The server that hosts the forum, wiki and IRC was down for about six and a half hours, from about 17:00 to about 23:40 UTC, 2014-11-20. I'm still looking into the root cause, but the reason for the duration of the outage is that it happened in the middle of the night here, and I was asleep.
In response to this incident, I'm going to be looking into setting up proper monitoring soon. It's something I've been planning for a while and never got around to because the server has been very reliable until now. Hopefully this won't happen again, but I'd like to be prepared.

Literally Daniel. Thanks for fixing it, though.

It's Yakkov! His lawyers did something.

Absolutely unacceptable. This outage makes the total down time, planned and unplanned, about 8 hours for the site's first year of operation. That only correlates to a 99.999% uptime. Just terrible.

I was so lost without TFES. I laid on the floor staring at my phone for about 6 hours. My girlfriend left me, two of my cats died from dehydration, and my dog started eating the flesh from my feet because I guess he thought I was dead.
I demand compensation for my emotional damages. You will be hearing from my lawyers tomorrow.

It's probably because IT'S SO FUCKING HOT RIGHT NOW.

Actually, it is terribly cold outside. Take your crazy rantings elsewhere.

This might be relevant if the server was in backwards land, but it's not.

Actually, the server is in California.

California confirmed for backwards land.

I read outage as outrage and that expressed my feelings towards this perfectly.
-
Gayer is so mad and upset.
-
We all were.

I tried to force myself to sleep to pass the useless time once I realized the outrage was going to last for more than a few minutes. I was also at work. :(

This is outageous.
