Philosophy, Religion & Society / Americans think democracy is in peril
« on: February 02, 2024, 03:07:07 PM »
https://abcnews.go.com/538/americans-democracy-peril-2024-election/story?id=106803471

Considering that America doesn't have a democracy, one has to wonder how in the world it could be imperiled. But, pedantic arguments aside, why are majorities of both political parties absolutely convinced the American government is soon-to-collapse?

Surely, it is not healthy to be so absolutely convinced the current sitting president, Joe Biden, didn't actually win the 2020 election. But, in contrast with that, it also surely isn't healthy to be convinced Trump winning the election would somehow result in him making elections illegal. Are both sides really itching to force "my politics" into the office so much that the allowing the other side to win is unacceptable? How has such a large portion of the American population become so divorced of reality in a world where reality is more accessible than ever?

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Affirmative Action Banned
« on: June 29, 2023, 03:08:00 PM »
Guys, as it turns out, discriminating based on race is illegal in the United States of America. Who could have known? Apparently Harvard didn't know. Aren't they supposed to be good at legal issues or something?

https://www.bbc.com/news/live/world-us-canada-65920022

I am linking to BBC since US news outlets have cult-tier opinions on Affirmative Action.

Apparently North America is being attacked by even more big floating objects of unknown type. At this rate, our entire sky will be 100% balloons by the end of the year. Terrifying!

Technology & Information / Cybertruck
« on: February 10, 2023, 02:56:29 PM »
Apparently Tesla is still set on actually making this monstrosity of a vehicle. I thought it was a went-on-for-too-long joke that Elon came up with to troll mass media. But, no, they're actually doing it. They're trying to get to the point of finalizing a production model of this meme machine. I mean, look at it:

https://electrek.co/2023/02/09/tesla-cybertruck-spotted-with-new-front-end-and-monstrous-wiper/

Look at that windshield wiper. That's hilarious. Who comes up with this stuff? I will, of course, be buying one. No one can stop me except perhaps the dreaded "OUT OF STOCK" phrase.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Parental Licensing and Why We Need It
« on: December 10, 2022, 10:41:30 PM »
Why is so much of our modern world regulated?

It's obvious.

It's important that society enforce certain standards upon itself so that, collectively, everyone may benefit from the standardization of certain processes. For example: guns. Virtually all nations on this planet have some regulations on ownership of deadly weapons. Yes, some have tougher regulations than others, but they all have some regulation. For the purpose of debate, let's just look at the West. The West has lots of regulations, from housing and labor to production and education, they have it all! Yet, there's something missing. Something I think is more important than the other things, more important than most of them combined...

Children.

Any two morons can produce a conga line of children without any form of regulation whatsoever! What the hell? Who thought that was a good idea? You know what's infinitely more dangerous than a gun? A small child. There's factories for them walking around right now and no one has considered that maybe those factories need to be closed. Every moment of every day, filthy uneducated masses are producing more of themselves with no thought whatsoever as to the effect it will have on civilization.

Therefore, a proposal: you must attend training and acquire a license before you are allowed to have children. This includes fathers and mothers. Does this mean it's now illegal to have sex? No! It means it's illegal to do so with the purpose of reproduction without a license. What happens if a mother gets pregnant anyway? Abortion. That's right. Mandatory abortions for any unlicensed parent-to-be. You know it's the right thing to do. Support parental licensing today for a better future tomorrow!

Science & Alternative Science / Nuclear Bombs Do Not Exist
« on: October 07, 2022, 04:09:18 PM »
Considering all of the recent fearmongering regarding Putin using nuclear weapons, I felt it necessary to remind everyone here that nuclear weapons simply do not exist.

They're not real.

They're made up.

It's a meme.

Seriously, they are nothing other than WWII propaganda that the Allies made up to scare Japan into surrendering and to keep Russia from continuing the war. Then Russia started to claim it also totally had nukes and yet no one ever used them. Suspiciously, no one anywhere ever uses them! Wow! It must be because humanity is so strong willed and moral and definitely not because they don't exist.

Technology & Information / Machine Generated Chemical Weapons
« on: September 02, 2022, 02:48:47 PM »
While everyone is busy arguing over the definition of art and about AIs that busy themselves printing out pretty pictures, this AI was busy finding ever more creative ways to murder you.

https://www.chemistryworld.com/news/drug-discovery-ai-that-developed-new-nerve-agents-raises-difficult-questions/4015462.article

The irony that the system was intended to find helpful new medicines given a series of constraints is interesting. It categorized the new finds based on how toxic they are, the problem being that some of its new finds may be worse for you than a helping of VX nerve gas.

