Flat Earth Community / The Danger of Belief
« on: September 03, 2018, 04:08:46 PM »
There was a brilliantly crafted segment from the from the TV Show Friends which creates some philosophical reflections on what it means to be a skeptic and a believer, which I believe pertains directly to this subject matter. Runtime: 4m45s

Who won the argument? Was it the skeptic, or was it the believer? More importantly -- who was the skeptic and who was the believer?

Flat Earth Theory / Long Pipe Perspective Experiment
« on: September 02, 2018, 03:52:06 AM »
This is related to the recent thread about Finite Perspective that was closed in the Media Forum. I posted a couple of videos which explain, more or less, how the perspective explanations work in FET. Watch the videos if you are not familiar with the perspective explanations.

I came across a video where a man looks down a long pipe and sees some odd things as he moves his camera around. Runtime: 15 Minutes

At first I thought that he was just moving his camera below the edge of the pipe, and it was being cut off because the edge of the pipe in the foreground was intersecting the exit hole of the pipe on the far end.

However, this does not seem to be the case. We can see that it is not the edge of the pipe cutting through the exit hole. We can still see the pipe leading up to the exit.

A recent Globebusters episode had some discussion of the Universal Accelerator as held by the Flat Earth Society. They look at a PBS video which states that it was Albert Einstein who came up with the idea of an upwardly accelerating earth. We have made mention of this in the past, but here is a video. Watch the following video at the 3h4m16s mark for 15 minutes. Here is the video at that timestamp:

The video states that Einstein argued that the only way Newton's gravity makes sense is if the earth were flat and accelerating upwards. There are too many coincidences with Newton's gravity, Einstein says. Einstein ended up adapting his upwardly accelerating earth theory to the Round Earth model by making space bend, another way to make the earth accelerate, giving us General Relativity as we know it today.

Flat Earth Media / Finite Perspective and the Horizon Explained
« on: August 28, 2018, 11:11:02 PM »
I recently came across a video by StinkyCASH which, more or less, describes perspective and its finite nature.

Perspective is an oft-used reasoning FE'ers give when explaining why the sun sets or, sometimes, the sinking ship effect.

Runtime: 15 minutes.

The other branch of thought with does not use the perspective explanation is the Electromagnetic Accelerator theory.

Flat Earth Theory / Reasoning behind the Universal Accelerator
« on: August 28, 2018, 02:45:41 AM »
On reading through the FAQ and the Universal Accelerator pages I have come to realize that we are seemingly haphazardly proposing that the earth is accelerating upwards without really explaining why. We should provide background to this deduction process.

In my view, the earth is accelerating upwards simply because that is what we observe it to be doing.

Consider the following:

Experiment 1: Step up onto a chair and step off of its edge while watching the surface of the earth carefully. If you pay attention closely, you will observe that the earth accelerates upwards to meet your feet.

Experiment 2: Now find a ball and raise it into the air with your hand and let it go into free-fall. As it does this this you should simultaneously feel the earth pressing upwards against your feet. This tells us that we are being pushed to be in the frame of reference of the earth, as the earth runs into the ball.

While the "graviton puller particles" and "bendy space" versions of gravity in Quantum Mechanics and General Relativity provide equivalent explanations to the results of the above experiments, those things are are completely undiscovered, and so, are decidedly less empirical. We can see that the earth moves upwards, while we have to imagine that there are hypothetical undiscovered puller particles or odd properties to space.

We can imagine many explanations for the phenomenon of gravity, but they will be completely hypothetical and frivolous. None are as strong as something we can directly observe and experience.

Per the question of where the energy for comes from; since it is beneath the earth and inaccessible that is a question easily left as unknown. While we can directly see and experience the mechanical action of the earth's upward movement, we are ignorant of the energy source below. The phenomenon of "gravity" is as equally deficient in its explanation for where all of the energy comes from for matter to pull matter, and that usually gets glossed over.

Furthermore, and as another point, in order for "gravity" to exist, entirely new and untestable physics must be created for that construct. The phenomenon of pushing is well established and long known to science. After all, the phenomenon of push can occur with existing physics, whereas pulling particles or bendy space requires new physics. This favors the concept of upwards acceleration.

