Arts & Entertainment / Re: 2013 a Year End Review: Music

I would say Royal is my favorite song of this year, but it is a good one which is starting to get overplayed unfortunately.  I'm not sure if I could really pinpoint my favorite song, but my top five would include My Body by Young the Giant and Burn by Ellie Goulding.

Arts & Entertainment / 2013 a Year End Review: Music
« on: December 03, 2013, 06:57:05 PM »
As the year draws to a close, I like to look back and see the good, bad, beautiful, and ugly of the year.  I know this sort of thing is cliche and a bit overdone by mainstream media, but I still like to if only to remember some of the really good stuff instead of the typical drivel which tops other charts.

So what did you find most memorable in the music business this year? What was your favorite song, album, or band from 2013? Was there something that just are away at your soul when you heard it?

My favorite album this year was The Afterman: Descension by Coheed and Cambria.  This album, along with the previous one Ascention, really brought back the feel of Coheed from their second and third albums.  Bear's Den would have to be my favorite new band this year (though they actually formed last year I didn't hear them until this year).

A true corporation, one publicly traded and owned, should have no religious protection because you don't have one unifying choice from the owners.  A privately owned company has the luxury of having a single owner or close nit ownership group so it could identify a religion.  That being said, I don't think it is right for Hobby Lobby to receive religious exemption because the owners are religious while the store in its day to day operation is nonreligious.  They may donate profits to religious organizations, but at the end of the day they are selling craft items, not religious items.

I think the 80s version was the best.  I'm a little curious why the 2010 version wasn't the original version, unless I'm mistaken.

Capitalism has the checks and balances that communism doesn't.  The best way to prevent corruption is to make it harder to partake in the corruption.

Sanford's series is set in Minnesota.  Maybe it is the same one.  He has two series which intermingle based around Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers.

I'm going to pick up the latest Sanford novel for my parents for Christmas and then I'll subsequently borrow it from them sometime there after.  His books are the first serious cop drama in any format that I actually enjoy.  The bad guys in those books are usually pretty well developed and often disturbingly psychotic.

CCR is a great dadrock break in band.  I think they may have been my dadrock gateway band too.

When a business caters specifically to a group, it could very easily be said that the business is part of that group.  Religious education institutions enjoy the exemption from the Obamacare mandate on birth control.  These institutions teach and employ secular people.  Why would they be exempt but a store which caters only Christian items not be exempt?

However, a Christian store which provides only Christian based products is obviously stating that they are a Christian store, almost akin to a church just without the  worship.

The FAA regulation on GPS drones being one of the biggest issues.  I think I heard that the FAA will be having a look at this rule in 2015?

Death Cab for Cutie and Avett Brothers were the two bands that really pushed me to the music I listen to nowadays.

What about a business that only provides religious services/products, one such as Lifeway which is a Christian bookstore?

I didn't think Hobby Lobby was a corporation.  I'll have to check into this but I did not think they were an openly traded public company.

I'm the same way with Nirvana, I don't really listen to them or that type anymore.

I can remember not being too concerned with music as a child and it wasn't until I was 10 years old or so that I heard the band which would ignite my love for music.  Who was that musician for you, either that turned you on to music in general or to a specific genre?

Nirvana was the band that really got me turned on to music.

A big stick could also do the trick.  It's a novel idea, but I doubt it'll happen by the end of the decade successfully, i.e. without a bunch of packages being stolen.  Drivers can at least call the cops if they suspect they are being followed and I doubt a drone could accurately distinguish that behavior.
