It's confusing because the video starts in the middle of a story he is telling. Try being more honest in your life.

He is talking about poorly built electric boats that barely stay afloat due to weight. The boat doesn't randomly sink in the story. They are prone to sinking and prone to possible electrocution. He is pointing out that there could be a situation in which you might be faced with jumping into shark infested waters or going down with the boat and risking electrocution. It isn't always feasible to distance yourself from the boat when it starts sinking. The all-electric boat adds more danger.

O.o

Just curious... How would you not be in shark infeated waters with a normal boat sinking?  Do such boats magically save you from being in the water once the gas hits the ocean?

And Trump's story is, once again, BS.

https://www.southernfriedscience.com/for-immediate-release-experts-respond-to-concerns-over-the-relative-risks-of-electric-boats-and-shark-encounters/

Like. Why would a boat sink because of a battery?  Yes its heavier but unless you just slap an EV battery  into a small boat, its not gonna matter much.  Boats displace water based on their weight.  So if you have a boat that can't handle an EV battery without sinking... You probably shouldn't be using the boat anyway.

Trump weighs 215lbs.
I grabbed the Breeze 20 for battery size.  15kwh.  Weight is around 450lbs.  (I couldn't find exact weight)

If your boat is gonna sink because an additional 2 donald trump's get on it... You need a bigger boat.
The conviction will get overturned on appeal.

There would be multiple reasons to stay on or near a sinking boat. When a boat sinks there is often debris left in that spot which could act as a makeshift raft and provide some protection from nearby sharks. It is much smarter to stay near where the boat is sinking than to swim out to the sharks. It is also possible that the boat will topple over as it sinks and create an air pocket that prevents it from fully sinking, providing a surface you can climb up on.

And Trump's story is, once again, BS.

A 450lb EV battery isn't going to allow you to do much at sea. Practical battery-electric boats and ships essentially don't exist because of the battery size requirements. See this Quora thread "Why is it so hard to make a fully electric boat?" -

https://qr.ae/pslleC

"My Nissan Leaf has a 500 lb battery, and only provides the equivalent of about 2 gallons of gasoline, and that ignores the inherent efficiency of an electric motor compared to an reciprocating ICE.

For a boat to take a heavy load 30 to 1000+ miles, the boat might be too heavy to float. That includes cargo and container ships, cruise ships, longer ferry trips, etc."

https://qr.ae/pslq8i

"Batteries don’t work for anything more than a dinghy. Electric on the other hand does work - the below is the SX190 fuel cell design from Ulstein"

https://qr.ae/pslqNx

"Long range vessels must be hybrid, This is not a 3,200 lb/1450kg Prius…..no battery pack in the world can move tens of thousands of tons of ship, cargo, generate electrical power, cooking for aboard, heating and air-conditioning, navigational electronics including radar, steering multi-ton rudders, cranes and pumps for cargo, massive anchor winches and capstans for dock-lines, fire-fighting systems, etc. for long distances and may not for many generations to come. This means that it must support both diesel and electrical systems with the electrical losses inherent in changing one kind of power to another to drive propellers.

...

The poster who showed a photo of the Sweden to Copenhagen ferry (there are two) didn’t show you the size of the battery packs each the size of a tractor trailer (4 on top of the top deck: too big to store below and so high and heavy that it affects the ship’s stability by a percentage.) It is charged after every trip and the entire trip is only 2.2 nautical miles. This is not a long-range solution.

It was also NOT paid for by the ferry company but by government funding and a large amount by the electrical systems developers as a prototype to see if it could be used on other ships. On the plus side: It has been in daily service for 4-years BUT cost $31.9 million dollars ($36.4MM in 2022 money) to install on a ship that already had electric drive engines. That’s about the cost to build an entire new diesel ferry of the same size and capacity."

There currently exists no known battery technological capable of powering a boat for any commercially viable distance.

