Flat Earth Theory / Re: The cosmos, confusion, and further understanding

The WIKI explanation is utter nonsense.

Here's a video clearly illustrating that it is not any perspective related issue which hides the lower part of a vessel:

If what is in the WIKI were accurate, as a magnifying device was used to bring the vessel into view, the interface between the ship's deck and it's cargo would become visible as the entire object shrinks and grows.  This is due to the fact that the height of the ship itself is nearly as large as the height of the stack of cargo above the deck. For this video, this can be seen as the ship's tower passes.  The cargo is much lower than the tower which puts the height of the cargo reasonably close to the height of the ship.  As the video clearly shows, the entire ship has disappeared below the horizon leaving only the cargo visible.  If Rowbotham's explanation were correct this is not what we would witness.

Trumpty Dumpty is getting trashed.  Not sure how he's going to play it as a win but he'll try to spin something.  He will lose to DeSantis in the primary.
He's blaming his wife.

Always the class act.

Oh goody...

Not sure what to think.  The U.S. populace is certainly stupid enough to elect him again.  Although, I know many republicans who are tired of him and want him to go away.  The problem is Joe Biden being idiot arrogant enough to run for a second term.  I think a reasonable democrat defeats Trump due to the fact that enough republicans will simply not vote if the alternative isn't Biden.  Kinda how Trump won in '16 due to democrats not coming out to vote for Hillary.

My being able to recover them isn't the issue.  Would my interference in the trading of bitcoin have a significant effect on how the value has changed over the past 13 years?

26
3. You can't change anything in the past so why the hell would you bother?

To bear witness to historic events?
To play winning lottery numbers?  Pick up some soon to be extremely rare collectables really cheap?

Both of which alter history by having you there.  Unless you were there originally.

An interesting conundrum.  If I go back to late '09 and drop $10K on bitcoin and hold onto it taking 10 million bitcoin out of circulation so to speak, does bitcoin reach $60K or have I altered its value.

Flat Earth Theory / Re: My weekend Moon Tilt
« on: September 06, 2022, 04:17:40 PM »
Going to leave the original post here as I've further examined the situation.  I'm pretty good at admitting when I make errors and don't feel the need to hide them.  Intuitively, as I thought about things rotating about me it made sense that the terminator would rotate as described above.  Also, the first look at my CAD sketch appears to affirm that rotation.  However, I took my CAD sketch of the situation and examined what would be some of the angles involved.  It appears thus.

If you look at the scenario in greater detail, you can see that things are a little different due to the fact that the whole situation is rotating.  When my straight line viewing angle is added to the picture, it turns out I was incorrect about what the FE rotation would render.  Looking at the detail, you can see that the wedge of light between my viewing angle and the terminator actually gets smaller.  This would appear to me when looking from below as a clockwise rotation.

So, rotationally FE works.  What still doesn't is what would need to be the actual angle of the moon tilt under the FE model.  I had not intended on discussing that here as I've created other threads on the subject.

Flat Earth Theory / My weekend Moon Tilt
« on: September 06, 2022, 02:40:21 PM »
Had beautiful clear skies to look at the first quarter moon this weekend.  Watched it from about 8pm to about 10 pm where I live.  Starting thinking about what I was seeing with the moon tilt.

The WIKI (https://wiki.tfes.org/Moon_Tilt_Illusion) attempts to explain what is witness based on EA and viewing the bottom of the moon.  I didn't have my camera, but these mooncalc snips show what I witnessed with respect to how the moon tilt changed during my observation.

According to the EA explanation, we are looking at the bottom surface of the moon with EA bending the light for what we view.  The WIKI explanation is pretty good.  However, when one follows the position of the sun with respect to how my witnessed moon tilt changed, the two are not possible.

If I'm looking at the bottom of the moon, then as the sun and moon continue to rotate around the pole, the tilt of the moon should actually rotate counter clockwise based on my location and looking south to view the moon.  In order for moon tilt to rotate clockwise from my viewing location would be for the moon to be moving away from the pole on a FE mononpole or bi polar map.

Here's a sketch of how the sun and moon would have rotated about me at that time.  If you envision how my view of the bottom would be if EA were actually in affect what would be the upper limit of the moon terminator should move counter clockwise.  This sketch shows what would be seen looking down on the situation and the terminator is rotating clockwise.  When viewed from the bottom as we would, the terminator would be rotating counter clockwise.  This is not what I witnessed.

Flat Earth Theory / Re: Question re. EA
« on: September 02, 2022, 02:14:19 PM »
Been thinking of a few things we observe and had a quick question for the EA crowd.  Does the effect of EA lessen as you get farther from the surface or the earth.  In other words, does horizontal light begin to straighten as you get farther from the earth?
Not as far as we know, but it is not very convenient to make long-distance observations of horizontal light far from the surface of the Earth, so we don't have a huge amount of data to draw conclusions from. Intuitively, though, it would be strange for a universal law to depend on the position of the Earth at any given moment in time.

