I thought that was a pretty neat shot...  It doesn't say much to me about the overall shape of the earth..

If there are sufficient landmarks or other geographical features, and a reasonably cloudless sky, then, as with the Red Bull Space Jump footage, it can be determined whether or not the landmarks are within the viewing scope of a spherical cap, based on the orbital height or altitude of the craft.

What I've seen of the Inspiration footage thus far seems plagued by cloud, though...

OK, keep your fingers crossed for clear skies.

Hear back from you in a couple of weeks or so ....

If the earth is round - 620, but if it is flat, then much more. We found an excellent starting point, there are many points at various distances, good visibility.

OK.

What landmarks or geographical features do you have in mind, apart from those already named?

I've had a look at the area, and it seems largely unpopulated, so no large urban areas to focus on ...

we want to see Baikal, Novaya Zemlya, and maybe Greenland

Lake Baikal?

yes, about 2000 km

If you get to 30km altitude, I predict your limit of line-of-sight visibility from your craft will be around 620km.

The Red Bull Space Jump was at 39km, and it had visibility of around 706km.

I suggest you look to identify landmarks and geographical features within 600km of your launch site.

Off-duty Chicago police officer (Bunge) charged with shooting at two people sitting in their car

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2021/03/20/chic-m20.html

"... thought the GPS was giving them the wrong directions, so he pulled over to check it and parked behind Bunge’s car. Some moments later, Bunge appeared standing in front of their car and opened fire.

Video footage released by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) confirms this. The footage shows only Ramirez and Orozco parking behind Bunge’s car. It does not, as Bunge alleged, show anyone walking outside or getting into their car. It does, however, show Bunge firing upon the two men and Orozco driving away backwards in attempt to avoid the bullets.

Bunge is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm and has been stripped of police powers."

The man, Brady Mistic, said he was wrongfully jailed for four months over the incident on Sept. 17, 2019. He is suing Officers Nicholas Hanning and Ellie Summers, as well as the city of Idaho Springs and the Clear Creek County Board of Commissioners."

When you say "for 30 kilometers", please clarify - are you saying you will be going to a height / altitude of 30km?

If not, what height do you expect to reach?

Could I ask where the launch site will be?

30 hours of silence from the Inspiration4 crew after the launch. Only a few pictures of the crew in the dragon capsule. No non-fisheye-lens images of earth. They aren't giving me what I'd hoped for to have a conversation in this forum on this topic. Still waiting...

Betcha they're saving the best for the in-flight episode of the Netflix documentary.

One of the astronauts posted a 360 pan around the view from the cupola. No fish-eye there. It's on twitter.

Flat Earth Investigations / Re: The ISS - Who Should I believe?
« on: September 04, 2021, 04:54:13 PM »
Those are some great photos but what do they prove? They, alone, cannot prove that the ISS is a real "spaceship" with people onboard ...

So ... the natural thing to do is consider the other evidence apart from the photos, surely?

The videos of spacewalks and other activities.
Ham radio enthusiasts communicating with the occupants as it passes overhead
Photos of it in transit over the Moon
Personal observations of it from the surface of the Earth, sometimes twice in one evening
Personal accounts from both professional astronauts and private travellers who paid handsomely for the chance to go there
etc
etc

"Just draw half a rainbow (more or less the actual path light travels through the air) from the top of the mountain to your head on the ship."

... but the other guy asked you to DRAW it, not describe what to draw...

Can you draw it on a piece of paper, and scan it, or draw it in a drawing program or app?

an apologist for everything Trump did.

What exactly did Trump do? I'd be interested to know the terrible things he did. Based on his actions and policies, I'd say he was a reasonably good president. I mean, he didn't surrender to the Taliban and leave £billions of military hardware in Afghanistan. He didn't read everything from a teleprompter and only take questions from pre-selected journalists. He knew what day of the week it was.

Tell me ... what was the terrible thing Trump did?

Spent almost one-quarter of his presidency away from the office, on his golf courses, charging the American taxpayer for his own secret service detail to be accommodated there. Was nowhere to be seen during lame duck period. There was, and still is, a pandemic raging, and he wasn't going to accomplish anything by schmoozing with his buddies on the course, or at the nineteenth hole.

Do we need to point out how he favoured Fox and OANN in the briefing room? "Didn't favour certain journalists", my a*se...

How many times did he do phone-ins with Fox and OANN, compared with MSNBC, CNN etc. ?

He wanted to leave a ship of COVID patients moored offshore to keep the numbers of onshore cases down.

He mismanaged the pandemic. He shredded a bucketload of worthwhile environmental legislation, for no good reason than Obama had legislated it. The prime driver behind his presidency seemed to be revenge on Obama for embarassing him at the correspondents' dinner.

"He knew what day it was" - especially at the weekend. See above

etc

etc

How did you establish that they're FE'ers? Do you just take the word of anyone with a YouTube channel for granted?

If they claim to be Flat-Earthers, have a channel or a number of video titles with the words "Flat Earth" in them, and regular argue that the Earth is Flat, then what else should I take them to be?    Dog-groomers?  Telephone hygienists?

They openly state what they want to be known as, and regularly argue as such, so why would I take them for anything else?

Here's a suggestion: if you want to ask those people about their alleged views, and debate their beliefs, perhaps you should consider asking them, not us? I'm not too fussed about you wasting your time on this, but you're also wasting ours, and that's not great.

I'm not asking you anything about them. I didn't ask you or anyone else anything about them above.

I'm already active over there. I don't need to be told whether or not I should, or want, to engage with them.

Regicide said "Many Flat Earthers", xasop asked for the source for this, and I suggested that it could be read as I stated above, that the "many" includes numbers outwith your group here.

I didn't ask you or anyone else anything about it.

I realise full well you folks want to be seen as a breed apart from the "run-of-the-mill flat-earthers" that inhabit YouTube and other places, but you might just have to accept that in the eyes of the general populace, you're all one generic group ....

Many Flat Earthers reject the existence of gravity because they don’t believe that there can be an invisible force- they ask for someone, anyone, to show them gravity.
Do they? Do you have a source for this?

You didn't ask me, but;

YouTube is a beanfeast of Flat-Earthers who deny the existence of gravity. I can show you them if you really want me to.

For "many FEers" in the above quote, you could read "many FEers outwith this small subset at TFES"

I would suggest you post them anyway.

If the source pic is clear, anyone who wants to see the detail can right-click on the image in the thread, select "Copy image address" from the pop-up menu, and open a new tab with that URL to browse the image directly.

Flat Earth Investigations / Re: VFX Artists React to the Moon Landing

So you begin a rigorous recruitment process from the air force to find the absolute best of the best ... and you pick 3 guys who don't like communicating?

Michael Collins covers this in his biography; in the main, they were recruited from a pool of test pilots.

Quote
we weren't trained to emote, we were trained to repress our emotions, lest they interfere with our duties. If they wanted an emotional press conference, they should have assembled an Apollo 11 crew from a philosopher, Priest and a poet - not three test pilots.

I have no problem with the 'space' part.

Hmmm.

Just yesterday, you said "I don't trust anything they say. ", so ... unless this is some attempt at humour ("There's space between their ears"), you don't seem able to make up your mind.
