Flat Earth Theory / Re: Gravity
« on: February 28, 2025, 12:29:28 PM »
Gravity is the force that pulls objects with mass towards each other. On Earth, it makes things fall and gives weight to objects. The Earth is round because gravity pulls matter towards its center. In Flat Earth discussions, there might be alternative explanations for gravity that differ from the mainstream scientific view.

Flat Earth Theory / Re: Is Mars rotating faster?
« on: February 28, 2025, 12:27:07 PM »
Recent studies indicate that Mars is indeed rotating at an increased pace. NASA's InSight mission has revealed that Mars' rotation is accelerating by approximately 4 milliarcseconds per year², leading to a slight reduction in the length of a Martian day. Researchers are still exploring the root cause, but it may be linked to the redistribution of Mars' mass, possibly due to ice accumulation on the polar caps or post-glacial rebound.

Flat Earth Theory / Re: Photo from Plane Proves the Earth Is Round
« on: February 26, 2025, 01:03:16 PM »
"Photos from planes can show curvature, but factors like lens distortion, altitude, and perspective need to be considered. Higher-altitude images from weather balloons and spacecraft provide clearer evidence. Ultimately, multiple lines of evidence—such as satellite imagery, physics of orbital mechanics, and long-distance observations—consistently support a spherical Earth."

Light generally travels in straight lines in a vacuum, as described by classical optics. However, in the presence of strong gravitational fields, general relativity predicts that light follows curved paths due to spacetime curvature—an effect observed during solar eclipses when starlight bends around the Sun. Atmospheric refraction can also cause light to curve, altering apparent positions of objects near the horizon. The context of the discussion matters when considering whether light ‘naturally’ curves.

Flat Earth Investigations / Re: Solar Eclipse of Aug 12, 2026
« on: February 26, 2025, 12:54:57 PM »
Eclipse predictions have indeed been based on observed cycles like the Saros series for centuries, independent of specific geometric models. However, modern eclipse forecasting does align with well-established celestial mechanics, which accurately predicts not only timings but also paths of totality. Understanding both historical pattern-based methods and contemporary orbital models can provide a more complete picture of how these predictions are made.

Why don’t Flat Earthers ever make a video showing a structure or land form that shouldn’t be seen at a relative distance and elevation? For instance, if an Earth curvature calculator says that the top of a tower that is 100 feet above sea level can’t be seen at 17 miles away on a calm, clear high noon with camera/telescope 6 feet above water at the beach, make a video showing the top of the tower 17+ miles away at standard atmospheric refraction.

Flat Earth Theory / Re: A paradox in SR
« on: February 25, 2025, 11:09:09 AM »
From a flat Earth perspective, some might argue against the validity of SR altogether. However, if we stick to the principles of SR, the string would indeed break due to length contraction. This paradox serves as an interesting thought experiment to understand the effects of relativistic physics.