It appears that many people of the wider FE community are complaining that YouTube is demoting Flat Earth videos. YouTube admitted that they were planning on demoting such videos, and a spokeswoman specifically calls out Flat Earth as something to censor in this video.

On the most recent Flat Earth Podcast there was discussion about halting the "Research Flat Earth" slogan, since when you search for Flat Earth you get the Flat Earth Society, which they characterize as "full of trolls," and YouTube, which now promotes anti-FE videos. The prospects for the growth of the movement is dismal if Flat Earth is being censored.

This is important. Flat Earth was given its fair assesment in 2015, the first time in hundreds of years, and it exploded into a movement of flat earthers that is still growing. Flat earthers grew to thousands, and the subject is reaching millions of people, because no one had ever seen the evidence from that side before 2015. In 2018, it has now grown and become such a big thing that even mainstream media and the government are attempting to to stop it with censorship, ridicule and education.

Since we rank highly for Flat Earth, I believe that it is increasingly becoming our obligation to come up with some kind of scheme that promotes videos and contents of the wider Flat Earth community. We have discussed a sort of video content site in the past; which still seems like a good idea. Another idea is a Digg-like rating system, where users may submit content that gets upvoted. The old Digg had one option: You have the option to either "Digg" it, or do nothing. This type of scheme would protect from the trolls.

The current admins do not have the time to work on such a venture, and my suggestion would be to create a subdomain and give access to myself and others who would like to work on it. There are plenty of tube and rating-system type content manager systems to base this on.

What is the best way to handle the censorship of YouTube?

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Is God possible?
« on: August 26, 2018, 06:12:14 PM »
For a good while in my life I did not believe that the idea of a supernatural God was even possible. However, I have since come to the conclusion that God is possible.

This conclusion was sparked from the following: Is it possible for an alien civilization to be as technologically advanced as to seem to have the powers of a God?

My answer is yes. The television series Star Trek, for example, portrays a universe with civilizations in stages of various technological developments. There are civilizations who have not yet reached the stars, there are civilizations who explore the stars, and then there are civilizations so far advanced that they can appear to manipulate matter with a thought.

If you believe that the portrayal of the Star Trek universe is possible, and that we are on a range of technological prowess which will culminate with us having God-like abilities, then the conclusion must be that God is possible.

Suggestions & Concerns / Video Plugin for the Wiki
« on: August 12, 2018, 01:28:50 AM »
The Wiki seems a little limited on how we can embed video files. Would it be possible to install a YouTube/Media plugin?

Right now I am creating a clickable image like the video on this page:

It may be better if we didn't force our users to click away from the website, however.

Flat Earth Theory / Flat Earth Sunsets -- A Projection Effect?
« on: August 04, 2018, 06:01:37 PM »
In Earth Not a Globe the sun is a projection upon the atmosphere/atmoplane.

An illustration of the projection from the above work:

If the sun is a projection upon the atmosphere, might that provide some insight to how the sun sets?

What happens to the view in the far distance? The atmosphere eventually builds up to a point where you cannot see past. One cannot see for infinity. The atmosphere is comprised of opaque atoms and molecules, and is not perfectly transparent.

Here is a picture Bobby provided, showing that the opacity of the atmosphere changes over time, and can change the height of the horizon line.

(Click for Bigger)

In the distance the horizon eventually meets the thick atmosphere. Might the projection of the sun project onto that atmosphere in the distance, and eventually pass over the head of the observer?

Flat Earth Media / Infrared Flat Earth Proofs

JTolan has performed several experiments with an infrared filter, and was able to better see distant bodies in the water convexity experiments.

He also provided this one which looks at an island:

Flat Earth Investigations / Mars Curiosity Rover - Rock Issues
« on: August 01, 2018, 04:57:33 AM »
Take a look at the rocks in the upper left of these two images. Some of the rocks are clearly identical, albeit with sightly different lighting, but the rocks around them seem to be different in each picture.

To verify that these rocks are the same, look at the little white rocks that surround them in the foreground beneath them, and around them.

