Arts & Entertainment / Eurovision

I don't want to make a new topic for this every year so here we go, generic Eurovision thread.

Who I want to win because it's 10/10 Eurovision shit:

Who will definitely not win at all but it is still ridiculous and weirdly catchy. And I just love that Germans seem to have this quality of flamboyancy and severity at the same time:

Honorable mentions this year:

Arts & Entertainment / The Witcher Series

Finished Witcher 2. Meh.

There aren't enough quests where you are actually a witcher. It's mostly just boring politics. Since I know canon Geralt pretty well, I just try to stay out of the politics as much as possible and do my own thing. I saved Triss and I didn't kill the dragon or any sorceresses. I did kill Letho even when I don't think Geralt would have. I just want to be a witcher with a good overall story. I don't want to be someone that everyone is trying to use for their own agenda in a mostly interactive movie.

Crafting items was a cool addition and I do like the fighting better. But I really, really, disliked the flashback artwork. The third game looks like it will have plenty of sidequests so hopefully I like it better.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Lena Dunham Molestation

It looks like people are upset about an alleged 7 year old child experimenting with her younger sister.

Personally,  I think you have to look at these things case by case where the ages and intent are really important. Sexually curiosity is normal behavior but at what point does it become abuse?

Typically you do this kind of exploration with kids your age and it's a mutual curiosity, this sounds like she knowingly took advantage of her younger sister.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

I'm sure most of you have seen the trend where you either donate or dump a bucket of ice water on yourself and then challenge two others to do the same for the sake of raising money and awareness for Lou Gehrig's Disease. I haven't payed too much attention to it really. But then someone on my Facebook went on a big rant about how stupid and wasteful it is and how embarrassed she is of her country and generation. She urged these stupid people to donate water or money to people who need clean water.

Should we be embarrased? ALS Association has raised about 12 million dollars which is a huge increase from normal donations.

So this big game hunter/cheerleader has been getting a lot of attention on FB. I don't really care either way, I don't like seeing the pictures of dead animals on my newsfeed but I don't see how signing a petition will actually help the problem of hunting endangered species. Now I did read her side of the story and how she thinks it helps conservation - it really just comes down to how the money they spend on the hunts incentivizes farmers to keep lions and other big game on their land, in which case it seems like there would be better ways to help than paying to kill them. But whatever, it's not an issue I'm going to get on a soapbox about.

Then I saw this awful, awful article by Matt Walsh that someone posted. His whole argument is about today's moral anarchy. How people have no right to be upset about the killing of endangered species if they don't also rage about the many abortions that happen every year. Because if endangered life should be protected > all life should be protected > especially humans.

Just learned about this and I'm in love with the idea. How possible do you think this would be? Do you think it'll ever happen?

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Why Does Denmark Hate Animals

So they kill healthy zoo animals instead of finding other homes for them.

Along with the pilot whale slaughter that happens on the Faroe Islands it just kinda seems like the Danes really hate animals.

Science & Alternative Science / My Dog's Giant Tumor
« on: February 21, 2014, 08:02:33 PM »
So here's the screenshot of the vet's post on facebook about it. Then I posted just the pictures. Like I said, the tumor didn't encompass any of his organs so it came out in one clean chunk and that is just the tumor. She had the theory that maybe he was never neutered (I got him as a rescue so we don't know his early medical records), that maybe these were testicles that never descended and grew into a cancerous mass.

Pre-surgery he weighed 47 lbs and post he's 38 lbs.

Arts & Entertainment / Duck Dynasty Controversy
« on: December 19, 2013, 11:28:20 PM »
My Facebook is blowing up about some guy on Duck Dynasty getting booted from the show because he said in an interview that he thinks homosexuality is a sin. A&E doesn't agree with his opinions and chose to kick him off the show.

Most people seem to be upset over this decision. SOMEHOW, people think that this is taking away his Freedom of Speech. When in reality, it's a private company that doesn't want to be represented by a homophobic man. I don't understand how people are muddling this issue.

Suggestions & Concerns / How is Jroa Still a Mod?
« on: December 15, 2013, 08:12:07 PM »
After his insulting and sexist rant in People who think you fancy them when you don't. thread I tried messaging him. All I said was that I didn't appreciate his behavior in general toward me and that I thought it would be best if we kept a distance on the forum, but I think he broke.

Suggestions & Concerns / FES Video
« on: December 04, 2013, 06:48:34 PM »
I'll get this rolling with its own thread. I suggested that if we want more traffic we should make a video that links back to this site and start posting it around.

So far we have Pizza Planet willing to edit the video.
Thork (or possibly Crudblud) can do the voice over.
And Spoon offered to provide background music.

Maybe we could work on the script together here. Now what kind of video should this be? Should this video describe the FES as a whole and the movement up until this point?

Arts & Entertainment / Now Playing (the Video Game Version)
« on: December 01, 2013, 08:29:19 PM »
Original post from the old thread:

So yes, I decided I had to make another general thread because I'm tired of sitting there thinking of whether or not I should make an entire thread about a game just because I want to say something about it. Of course, specialized threads for specific games and series are still great if you want to talk about them, but here's a place where you can just comment on something you're playing, something you just played, or whatnot.

I'm resurrecting this one because I had just recently posted that I started playing Baldur's Gate multiplayer with A&A. The game itself is fun, but the damn thing keeps crashing to the point of being impossible to play. It's very upsetting.