Gasoline: 46 MJ/kg
Lithium battery: 0.8 MJ/kg

An ICE's efficiency is in the ballpark of 40%, so the usable energy in gas is really 18 MJ/kg. That still means whatever you do with lithium batteries is going to be 22.5 times heavier than gasoline. A gallon of gas weighs about 2.7 kg. That means for every gallon of gas, you need 60 kg of batteries. That gets out of hand quite fast.

A car with a 20 gallon fuel capacity needs the equivalent of 1200 kg of batteries to achieve the same energy. That's 2600 lbs its towing around instead of 115 lbs of gas. This sort of scaling problem is difficult for cars to overcome, much less 18-wheeler vehicles or ships. A container ship carries millions of gallons of fuel. An airplane is in the thousands. If you consider range losses due to the extra weight and the expense of lithium batteries, it gets very obvious why electric vehicles are so terrible when it comes to range.

All that said, an electric ship sinking into the water is not going to electrocute you, lol.

Trump weighs 215lbs.

Trump weighs far more than that.

Anyway, the story is ridiculous, but the fact that Trump is telling a ridiculous story isn't really a big deal. His rallies are more for entertaining and riling up his fans than anything else. It doesn't matter what nonsense he says to them. They're not there to hear persuasive, logical reasoning from Trump.

All true, but the hypocrisy of them lapping up his incoherent rambling while claiming Biden is in cognitive decline is worth noting.
The truth is they're both in cognitive decline - and why wouldn't they be at their ages?
The fact that one of them is going to be US President for the next 4 years (unless they die or become incapacitated in office, which is fairly plausible either way) is making most people's head spin outside of the US, and maybe in the US too.

The fact that you guys had to post a video which starts with Trump in the middle of a story discredits your claim.

Biden's gaffs are a continual stream of national embarrassment.

It's frustrating to a lot of people but the fact of the matter is that the majority of Americans seemingly have no problem whatsoever with having ancient people elected to positions of power. I wouldn't trust an 80 year old man to drive his own car; I don't want him driving the country.

Which means nothing more than Trump claimed to weigh that much. He's obviously lying, just like he's obviously lying about his height. Trump's height and weight won't be accurately recorded unless he's actually convicted and sent to prison.

Nobody is denying that Trump was in the middle of a story. Like I said, I don't think it's a big deal that Trump is entertaining his followers at a rally with nonsense about sharks and batteries, but simply pointing out that he was in the middle of a story doesn't actually address the primary criticism of his story being completely bonkers.

It's also pretty funny that you're complaining about missing context, and then you link to a video that's just a compilation of various isolated verbal stumbles taken from a number of Biden's speeches. You could make anyone in the world sound like an idiot if you compiled every "um" and "uh" they uttered over the course of a week into one video.

Seems Trump didn't say it...he quoted the paper.

The paper was relating the news that corporate tax rates under Biden would be raised from 21% to 28%.

It seems the author(s) of the article are the ones who believe CEO's should be fired if this happens.

If you had taken the time to follow the links in the article instead of just assuming, you would have seen that no, the WSJ were not the ones who called for anyone to be fired, Trump was.

I don't think this is even especially newsworthy. It's a dog-bites-man story. It is interesting, however, how regularly Trump fans convince themselves that he's one of them, a common man up against the elite, when he so regularly demonstrates that he's entirely on the side of rich people and big business.

In other Trump news, Trump has requested the GOP simplify and streamline the convention platform.

https://www.npr.org/2024/06/30/nx-s1-5024189/trump-rnc-republican-party-platform

It's behind closed doors so we won't know what it is until the convention but I have a prediciton:

Elect Trump to the Presidency.

That'll be the platform.  That's it.  Simple.  Elegent.  And really shows what the new Republican Party stands for.

That's not it at all. The Court - that is to say, its conservative majority - don't want to be the ones to officially say that Trump definitively can or can't be prosecuted, so they're playing for time by kicking the case back to the lower courts with a vague ruling that settles nothing. Unfortunately, this is entirely to Trump's benefit, as the whole point of his frivolous appeal was to buy enough time to be reelected. The Court have now given him that time.
