Suggestions & Concerns / Re: Zetetic Council
« on: December 07, 2013, 06:05:52 PM »
Check you out, trying to take Parsifal and PP's power away. They may decide to share power or give it away, or decide to set up a Zetetic Council. Who are you to say that they shouldn't have absolute power?
i'm one of the many users on this site with no power. That was kind of an odd question.
Are you suggesting Parsifal should be president?

We all voted with our feet to trust in their ability to administrate and look after the site. I'm not so sure we also voted them to lead the sociey. I was of the impression the society should be run by its members at last. Not by people who know the passwords for the forum. That's what ruined FES the last time.
We all must fall under someones password control, unless you have your own website. Then we must fall under your password control.

Suggestions & Concerns / Re: Zetetic Council

Ok, so to set up a Zetetic Council, we don't really need a lot from the administrators. Literally just a forum we can post into. We'd also need an agreement from the administrators that any vote from the council that is passed is binding and that they will endevour to do whatever they can to make it possible whether they agree with it or not. The Zetetic Council should have absolute power. Not Parsifal and PizzaPlanet. That's kind of weird and frankly could be destabalising.

Rules - cos we all like rules.

Ideas will be put into the new forum and discussed by those in the council.
Votes will be publically cast for transparency.
A resolution needs 50% or more the votes in order to be passed.
Nothing can be voted on twice in the same month. Saves repeated lobbying.
Any member of the council that isn't voting regulalry can be dropped from the council as this will prevent making 50%. This is no big deal, they can always be added again if they start posting again.
It isn't to become a clique like the old beliebers club was. If you stop posting, you are off the council until you return. We don't want it just the same 10 people from now until forever. That is irritating.
The forum for discussion should be public, but only accessible to the members of the council.
Being a flat earther is not a pre-requisite. Just a hardcore member of the forum with the society's best interests at heart.

Ok, what do people think?

I'd expect the council to be voting mostly on matters of FET and how to promote it. Whther to appoint presidents, have memberships, what goes into a goodie bag, should we contact such and such a media outlet, who should respond to whatever event, - that kind of thing.
I wouldn't expect too many votes for technical stuff, because frankly our technical team know better than we do. But the council's vote has to be binding, otherwise there is no point in the council.

Is this something people are interested in?
Do the administrators agree to this?

Other suggestions welcome.

Suggestions & Concerns / Re: Saddam's Troll concerns

He's breaking the site's only current rule. We're trying to be patient, but it's not working out. Perhaps a short ban (or series of thereof) will help him.
And you would be breaking the same rule by banning him.

Deliberate off topic posting in a serious thread should not be allowed, warnings then bam. This would also cover low content posters.

Like I just said, I'm Saddam Hussein.  Who else would I be? ???
IWTB

That was a low blow.
I am truly sorry, I usually try not to cut somebody down so badly. Please forgive me.

We have no photo of him, and his name is probably a Samuel Shenton-inspired pseudonym.
Hey now, we have a fair few photos of his back.
Also, we know his real name. It is not Shenton.

So many questions present themselves.  How do we know that?  What is his real name?  And why the fuck did he lie to us and the media?  I mean, I can understand that he might not want to put his real name out there.  Our experience with him throughout his tenure has made it quite clear that he's pretty damn paranoid.  But the way he kept acting as though that was his real name just feels like deceit, and even worse, deceit that was specifically aimed at us.  It's like if I suddenly revealed that I wasn't really Saddam Hussein.
Put your real name out here, and then talk about how terribly he lied to you.

Announcements / Re: Comments wanted: Switching domain to tfes.org
« on: December 05, 2013, 01:20:13 AM »
The only thing is that it's handier, I think, to have a domain name that's quite obviously related to the FES. People are more likely to chance upon "flatearthsociety.org" than "tfes.org", and, like Thork said, it affects the Google rankings, which is important as well.

Sure, but we can redirect any number of domains (including flatearthsociety.org) to whichever one we choose as the primary domain. What I'm trying to work out at the moment is which domain should be the primary one, and I like tfes.org because it's short.
Tfes will be a household word before you know it.

Suggestions & Concerns / Re: Forum structure
« on: December 04, 2013, 01:58:36 AM »
Can we consider my structure idea?

I think we only need two forums for FE.

A super serious one to discuss flat earth and bring credibility to the site, and a fun one where people can post dumb stuff and have fun about FET. Not CN. CN is for everything. FE Fun could be for zetetic maths and square earth theory and all the other stuff people love to post, without scolding them for posting here.

Additional.
Make the Flat Earth Debate forum a different text colour or something. Red font maybe. So its very obvious that is the main point of the site and has a marked step change in moderation and rules.

Condensing the 3 will stop moderators having to move everything which is confusing to someone who made their first post and it dissappeared, + it stops a discussion on gravity in Q&A and in FED and in General all happening at once.

It will also stop the main forums looking so empty until new users arrive. If the FE Debate forum gets so busy as to require splitting, do it due to demand. Not dogma.
I think your structure idea is basically good, many of the old sections did seem to overlap. And the differences were subjective, split and moved for any reason. I of course, would like to see a conspiracy section.

Flat Earth Community / Re: Motive Behind the Conspiracy
« on: December 03, 2013, 02:40:30 AM »
What do you guys suggest as the motive behind this conspiracy thing?
The conspirators want to delude the world with all kinds of falsehood. They want people to be ignorant, as ignoramuses are more easily controlled.
