Flat Earth Theory / Re: Kansas and the pancake

You obviously do not understand anything. You do not understand basic logic. You seem to think like a little child.

Your comment to my suggestion is completely useless. I assume that you do not understand the research article at all. Please read it again more carefully!

Besides, the pancake used in the research article IS round, which is obvious from the photograph!

Nicely said, dog!

Some things can be verified experimentally, some other cannot!

I agree with dog. The speed of electromagnetic radiation in vacuum is abour 300000km (299 792 458 m/s to be exactly).

And I also wonder about those stratellites. There are thousands of satellites (or 'stratellites'), so at least about 10000 people involved in building those stratellites, developing the techniques and electronics, developing rockets, handling down/uplink for communication etc must know the 'truth'. Is that estimate about correct?

Yes its nice. To see all the possible projections of a sphere onto a two-dimensional plane (your monitor...). There is a nice summary on Wikipedia:

What was this thread about? GPS? Would not work without accounting for effects of General Relativity...

Ask me for details!

I would guess people argue that the sun is a kind of campfire.

Or maybe the sun is just using the new bright LED's...?

Maybe NASA put the sun where it is?

Your responses are not constructive!

If you don't believe people, YOU should go and observe. Like a sunset!

Why?

Should I mistrust that person?

Please name a reason!

A former colleague of mine claimed to have been on the South Pole. What should I deduce from that claim?

This former colleague is neither a liar nor easily deceived. What should I deduce?

I still do not understand what that image is supposed to claim in favor of FET. Can you explain to me please?

You mentioned the official FE map only includes the northern circumpolar star map. What about the southern circumpolar star map? Can I only see stars from the northern circumpolar star map?

Thirdly, where exactly are the boundaries of the three "stellar orbits"? Those on the image seem really continuous to me...

Flat Earth Theory / Kansas and the pancake
« on: May 20, 2015, 02:13:58 PM »
On the Wiki I found a link to an article stating that "Kansas is Flatter than a Pancake" link. However, this article (which I believe is not meant to be very serious anyway) does not describe what kind of DEM data is used to create the profile map of Kansas. It is even possible it uses data from radar satellites orbiting earth (link). In that case, the roundness of the earth is a precondition for the article.

If not, the profile data could be just measurements in the direction of gravity, and thus would be probably identical in the flat earth as well as the round earth scenario.

In any case, the article does not proof anything, neither in favor nor against, the flat earth theory, and should be removed from the Wiki.

However, I would like to open a serious discussion on this topic. Suggestions and thoughts are welcome!

Can someone please explain what the linked picture is trying to explain? And what "three kinds of stellar" orbits mean?

Great; even if life is a simulation, why not assume the most simple logistic explanations of things around us?

If its a simulation, the shape or size of earth does not matter in anyway.
If it is NOT a simulation, there must be things you do not see. Like atoms. I never seen an atom myself, but taking all observations, books, reports, scneitific achievements there is no reason to doubt in atoms.

Either way: Your basic argument ("It looks flat") does not hold.

How old do you think I am?

Flat Earth Theory / Sunrise and Sunset II
« on: May 20, 2015, 06:37:56 AM »
I need to reopen my question, as it has been closed.

The observation os a sun going below the horizon is explained in the FAQ as a perspectivic effect. However, this cannot be true.

When standing on a very high mountain, one can clearly see the sun vanishing below the horizon. If this would be a perspectiviv effect the sun would get very close to the horizon, but never able to go below the horizon.

Am I wrong? Please explain!

My question was about people who do not deliberatly lie. People which really believe they have crossed the Antarctica!

What happened to them? What exactly have those people have done?

Flat Earth Theory / Stars moving around
« on: May 20, 2015, 06:12:37 AM »
When looking up in the night sky from Europe, one can see the stars moving around a star labelled as 'Pole Star' (over the duration of the night). However, when looking up the night sky from e.g. Australia, one can see the stars moving roughly around a star constellation called the 'Southern Cross'. How is this working exactly on the flat earth? Is there some documentation available?
