Title: Robin Williams Suicide
Post by: Tom Bishop on August 12, 2014, 03:30:24 AM
Today is a sad day. Apparently Robin Williams had been undergoing depression and has committed suicide this morning via asphyxiation. It is unclear how or why. Perhaps Night at the Museum III pushed him off the edge. Maybe he killed himself because ABC axed his sitcom.

I will be surprised if a suicide note does not turn up.

I love you, Tom.

Anyway, yes, this is sad news.  He was a fine actor who frequently chose not-so-fine roles.

I think Robin Williams was crying out for help but we just didn't pay attention. Is it a coincidence that a lot of William's more adult movies seem to have themes involving suicide?

What Dreams May Come
Patch Adams
World's Greatest Dad
Death to Smoochy
Good Will Hunting
Dead Poets Society

Not to mention depression related films like One Hour Photo and Insomnia.

Robin Williams wasn't exactly struggling for work when he took on these roles. He must have sought them out as a self interest. I don't see many other children's entertainers like Adam Sandler or Bill Cosby playing in roles like this.

Death is a release from pain.

I hope Robin Williams can finally rest peacefully.

We tried to watch Dead Poets Society last night but couldn't find a decent quality stream anywhere. We settled for Jumanji cause childhood.

I loved him. I never did like Flubber though.

I did not enjoy Dead Poets Society nearly as much as I expected to. I thought it was boring.

However, Good Will Hunting is excellent. I am watching that tonight.

Ah, so it was Night at the Museum III that pushed him off the edge.

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/robin-williams-troubled-financial-problems-report-article-1.1900580

Quote
The comedian, after two pricey divorces, was upset that he needed work to insure his family’s future financial security, a family friend told RadarOnline.

“All he could talk about were serious money troubles,” the friend told the website about a recent chat with Williams. “There were clearly other issues going on and Robin sounded distant during the telephone conversation.”

The troubled Williams was even rattled by the impending resurrection of one of his most famous film creations, “Mrs. Doubtfire,” the friend told RadarOnline.

“There was also frustration that Robin expressed at having to take television and movie roles he didn’t want to take, but had to for the paycheck,” the family friend said.

“Doing sequels was never Robin’s thing, and he wasn’t that excited at having to reprise the role of Mrs. Doubtfire.”The movie was scheduled to begin shooting late this year.

Williams’ sitcom “The Crazy Ones” was canceled by CBS this year after just one season, and he returned this summer to a 12-step program for treatment of his well-chronicled drug and alcohol problems.

In an interview last year, Williams typically made a joke when asked if he lost all his money in his two divorces.

“Well, not all,” he told Parade magazine last September. “Lost enough. Divorce is expensive. I used to joke they were going to call it ‘all the money,’ but they changed it to alimony.

“It’s ripping your heart out through your wallet.”

Williams was last seen alive Sunday night by his third wife before she went to bed about 10:30 p.m.

Williams’ three children were financially protected by a trust set up by the comedian, according to TMZ.com. The kids receive their payments at three different milestones: their 21st, 25th and 30th birthdays, the report said.

I find it hard to believe that he had money problems, but I guess I can see it. Divorce is expensive, especially if your ex is a bitch who takes advantage of your celebrity. I also didn't realize that he had drug problems.

Today we found out how he asphyxiated himself and why he was depressed.

Robin Williams decided that he would rather hang himself with a belt than make Mrs. Doubtfire 2.

Ahhh, emotional fatigue sets in. Bearing in mind that in the UK we get out of bed 5-9 hours before you, I have been having condolence messages on social media for longer and felt this when the news was probably still fresh for Americans. Yes, Robin Williams dying has become an internet thing, and its not going to go away in a hurry. Its a sad story but reaction hasn't been measured.

I was thinking about it and I've come to the decision that Robin Williams wasn't a clinically depressed clown with mental issues, as he is being portrayed in the press.

According to the nydailynews (http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/robin-williams-troubled-financial-problems-report-article-1.1900580) link on the previous page he had serious financial issues, which I take to mean that he owed a lot of money to wives/bank. He had recently stated that he had to put his home up for sale. They were coming after his assets and his only way out was to continue with his film making. When he tried doing his own original sitcom it was canceled after a short time by ABC. The big studios were only willing to pay him a paycheck if he played in the roles they wanted him in and returned to sequels promote their properties - ie. Night at the Museum 3 and Mrs. Doubtfire 2. The only problem is that Robin was a person who had great passion for his work and always said publicly that would only do a sequel if he felt it would be as good as or better than the original. In a recent late night interview when the host mentioned the Mrs. Doubtfire sequel the crowed cheered wildly and Robin Williams just gave a grim disappointed look and said it wasn't something he was looking forward to.

At the age of 63 he couldn't simply switch careers from something he had done all his life. He would have to compromise his artistic integrity to keep his head above water.

Having been married several times, with all the cheating and lawsuits (http://heavy.com/entertainment/2014/08/valerie-velardi-robin-williams-ex-wife-cheating-divorce-death-suicide-dead/), he was clearly having companionship issues.  According to that same link he spent very little time with his children as they grew up, always away doing his acting, probably more a figure coming in and out of their lives than a father. He named his daughter after a video game character, which she resented for a long time.

Robin William's finances were in shambles, his assets were being seized, his love life was non-existant, his relationship with his kids was negligible, his career was heading off a cliff, and he was being forced  to make unwanted sequels and dress up as a woman for the entertainment of others. Unloved and at a dead end in life, I think that would be the end of the line for a lot of people.

Source? Because from what I've read it seems like she's ok with her name. She has even done many things with Nintendo promoting their various games, including tournaments and commercials. She was even a special guest host of the London Zelda Symphony Concert on October 25, 2011. I don't think she resented her name at all.

Robin Williams also left a lot of money to his children, via life insurance and real estate assets. Maybe he thought he was doing them a favor?

Maybe now she's okay with it (perhaps since she's profiting from it), but while growing up she was bullied in school over it enough to make plans to change her name (http://archive.azcentral.com/ent/celeb/articles/20111125zelda-williams-teased-over-video-game-name.html).

Robin Williams cheated on her mom and she grew up with him popping in and out of her life. Do you think her mom raised her to think highly of her dad?

Zelda recently said this on Instagram (http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2014/08/robin-williams-had-serious-money-troubles-in-months-before-his-death-claims-friend-was-the-pressure-too-much/)

She had "precious, quiet moments" with her dad. It doesn't sound like they had all that great of a relationship or was around a lot.

“In this difficult time, please try to be respectful of the accounts of myself, my family and my friends. Mining our accounts for photos of dad, or judging me on the number of them is cruel and unnecessary. There are a couple throughout, but the real private moments I shared with him were precious, quiet, and believe it or not, not full of photos or ‘selfies”, Zelda said on her Instagram account.

She had "precious, quiet moments" with her dad. It doesn't sound like they had all that great of a relationship or was around a lot.

And I'm supposed to care... why exactly? Robin Williams is no different than many other men who have done the exact same thing. Bringing it up as some sort of point (I don't know the point you're trying to make though) seems unnecessary, especially so soon after his death.

What Robin did in his private life is really none of our concern, and it serves no purpose in this discussion.
Men cheat, so do women. That is the way of things.

I think everything you said is right. But people don't do things because of hardship. They do it because hardship makes them feel a certain way and that feeling compels them to action. That and his having a history of depression are what make me think he was depressed. And the drugs. He did a lot of those.