Obviously this is the best use of $300 billion that the Democrat party could think up. Definitely nothing better they could do with that money other than give it directly to the financial sector. Nothing at all.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/24/politics/student-loans-joe-biden-white-house/index.html

Should someone making $124k per year really get $10k of their debt paid off? Does it make sense to contribute so much aid towards the sector of America that is, in general, the most well off?

Philosophy, Religion & Society / NATO Shenanigans
« on: May 13, 2022, 01:47:28 PM »
Currently, Finland wants to join NATO; Sweden is still thinking about it. However, to join NATO all members must approve of your application. Guess who doesn't approve?

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-05-13/turkey-doesn-t-favor-sweden-finland-joining-nato-erdogan-says

Unsurprisingly, it's Turkey. Why don't they approve?

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Eugenics
« on: November 17, 2021, 03:48:26 PM »
An author, Iain Banks, whose books I have been reading, turns out to have some pretty interesting beliefs. He is a very blunt supporter of eugenics and yet he's also obviously supportive of communism. The real communism, the stateless, classless society kind; as opposed to the authoritarian tankie meme communism we have today.

In his books, there is an ultra-mega-super-advanced society that has no government, no classes, no scarcity of any form. Labor is required by no one; it is all done by fully autonomous machines. There is no form of regulation or laws, even against murder or rape. People just... don't do that (most of the time). Why? Well, because they were programmed not to do it!

CNN: One of the most compelling aspects of the Culture's society is that it's post-scarcity: no one wants for anything, people aren't hungry, everyone is clothed. Do you think it's within humanity's nature to build a society like that?

Iain M. Banks: Arguably not. This is why the Culture isn't us. I thought long and hard about this long before the books were published and decided, that the Culture wasn't going to be us in the future, it would be humanoid, they could kind of pass for us, because I'm not sure that we are.

It's a very pessimistic thing to say that we do seem to be wedded to war and destruction and torture and racism and sexism -- all the horrible things, all the xenophobic things -- we seem to have a xenophobic gene sequence. I think we should genetically modify ourselves, frankly -- if we could identify the bit that causes all the horrible things we can knock it out and become nicer people.

Normally, we have eugenics arguments spouted by what most would call 'right-leaning' ideologies such as Fascism. It's interesting for an author to have written such an amazing communist utopia, then turn around and say the only way we can achieve it is by reprogramming humanity into it.

I'm not even sure he's wrong. Is such a society possible without some hardcore gene editing changing the face of humanity? Is there a 'selfish gene' we can delete? Maybe eugenics isn't that bad! Is an idealistic utopia worth the cost of programming people to be inclined to enjoy it?

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2021/08/apple-explains-how-iphones-will-scan-photos-for-child-sexual-abuse-images/

If you own an iPhone product, Apple will now scan all of your saved images under the guise of protecting children. It will forcibly install the app onto your phone. Apple plans on releasing this spyware app on all of its products at a later date.

Quote
Shortly after reports today that Apple will start scanning iPhones for child-abuse images, the company confirmed its plan and provided details in a news release and technical summary.
...
The changes will roll out "later this year in updates to iOS 15, iPadOS 15, watchOS 8, and macOS Monterey," Apple said

At least they have the decency to tell you. I'd imagine Google does this already.

"Microsoft, Oracle and and other tech giants team up Covid-19 vaccine 'passports'"

Quote
Some of the country's biggest tech firms and health care organizations have joined together to help facilitate that return to "normal." The group, called the Vaccine Credential Initiative, wants to ensure that everyone has access to a secure, digital record of their Covid-19 vaccination — like a digital vaccine passport — that can be stored in people's smartphones. The records could be used for everything from airline travel to entering concert venues.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/16/tech/coronavirus-vaccine-records-microsoft-salesforce/index.html

I for one am glad that oversized tech companies are now being given power to whitelist people. I am certain that this system will not be abused in any way and mistakes will not be made. This will not set any dangerous precedents for private organizations to maintain deeper control over other people's activities.

His death is an apparent "suicide"...

This is after only a few names have been released, including Prince Andrew of the UK royal family and Bill Richardson, the former governor of New Mexico, each implicated in an international pedophile ring.

Round Moon, round Mars, round... wait, no, that's not a round Earth. That's a flat picture of Earth's horizon. I wonder why NASA would do that? Perhaps a rebel graphics artist is sending us a message?
