Flat Earth Community / Knowledge is a good thing . . .
« on: November 13, 2017, 08:13:38 AM »
So - I've looked around.  Pythagoras - Aristotle - Eratosthenes - Al-Biruni - Galileo , etc. , etc.  (Rowbotham)  With each is a step.  Small step.  Backward step sometimes.  Big step others.  Many use empirical knowledge.  "That all our knowledge begins with experience there can be no doubt"... - Kant, 1781.  there is also a priori knowledge, which is knowledge based on ideas beyond just the senses and more on mental calculations, summations, conclusions, tribulations, etc.  God, if he/she exists (another question) gave man this ability to think - as Descartes stated "Cogito ergo sum" (I think, therefore I am).  Therefore there are concepts that, empirically, do not exist, yet, of course they do - mathematics, nuclear physics, gravitation, black holes, stem cells, viruses, etc. , etc.  So to all Flat Earth believers, I wonder - I do not question, but I do wonder - why follow the Hebrew Bible or an archaic diatribe from a presumed charlatan (i.e., Rowbotham) when other knowledge about you shows otherwise?  you are all using CPUs that were developed from transistors and microprocessors and in no way could be considered 'empirical' simply because some processes can not be even seen visually.  yet - you base your assertions on a man who performed a flawed experiment over 150yrs ago.  I wish you all well.  But knowledge is discovery oft-times, not just perseverance.

Flat Earth Media / Re: Charles K. Johnson Map

Hello!  I think I found the map you are looking for on this website - https://aplanetruth.info/2016/08/21/the-ultimate-flat-earth-map-collection/comment-page-1/  the 5th one down by Giovanni Domenico Cassini / Jean Baptiste Nolin: Planisphere Terrestre … 1696.  I tried to attach it, but it said it was too big.  nice collection of maps btw.

Thanks Tom - I didn't even think it was a circle - that explains the perspective.  guess I was trying to understand it compared to that other map which is looking down where antarctica is the wall.

well - i'm a woman if anyone cares to know (wally is where I work).  don't know why there aren't more women - maybe they are just too busy or they haven't done well in STEM studies, as the media likes to say these days.  i'm here just to find out about different perspectives, no right, no wrong - just to understand stuff for it's own sake.

Flat Earth Community / Re: The Need To Believe In A Flat Earth
« on: November 12, 2017, 04:57:01 PM »
IMHO - I believe the FE society, though refreshingly they do not throw it in our faces, 'need' to have a flat earth because of the misconception that the Bible supposedly implies it.  Since the Bible is the 'word of God' - finding out that something God said (or implied) is wrong or mistaken would basically mean that some other parts of the Bible may be wrong.  FE believers are 'literalists' as in - whatever the Bible says is literal true.  That is why when people talk of things which may have occurred 700,000yrs ago they scoff - since the world per the Bible is only about 6,000yrs old.

instead of using planes - use boats - like Samuelson & Harbo in 1896.  I am not going to compute this right now (or probably ever) cause I work & this is getting to be my bedtime.  but maybe someone more inclined may do it.  air travel is not acceptable - but rowing, sailing might be.

Flat Earth Community / so - I don't understand your logo
« on: November 11, 2017, 06:31:04 AM »
Hi.  I'm still new here, so if I ask a stupid question, sorry.  I have looked throughout the site - but there doesn't seem to be any place where you explain your logo.  It's a transparent sphere with a flat earth in it.  My question is - why is there a continuation of the firmament below the flat earth disk?  I mean - how would anyone know if there is space there?  Are there beings under the flat earth plate that need a sky?  or air?  or stars?  Your logo has a little space between the earth plate and the sphere - is that so air can circulate?  or to allow comets to roam?  or what?  Can you explain how you came up with your logo and why?  Just wondering.  Thanks.

Hi all - I am new.  Just wondering about pictures of people parachuting - where you see the earth's curvature behind them.  (I hope I did the attachment right.) These people are 12-13k feet above the earth.  They are obviously not in a plane, so there is no curvature caused by airplane windows.  On the internet, there are a lot of pictures of other people parachuting (which I unfortunately can't afford to do), so they all can't be using the same camera with the same distortions.  And most of these people are not astronauts or work for NASA, etc. - they are unrelated people without an agenda other than having fun.  FE advocates accept some empirical data as proof - but they don't like photos, though they accept Lady Blount's sheet photo(s).  So what is the cause of this seemingly optical illusion of an earth curvature in many parachuting pictures?