Were such variance to be detected, we would probably need to rename the Bishop constant to the Bishop parameter.

Thanks for that.  Was just wondering wether or not EA was considered like RE gravitation and varied with distance from a body.  Sounds like the current view is no.

Science & Alternative Science / Re: Size of the Sun

I'd say the sun is about 50 miles across, and maybe 100,000 feet in the air(lowest point or obviously it would engulf us). Eyeball estimate

Those sneaky bastards on Blue Origin.  They flew twice as high as the sun and then hid all the pictures of looking down on it.  Captain Kirk's an asshole.

The question remains, why on Earth would Trump fight so hard to hold onto these documents?

Is he really this fucking stupid or was he trying to commit treason?

He a fucking petulant child.  He thinks they're his.  He doesn't think anyone should be able to take them away from him.  Because he feels they're his he sees no crime in his possesion or use of them.  With apologies to 2 year olds everywhere, he's the emotional capacity of a 2 year old.

Whether Trump's supporters will be taken in yet again by this latest Trump con game, or whether it will be a bridge to far even for them, remains to be seen.

Imagine still being gullible enough to be a Trump  defender/supporter.

Should someone making $124k per year really get $10k of their debt paid off? Does it make sense to contribute so much aid towards the sector of America that is, in general, the most well off?
And I think we've answered that question.
Don't believe I've disagreed with that here.

I never had student loans.  Part of that fortunate timing and good luck thing.  I was able to work my way through school without having to borrow money to pay for it
My other son is on his way to being obscenely wealthy but he's more around the median household level currently.  I'm guessing it will take him another 5+ years before he's obscenely wealthy.  He did have student loans which he paid off reasonably quickly.
Then I don't know why we're having this conversation.

Well, like I said, I was trying to figure out what Rushy's real view on wealth is.  The idea of what is considered wealth is an interesting concept.  I guess it is a digression from the topic at hand but the subject kinda came out of the discussion as sometime happens on forums and I'm fine with returning to lurking moar.

37
You know.  I was having kinda a mediocre day.  Imagine my change in attitude when I discovered I was "obscenely wealthy."

Funny thing is, my MAGA, Trump loving, anti-vaxer, covid denier sister-in-law once told my wife we make too much money.  Guess she was right after all.
Nice brag, mate. But it was pretty obvious given how defensive you've been. Just imagine how we feel if you feel like this even after making more than twice the median HOUSEHOLD income in the US.

Are you struggling to pay off your student loans?

Not being defensive.  If someone wants to label me as wealthy that's fine.  Just having a little discussion.  Trying to figure out what Rushy believes being wealthy actually means.  That's why I asked him what he thinks a wealthy person can afford to do.  That to me is a more meaningful indicator than some arbitrary financial line.  I've actually never thought about where I'd draw the line as to what wealthy is.  Though I don't consider myself wealthy (to Rushy's point some will) I could perhaps be persuaded to change my perception.  I'm well aware of how nice I have it, and how fortunate I am to be where I'm at and if not wealthy I'm definitely comfortably well off. I'm a product of fortunate timing, some good luck, mostly good decisions, a decent work ethic, and a slight modicum of intelligence.

I do find the idea that anyone making $40,000 a year in the U.S. is "wealthy" quite laughable and I'm quessing most others do as well.  If we're playing Family Feud and the question is "How much does someone have to make a year to be wealthy?" $40K isn't going to be on the board.  That being said, $125K might though I think the lowest answer would be higher.  $40K is about where my son's at and I can't wait to see his reaction when I tell him he's wealthy.  My other son is on his way to being obscenely wealthy but he's more around the median household level currently.  I'm guessing it will take him another 5+ years before he's obscenely wealthy.  He did have student loans which he paid off reasonably quickly.

@Rushy

Forgetting all the mean income stuff for a moment.

What must an individual be able to afford to do for you to consider them wealthy?

40
I use a much more simple approach: if you make more than the median salary in your state, you're wealthy. T

So any individual making over $33,000/yr. where I live is wealthy.  I'm guessing more than a few individuals are disconnected from Rushy reality.

Yes, that's still true. If you live in a very low cost of living (or generally just plain poor state), then making some amount more than the median means you are making more than the majority of people in the state. If we don't define wealth as "more than most people", how exactly do we define it? Is "wealthy" just the top 5%? The top 1%? Is only 10 people on the planet wealthy and the rest are broke?

Which goes to my original statement.  "Wealthy" is quite subjective.  You telling someone who makes $40K a year that they're "wealthy" surely would elicit the response that you are "utterly disconnected from reality."
