Doesn't really matter who wins what, most of the artists in competition for these awards will be washed up by the end of the decade anyway.

Bold is what I want to happen (in the categories I care about/know enough about to predict), italics is what I think will happen.

Record of the Year: Imagine Dragons - Radioactive ----- Daft Punk - Get Lucky OR Lorde - Royals

Album of the Year: Kendrick Lamar - good kid, m.A.A.d. city ----- Daft Punk - Random Access Memories OR Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - The Heist

Song of the Year: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Same Love ----- Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Same Love

Best New Artist: James Blake OR Kendrick Lamar ----- Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Best Dance/Electronica Album: Daft Punk - Random Access Memories ----- Daft Punk - Random Access Memories

Best Rock Performance: Jack White - I'm Shakin' ----- David Bowie - The Stars (Are Out Tonight)

Best Rap Performance: Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools (Drank) ----- Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Thrift Shop OR Drake - Started from the Bottom

Best Rap Album: Kendrick Lamar - good kid, m.A.A.d. city ----- Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - The Heist OR Kanye West - Yeezus

My only other deep hope is that "Blurred Lines" doesn't win anything since it's a sexist, rape-y piece of garbage.

I released lots of good things in the past 12 months, and since I am a genius composer of incomparably exquisite masterpieces it balances out all the shit every other musician on the planet released this year. 8)

Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons were outstanding at the Grammy 's. Then some decent but sadly misplaced country singer had to perform. Poor girl.

In regards to Mackelmore, how does a song/album released 3/4 of the way through 2012 get nominated for the 2014 Grammy award?

The eligibility period for the 56th Annual Grammy Awards was October 1, 2012 to September 30, 2013.

I don't get why this song won Song of the Year, and in general is being hailed as such a masterpiece:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlcIKh6sBtc

While nobody is bothering to defend the (awful) melody or her (merely okay) vocals, the one thing that everyone's praising is the lyrics, which...criticizes the prominent excess of modern pop music.  So brave.  So controversial.  Truly, we have found the next Bob Dylan. ::)  Anyway, the song isn't terrible, or even all that bad.  I just think it's somewhat overpraised.

That being said, though, there's this mini-controversy that sprung up last year when some dumb blogger claimed that the song was racist, and it is really stupid:

http://feministing.com/2013/10/03/wow-that-lorde-song-royals-is-racist/

http://feministing.com/2013/10/10/a-little-more-on-lorde-royals-and-racism/

People like that just need to shut up and go away.

Because it's really popular

That and the fact that they think it makes some kind of statement. It's nothing special, but it's nice to have something like that on the radio I guess.

Besides, "Biting Down" is clearly the much superior Lorde song. That or "The Love Club".

Disliking a well known pop song... now that's bravery.

Royals is a fairly unique pop song for which I give kudos. As for an "awful" melody, I am not sure what that means other than "Saddam doesn't like it" which is fairly irrelevant. The Grammy's are only really concerned with popular music, so within that field I feel they chose a deserving winner; it's definitely got more substance than the average Rihanna or Katy Perry fare or the faux-fringe of Lady Gaga.

Why would Kendrick Lamar be labeled as a new artist anyway?
