Breaking Bad is pretty great.

It is really great and I love the whole thing.

I watched the first few episodes of Breaking Bad, partially to stop friends and family from constantly pestering me with "Did you watch Breaking Bad yet?  Did you watch Breaking Bad yet?," but mainly because I've heard so many good things about it that I finally had to see what the fuss was about.  I'm sure that most of you have probably already watched the show, so I won't bother writing elaborate reviews for it or anything.  We all know by now that it's a great show.

What did you think, and will you continue watching?

They actually called me The Edge in elementary school for that very reason. A lot of people (usually people who don't know much about the ES community) seem to think that mods just "don't count" when considering the quality of the game, when they are actually integral. Yes, this means consoles get Diet Elder Scrolls Lite, which is a shame. For every ES game since Morrowind, the process has been this: Bethesda tries to make the game, breaks down when they realize once again that they're terrible developers, and tearfully shoves the incomplete or broken game out the door saying "here, you do it." The modding community then dusts it off and says "there, there, Bethesda. You did your best," and makes it all better. It's a pretty unique development model; I can't think of any other developer that operates in the same way, but it works well.
The vanilla game is the game, the rest is distortion. I like mods as much as anyone, but they didn't come as part of the official release, and any review of Skyrim qua Skyrim should not consider them. "I can make Skyrim a better experience for myself with mods" is fine; "Skyrim is a good game because of optional third party components the original developers had nothing to do with" I just don't buy.

I strongly agree with this.

The Police - Every Breath You Take: I'm already quite familiar with this song and like it; I didn't so much at first, but it's grown on me.
I really like Synchronicity, the album that song is from.

It is a good one. I should revisit The Police soon.

Currently attempting to read Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs.

It is a compilation of passages composed over the course of a 15-year, heroin-feuled excursion of isolation. The author was a mad junkie. There isn't too much continuity between chapters at all; it is noted that the reader can start pretty much anywhere.

A lot of it is hard to stomach - not the content, but the sheer volume of content. I can handle a couple paragraphs about sodomy, but page after page after page detailing insect rape can at times be overwhelming. The language is unsettling as well, even when the story being told isn't necessarily awful.

I can only handle about an hour at a time, at least the chapter I am reading. Has anybody else tried reading this?

I've read it once. I liked it a lot, though it is very dense and disjointed and I can see why someone would have trouble with it.

I liked it a lot too. I have been wanting to read it again since it has been quite some time.

There Will Be Blood (Paul Thomas Anderson)

My second viewing of this film comes after six years. I greatly enjoyed it the first time, when some friends and I stumbled upon it on a now defunct pay-per-view movie channel for the bargain price of literally one pence. I have no idea why it was available so cheap considering it was a major Academy Award contender that received high critical acclaim on opening, but it was that cheap and by god we took advantage of that fact. We were laughing along heartily with Daniel Day-Lewis's insane performance that only gets crazier as we head to the denouement, but this second time I was alone, able to sit and appreciate without distraction this masterfully directed, wonderfully scored and brilliantly acted character piece. I won't say much about the content of the film, because I want to encourage as many people as possible to get it and watch it and experience it for themselves, it deserves your attention if you haven't already seen it. And if you have seen it why not watch it again? There's so much more that I picked up on a second time around that I wholeheartedly recommend multiple viewings.

Heck yes! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I will probably be watching it again soon myself, along with many other PTA films.

I do hope to do a proper analysis of the ending at some point, but that will take time, not something to be done off-hand like this little write-up.

If you did this I would really love to read it. I thought about doing an analysis of The Master, but I really am not good at that sort of thing.

Anyway, people who think Hollywood is worse now are clearly forgetting the endless stream of bad movies that it has been shovelling forth ever since it existed. Look past the acknowledged classics of any decade from the 1910s through to the 2000s and you'll find (in addition to some hidden gems, obviously) hundreds of god awful, mediocre, insipid, uninspired titles. Because Hollywood is a film industry it produces large numbers of movies every year, most of them are going to be mediocre or based on dumb ideas like Space Invaders as a matter of course, it's always been that way.

Might that be a foreword for an argument on why reunion could be a good idea (assuming the community's demands are met)? I think so.

I definitely agree.

If we can ensure that the reunited site and Society are ran in a way that satisfies (shooting for satisfying here, and not just satisfactory) its members, then the argument would simply be that of strength in numbers. Our differences aside, we all have some common goals, or else we would never find ourselves active on either forum. The big question for now is whether our differences can be resolved for the greater good, or if we feel that the potential benefits wouldn't outweigh any downsides.

I also agree with this, but I am worried that he just won't be interested in participating in a discussion.

Personally, I don't see this as something to be actively pursued until Daniel himself comes forward with wanting to reunite. As far as I'm aware, we've been open to this discussion from the get-go, and I don't see how that situation has changed at all, with the exception of Wilmore (not Daniel) coming to speak on unrelated matters.

So no, I'm not opposed to the idea of reunification, but I don't see the point in making terms for negotiations that might not ever happen. If anything, that would just divert our attention from what we should be doing until the situation changes, i.e. treating our society as a separate entity and improving/growing it with that in mind.

I agree with this.