What happened to the bigger rocks around them?

Flat Earth Projects / Open the wiki to additional contributors
« on: July 24, 2018, 10:05:57 AM »
I would like to discuss the possibility of opening the Wiki to other contributors. There are many good investigations going on. We need to document the models fully, lest this information be lost, and the Wiki is the place to do it.

I have been reading the works of sandokhan, and I think he generally has many things right and has some good, interesting information. The Dual Earth, sure. I wouldn't mind if he uses the Wiki to promote his materials.

I certainly do want all of their works in the wiki. While some may have drastically different ideas on the nature of the earth, for the most part I think we can all agree that the general "top level" goal will be to support the general model. I support the bi-polar model, as does sandokhan, but I'm not going to just replace it in the FAQ without wider agreement. It also needs to first be more fully documented, which it is not.

We should probably set some loose rules:

    - If you are editing content of a page you did not create yourself, leave a comment in the comment field under the edit box

    - You are welcome to add on your own theories to the pages in the wiki, or make your own page

    - For fundamentally different models, you should create your own sections and sub pages

    - People may generally frown if you drastically change around the FAQ without some community agreement.

    - Not a rule necessarily, but making a post in the forums about new content will help you refine your ideas and show where people get lost in understanding of your explanation

Does this sound agreeable?

I have made a new article on the wiki: Celestial Mechanics Cannot Predict the Solar System

This is a companion to my previous article, the NOAA Solar Calculator, and should both be read.

It is often alleged that we need only download an astronomy software to see that the Round Earth system predicts celestial events, and that this is a demonstration of the superiority and fact of the Round Earth model. Users on this forum have linked us to astronomy software as their evidence and refuse to entertain the idea that they are just linking to pattern-based methods rather than anything to do with the heliocentric system.

It has also been alleged that the seemingly simple math used in Astronomical calculation textbooks are "really" based on keplerian or newtonian orbital dynamics. This article addresses that.

I have collected a number of resources showing that the pervasive myth that the Round Earth Theory has been validated, to be false. I ask that any challenger in opposition demonstrates with real evidence that astronomy can predict the motions of the planets as they are described in the Round Earth Theory. More evidence than a link to an obscure pdf or unverified model. It will need to be demonstrated that a model, according to the geometry of the heliocentric system, can predict any positions of the planets at all!

A great collection of experiments which create a compelling argument that the earth is flat.

Flat Earth Theory / Bi-Polar Model: YouTube movement catching on
« on: July 02, 2018, 09:19:12 AM »
It seems that someone has decided to look at the Flat Earth books and literature that has been around for the last one hundred years. Aside from the fact that the model is not new at all -- the Bi-Polar model became an official model of the society in the early 1900's under the leadership of Lady Blount shortly after the discovery of the South Magnetic Pole -- its a nice presentation of the basic idea.

The Flat Earth Society of Lady Blount's time (then called the Universal Zetetic Society) didn't provide a map for the Bi-Polar model, however. It appears that he is using Sandokhan's layout, to which he rightfully deserves credit.

If the author did in fact come up with this on his own, he deserves a lot of credit, although it is hard to see how, since the exact same map comes up in Google Image Search when one searches for "Flat Earth Two Pole map" or if one reads our Wiki.

Still, whatever. The author deserves good congratulations on his work on this video. Hopefully it spreads around to the YouTube community. I am glad to see that word is being spread.

Flat Earth Investigations / Video: NASA - 1983 space footage
« on: June 27, 2018, 10:50:42 AM »
An interesting video about old space shuttle footage.

It seems hard to explain how what is seen is a "reflection of the window." There are black sections that the man disappears behind, and the man does not overlap the shuttle.

An interesting video about the stars slowing down as they approach the horizon. At the 1:15 mark the author states that "the stars get significantly closer together as they get closer to the horizon."

This contradicts the Round Earth Theory that says that the celestial bodies move at a constant speed across the sky as the earth rotates. The official Round Earth excuse is, of course, that there is a permanent mirage effect that slows down the stars, and which also reverses any observation that suggests a Flat Earth.
