Diplomacy
« on: February 14, 2016, 05:49:01 AM »
Is anyone interested in playing a game of Diplomacy? It's kind of a simpler version of Risk, only everyone's moves are arranged secretly and revealed/settled simultaneously. Negotiation is as important as actual military maneuvers and therefore necessary to win.

Each player assumes control of one of seven of the Great Powers of Europe at the dawn of the 20th century. Wars will be declared, territories conquered, and alliances forged - and broken! Betrayal is practically inevitable in this game, so the question isn't whether or not your allies will stab you in the back, but when.

The seven Great Powers consist of Britain, France, Germany, Russia, Austria-Hungary, Italy, and the Ottoman Empire. If we can't scrape together that many players, we can still play with less. Countries are supposed to be distributed at random, but I'm willing to allow you to claim your preference at this point. We can get stricter about the rules later on if this takes off. I'll be serving in the role of gamemaster - a neutral adjudicator who you'll be privately sending your orders to every turn. Orders will be resolved as soon as I receive them from every player, or else at the end of one week. If I don't receive any orders from you by then, all of your units will be held in place for the resolution phase. Negotiation can take place in the thread or (of course) through private channels.

The full rules may be found here.

Forum or realtime?
If you are going to DebOOonK an expert then you have to at least provide a source with credentials of equal or greater relevance. Even then, it merely shows that some experts disagree with each other.

How quickly the game moves is up to the players. The quicker everyone submits their orders, the quicker they can be resolved. If everyone happens to be online at once, we could potentially blow through several full turns in a couple of hours. Of course, that probably won't be the case most of the time. I'll be moving on to the next phase automatically after one week. That should be plenty of time for anyone who is still active.

Oh.  Perfect.  I'm game.

It ain't great if other players are ignoring your overtures, and it's even worse to let everyone else know that they are.

There are still three days left to submit orders.

Just making sure my messages are getting through...  ::)

I have no idea how to play actually, and yes, I read the rules. Is the seven week time the diplomatic phase?
