The atmoplane in FET isn't perfectly transparent (nor is the atmosphere in RET).

Is this really that hard for you?

While this is true, is it that opaque to be able to bend the light from the sun so much that the sun looks like it is setting, without changing speed in the sky, and without changing angular diameter?

My first thought of all this F.E. "crap" was honestly, stoopid. As spelled, ..correctly? (My humor..) but after months of intense research I've joined the truthers. And I can honestly say if not flat, it's definitely not globular.

Why can't it be a globe?

I watched a 4hr documentary... I imagine most every one of you has seen it.

If you come across it, please link it.

Anyhow, what I don't have the means to do is measure for myself what relations these have on a flat map, or where I can go to observe and study what others have done.

Any info?

Are you asking for our opinion? I am a REr. I would like to see the video to see what you're talking about, first. Then, calculations should be done to see if it could work on a Flat Earth. If not, there's evidence the world isn't flat, basically.

Finally another Round Earther like me

Don't worry. I'd say the majority of people here are REs, even the ones that claim to be FEs. There's a few that are genuine.

RE here. I believe I may help.

First, welcome!

Second, read their Wiki, it answers most of your questions: wiki.tfes.org

The wiki doesn't answer the most FUNDAMENTAL questions
It can't even answer my questions regarding how items can exist on a flat Earth

Specifically why I said "most" of his questions

First and foremost, the sun is NOT FLAT

Otherwise sunlight would not be able to reach the "Flat Earth"

Agreed

Besides most of you guys are quoting from the Flat Earth wiki and do not truely understand what it means. And before anyone jumps to conclusion how the Earth is flat or 2 Dimensional I suggest looking from the other point of view, and check if the proof that the Earth is  3 Dimensional and spherical is logical (Well I find it perfectly logical as well)

You have to look from both points of views before jumping to conclusion that the Earth is flat

Except so many members here point to the wiki as explanations. They supposedly explain it word for word, and I'm following that explanation. When they say the Sun is under the Moon, I'm going to assume they mean that the Sun is closer to Earth than the Moon, because that is what the wiki is basically saying. I can't think of any other explanation.

I have looked at both sides with a relatively unbiased opinion. FE made no sense to me.

The sun is not flat and this leads to this question - Why is the Earth the only flat planet?
I can prove that all the other planets are not flat using a diagram but I don't have time

I've seen FEs claim that just because the other planets are round, doesn't mean Earth has to be.
"Earth isn't a planet" is the general answer I've seen. The why varies some, but is generally summed up as: Only place with life, why should it be the same?

yes this too. the catch is that we have new (fake?) evidence we might not be the only with life, or that ever had life.

The comment section is a crazy circle jerk of FEs. Wow.

Anyways, excellent video. Not only does it clearly show the Earth's curve, but how going higher allows you to see further, which doesn't make much sense on a FE.

When the moon and sun are at the same altitude one half of the lunar surface is illuminated and pointing towards the sun, This is called the First Quarter Moon. When the observer looks up he will see a shadow cutting the moon in half. The boundary between the illuminated and unilluminated hemispheres is called the terminator.

When the moon is below the sun's altitude the moon is dark and a New Moon occurs.

When the moon is above the altitude of the sun the moon is fully lit and a Full Moon occurs.

The time between two full moons, or between successive occurrences of the same phase, is about 29.53 days (29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes) on average. This denotes the cycle of alternating altitudes.

Does this description of the phases of the moon match anything you have ever observed? The moon moves above and below the sun? This would mean the full moon is much further away and smaller than the new moon. Is this observed?

"below the sun's altitude the moon is dark and a New Moon occurs" I think this implies that you can't see the new moon because the the lighted side is facing away. Which is actually correct. But in the FE belief (see their diagrams and animations) this could only be true for part of the Earth. If the moon was exactly between an Earth bound observer and the sun so that the moon could not be seen, it would not be in that alignment for other parts of the "flat" Earth.

Ever notice that calendars you buy at the store have the phases of the moon printed on days throughout the month? In the FE models shared here, the phases of the moon would vary every day from one part of the world to another. Do you have to buy a different calendar for each part of the world so the moon phases will be correct? Of course not.

These aren't my words, it's from the wiki. I don't believe the Earth is flat. Round Earth model and the Heliocentric model are much simpler, in my opinion.

RE here. I believe I may help.

First, welcome!

Second, read their Wiki, it answers most of your questions: wiki.tfes.org

I've heard the general consensus is that the sun is a sphere, but acts as a spotlight. There's a few random FEs around the internet that claim its flat, but not many.

FE come to the conclusion that its flat, as based off what I've read and watched, because they have claimed to have never detect curvature, spin, and have only ever seen a flat horizon.

Historically, it popped up before the notion the earth is round came about (2000+ yrs), but went into serious decline after the model of a round earth take over: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_Earth#History

The phases of the moon wouldn't be determined by the Earth. Even on a round earth, the Earth doesn't cause the phases, rather its position relative to the Earth. The changing angle of sunlight bouncing off the moon caused by its orbit is what determines the phases. As for flat earthers, the wiki (https://wiki.tfes.org/The_Phases_of_the_Moon) uses the idea of sunlight reflecting off the moon, except that the change in the phases is caused by the change in altitude and position of the sun and moon over Earth. Here's their explanation:

Flat Earthers (again, from what I've usually seen them claim, this may not be correct for everyone) usually say the curve seen from a plane isn't actually there, and you would need to be higher to see it (which is partially true on a round earth. Curvature on a RE would be very slight from that altitude, you'd need to roughly double it to see anything significant, like riding Concorde), or the windows on the plane cause a fisheye effect, etc. On the wiki, it is claimed curvature is just the terminator line from the spotlight: https://wiki.tfes.org/High_Altitude_Photographs

To reiterate, these are based off what I read online or see in FE videos, this may not be the case for everyone, but this is, I assume, the majority of belief. Of course, there's always other opinions.
