easter the president participates holds the White House Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn, open to kids of all ages. The first line under the section Zetetic Council reads "The Zetetic Council will be in charge of publicizing the society and FET". I thought the ZC was more than that. It seems pretty specific for the first sentence.

I saw that Markjo had an idea on the main forums. He noted that it is often possible to set your phone to alert you in event of a received email. I can do that with the features of my dumbphone. That might work for me. Since I use my email for other things, it wouldn't involve me registering a worthless account.

Does that work for others?

You can get other opinions Tom, but I am flat out refusing to give out my mobile number. I've suggested alternatives, but if you are going to keep coming back to "Let me have your phone number" the discussion is over.

I suggested an alternative where your number was hidden behind a webpage.

A html page for the submit with a PHP include for the emailing portion would execute server side. No one would know your phone number except for the administrator of the site. The source of a php file is not publicly available under typical server settings. Creating something like that would be very easy: http://myphpform.com/final-form.php

Your alternative has me creating a facebook or a skype account just to log in and check if I'm needed. Unfortunately installing an app on my phone is not possible for me, either. I do not own a smartphone, because I do not believe in 1 day battery life.

I don't have a skype or facebook account, and I wouldn't log into it all that often to check if anyone needs me if I only had a few contacts to tend to. Presumably we all have SMS on our cell phones.

Any other opinions from the Council?

Alternate Proposal

It is possible to send a text via email. It is also possible to send an email via a web page. If privacy is a concern, how about an encrypted webpage which sends an email to a list of 5 cell phone numbers with a message. That should be easy to put together. Maybe even checkboxes near council member names for directed messages as an advanced feature.

It can be used by the Council for calls to order, when votes and are needed for impending matters. In that way the inactivity of a few will not hamper progress.

Just out of curiosity, what exactly are "all the Society's Requirements" that need to be fulfilled in order to be granted membership?

A working computer with at least 64MB of RAM, 233 Mhz Processor, 1.5 GB Disk Space, and 28.8k Modem with internet access.

Also, just what "Rights and Privileges" are attached?

Members of The Flat Earth Society are granted the privilege of announcing to friends, family, and all who can hear that they are now a standing member of an exclusive group of intellectuals who believe that the earth is flat.

Here is a picture to sway the audience:

And a quote! --

"We are more gullible and superstitious today than we were in the Middle Ages, and an example of modern credulity is the widespread belief that the Earth is round.  The average man can advance not a single reason for thinking that the Earth is round.  He merely swallows this theory because there is something about it that appeals to the twentieth century mentality."

Except that when I zoom into the photo I can see soft foot prints in the dirt around the back of the rover, but no tire tracks leaving behind it. At no point in any of the Apollo recordings do they lift up the rover. The astronauts were only actually walking on the moon for a short time, and it is all well documented.

If you brought up his work in response you believe that this subject has, or may have, been busted.

Did you have some hope that you could provide definitive evidence of a conspiracy after Dr. Phil Plait's Bad Astronomy destroyed all previous attempts.

If so, document it, research whether Phil Plait or Myth Busters already busted it, and then submit it to both.

I looked, and didn't find where it was busted.

I can't find where this subject has been busted by children's book author Phil Plait. Kindly find a source for your nonsense.

No sources were given to my query. So it seems the burden to bust it is on you.

In response to the subject of missing tracks it was stated that the children's author Phil Plat has destroyed all moon landing hoax allegations. It is implied "Phil Plat busted all of this already".

If so, then it should be easy to look at his work which addresses the subject of missing tracks.

If not, and his analysis was incomplete, the burden is on Gulliver and others to bust it.

I don't see where the subject has been busted. Are you saying that this children's author may have busted it?

Real strong argument there.
No, I am not saying, and have not said, that "this children's author" may have busted it. Are you saying that a text written at a child's level cannot show that you're wrong about some fact? Are you saying that if I refer to such an author that everything he (or she) has written is not a real strong argument? Do I need to remind you of the "ad hominem" fallacy yet again?

Well, then if this subject has not been busted it looks like you have some work to do.

I've already shown via diagram that it's impossible for the moon to be in the sky with the sun, since the angles would need to be in excess of 0.5 degrees. A video showing the sun and moon in the sky simultaneously is dirt in your face.
Would you care to provide such a video?  I don't recall seeing the sun in the OP video.

I'm referring to the video you posted.

Except that we often provide evidence to back the allegations of fraud.
Just as you did with the South Pole fraud that you now champion as wrong?

How is your record of providing innuendo even come close to evidence of any fraud?

I don't know what you're talking about in regards to the South Pole.

There is plenty of evidence of fraud. Consider the missing Lunar Rover tracks, for instance.

The enlightened see it for what it is: evidence of a hoax. The brainwashed call it "the astronauts carried the Lunar Rover around with them on the moon rather than driving it".
You now content that the South Pole has been discovered after years of claiming fraud covers up the circumferential nature of the SP. You presented evidence of that fraud.

You're also on record that the movie Apollo 18 was a documentary with its moonbuggy. Now you want to argue that the Lunar Landings are a hoax? Really?

Did you have some hope that you could provide definitive evidence of a conspiracy after Dr. Phil Plait's Bad Astronomy destroyed all previous attempts.

If so, document it, research whether Phil Plait or Myth Busters already busted it, and then submit it to both.

That is not evidence.
You stated that images can't be presented as a proof in this forum.

Please, show only trustable evidence.

When have I stated that?
