Flat Earth Theory / Gravity as observed, cannot be explained with FE theory
« on: November 10, 2021, 12:58:54 PM »
Gravity is a product of mass. We have incredibly accurate equations, that work incredibly well, that only use mass and distance as variable terms.

Gravity on a disc will be skewed if you're standing at the edge of the disc. It won't act perpendicular to the surface, as we clearly observe, wherever we are on the earth.

Acceleration doesn't solve this problem, (despite being patently ridiculous as a solution, as a mere year of acceleration at 1G would have us approaching light speed which would cause significant visual artefacts when looking at the night sky from the surface of earth. Not to even mention the problem of where the energy is coming from to constantly accelerate our planet at 1G without throwing 'dark energy' as a wild guess), as gravity would still be skewed by the mass of the disc when measured from its edge.

Universal acceleration can't explain why more massive objects exert more gravity either.

Gravity, as observed, cannot be explained in a flat earth theory, no matter how convoluted the attempt.

Occam's razor can be applied. When every thing we observe can be explained by a spherical earth causing gravity in proportion to its mass, we don't need to fabricate preposterous theories, (like universal acceleration due to dark energy), to explain it.

If gravity is actually universal acceleration, why does the moon and Jupiter have different gravitational attraction?

Good questions also, I feel observable gravity is the biggest thorn in the side of FET. It's just impossible not to sound ridiculous trying to explain it away with magical forces of unknown origin, when the mass warping space time explanation is so elegant and able to predict with great accuracy what we observe.

Universal acceleration is a preposterous idea, truly.

Hi there, I've been pondering gravity in the FET and I can't make it work. Looking at the wiki and FAQ on this site doesn't help.

Obviously, the standard model of gravity can't work with a disc shaped world so one answer to explain away gravity in the FET is to suggest that we're undergoing "Universal Acceleration" at 1G. I have a few problems with this idea.

1) Were does the energy come from to constantly accelerate the earth, moon and everything else at 1G for millennia?

2) Just how fast are we moving through the cosmos after millions of years of 1G acceleration?

3) How can the varying gravitational attraction of the various bodies we can observe be explained, if everything is accelerating at the same rate?

Saturn and the moon have very different gravitational attraction, so wouldn't that mean they are accelerating at different rates? If that is the case, why are all the planets, asteroids and moons all still very close to the same plane?

It just doesn't work as an explanation for me.
