If the Republican party was still run by non-trump lotalists, I'm sure they'd want to replace Trump as well.  But it's a messy process and it basically boils down to "They'll replace the candidate if the candidate wants that."

And at this point: who even could have the name recognition?
The conviction will get overturned on appeal.

There are plenty of well-known, viable Democrats who could have run if Biden had chosen not to run for reelection, like Gavin Newsom, Gretchen Whitmer, or Pete Buttigieg. The problem is that I highly suspect these ambitious, well-known Democrats won't want to be simply handed the nomination at the convention instead of campaigning for it and properly winning it like every other official party nominee has done. Getting into office simply because they were the last-minute replacement for Biden on the ticket would hurt their mandate and overall legacy. I could almost see a largely unknown figure, someone who ordinarily would have had no plans of running for president, taking the nomination and running against Trump on the grounds that they're, well, not Trump. I doubt the convention would want to take a risk on an unknown, though.

It was CNN's fault. CNN's new debate format with muted mics worked against Biden. During the 2020 debates Biden was often saved from having to make a coherent non-scripted argument or response to a question because Trump would interrupt him. Remember that interrupt-a-thon? In the format of this recent debate with muted mics Biden was allowed to mumble and bumble without interruption.

So you're saying Trump sabotaged himself with his own petulance?

In response to the critics asking him to step down because of his dementia-like issues, Biden has announced today that he's staying in the race and is going to beat Trump again in 2020.

You “accidentally” left out the bit where he said immediately after that he’d beat him again in 2024.
He clearly misspoke.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think Biden is fit for office (neither is Trump), but you don’t have to misrepresent stuff.

What are you, the Biden Whisperer? I don't see a correction. In his full yelling and screaming speech he said that he's going to beat Donald Trump again in 2020, and then he said he's going to beat him again in 2024.

@4:49
guess what they're trying
to push me out on the race well let me
say this as clearly as I can I'm staying
in the race
I'll beat Donald Trump I will beat him
again in
2020 well by the way we're going to do
it again in
2024 I learned long ago when you get
knocked down you get back
up and I'm letting I'm not letting one
90 minute debate wipe out three and a half
years of work

It looks to me like he meant to say that he beat Trump in 2020, and will beat him again in 2024, but mixed up what he was about to say in his head and accidentally said that he'll beat him again in 2020. I really don't think these verbal missteps are a big deal.

Biden was trying to say something "as clearly as I can" in defiance of the calls to step down because of dementia. It is especially embarrassing that he mucked that up.

This guy is a walking embarrassment to America. Here is another one from that same event:

Yes, of course by that Biden meant he was going to jizz in the overflow room. It's not like the word "come" has another meaning that's far more commonly meant and one that would have made much more sense in context. The only possible interpretation of that line is that Biden was announcing his intention to plaster the overflow room with his splooge.

When Joe Biden became President (or in his earlier days in the Senate) I wonder if NASA or Elon Musk ever disclosed to him that space travel was fake.

If he was made aware, I wonder if during any of his upcoming rambling speeches he'll accidentally spill the beans. That could be a huge story and a big break in the case since no space agency employee over the past 55+ years has yet come forward.

That’s clearly what happened and Tom knows it. Had Trump done something similar he’d be defending him to the hilt - as he did recently with that rambling electric boat story.
This was nowhere near the level of shambolic rambling we saw in the debate from Biden, the fact that the first clip was cropped to leave out the 2024 bit demonstrates this was dishonestly intended to imply that Biden doesn’t know what year it is. If you look at the full clip it’s clear he simply misspoke. It was an unfortunate slip, but it’s dishonest to misrepresent it as Tom did above.

It’s clear that neither of these men are fit to be president. Trump is a bit more with it than Biden but not by much - the way his stories meander and ramble isn’t much better than Biden. You just have to look at a transcript of his speeches to see he’s not making much sense. And he wouldn’t know the truth if it smacked him in the face

You guys are arguing that "he didn't really mean that", which is irrelevant. He is often incoherent and makes embarrassing statements. Biden's pronouncement that he is staying in the race and implying that he is coherently fit, while making such a gaffe, is almost on the level of the time he said "America is a nation that can be defined in a single word: Asufutimaehaehfutbw".

Hilarious, but sad. Biden's senility is the butt of jokes internationally. While the right has criticized Joe for years, the American leftist and centrist media establishment have recently begun actively throwing him under the bus. The Economist published a brutal July cover page.

https://www.economist.com/leaders/2024/07/04/why-biden-must-withdraw

"The presidential debate was awful for Joe Biden, but the cover-up has been worse. It was agony to watch a befuddled old man struggling to recall words and facts. His inability to land an argument against a weak opponent was dispiriting. But the operation by his campaign to deny what tens of millions of Americans saw with their own eyes is more toxic than either, because its dishonesty provokes contempt."

Trump wants a new debate!

But the catch is: no moderators.  No limits.  No rules.  Allowing Trump to use a debate method that's for gullible people.

This is true.
What you cult members refuse to acknowledge is you could say the exact same thing about Trump. The US was a global laughing stock under him too and will be again.
The fact he delivers his rambling nonsense more confidently doesn’t make it coherent.
And the endless provable lies make him look like he has no grasp of reality.
The whole world can’t believe that one of those men is going to be your next president.

Apparently Biden does this alot and has for most of his life.    We just didn't notice it because no one cared until now.
