I'll get this rolling with its own thread. I suggested that if we want more traffic we should make a video that links back to this site and start posting it around.
So far we have Pizza Planet willing to edit the video.
Thork (or possibly Crudblud) can do the voice over.
And Spoon offered to provide background music.
Maybe we could work on the script together here. Now what kind of video should this be? Should this video describe the FES as a whole and the movement up until this point?
-
Great idea. Moving to S&C since it is such a great suggestion.
-
This is a wonderful idea. The vid should also include a brief overview of some basic points in FET as well as dispel any misconceptions the general public may have about the FES, such as religious affiliation.
-
I suggest for a title "*LEAK* *RARE* *NEW* *GIRLS KISSING* flat earth society" to maximise veiw potential.
-
What about a video version of a debunk of the Minute Physics video noobs like to post?

That could also work, but it should come after the initial video. The more videos the more traffic.

Ooh I reley like that idea we should come out with an oficiel video!!! :D Good luck on this and im here if any help is needed we must spred FET to the literel ends of the earth!

We should first make a transcript and/or story board sketches and run it past the community to discuss.

Agree.
We need to prioritize content and try to set some timeframes when we can have them done. I fear that if we try too many things at once, we won't end up producing enough content.
-
I suggest we simply have crudblud/thork explain the theory at a basic level while an animation of his narrations plays. We should all write up a brief summary of flat earth theory in our own words and post it here to compare. Whichever we like the best will be what crudblud/thork reads. I'm assuming PP (?) will create the animation.
So for now, let's all get started summarizing FET in an entertaining way. Personally, I don't think we should include a single thing about RET in this video. We shouldn't go into the conspiracy or explain how FET compares to RET. We want this video to be bold. If viewers, get mad about it, good. That means they'll come to the site and post.
-

I can't really do animation. I'm fairly good at video editing, and I can do simple graphical design, but I can't draw.
-
Are we going for an animation? If not, what will the video consist of?
-
I think an animation of some sort would probably be best. Heck, I could probably try to do it. I'm just a bit worried that I'd fail miserably.
-
I don't think animation is necessary, someone explaining the basics at a chalk board or paper easel would be informative. Having a real person talking would be nice. He/ she could show the website on the video. Animation seems like it would be harder to produce than a plain old video recording of a live person. Rooster would be a good person to do the video (she is closest thing we have to a FE fox)
On the other hand, what person would want to put their self up as a FE believer to the world. Animation may be the way to go.

I reley like that idea hoppy. Ive always loved those comerciels where someone will be explaning something like writing about it in a board and quickley drawing animations (like the glass is half full/emptey comerciel)
On a side note rooster is a girl? And whats an FE fox

A person (Crudblud or Thork) could use their voice in the video without compromising their anonymity.
I was thinking an animation in the style of Minute Physics (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Af0_vWDfJwQ). We would need to write a script, have one person record it, and then have another artsy type draw the animations.

That's basically what I was thinking too. Minute physics videos are interesting. They get the point across and it's fun to watch. Add in a voice like Crudblud's and we'll go viral.

What does crudbluds voice sound like?
-
I think there should be an American voice in the video. Not mine, though.

No, Crudblud's voice is amazing. Thork's is a bit feminine, but acceptable.
-
I mean to complement Crudblud. I've heard his awesome readings
-
I am not enough of an authority to be in the video. The only thing I could possibly do is model shirts if we ever make those. But I'm not much of a fox just pretty average.
-
I don't care if its crudblud's or mine. I'm happy to do it.
If you like, we can both do it and you guys can pick the one you think suits the video the best. Its not like its going to take very long if I'm just reading from a script.

You what, mate? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHNfvJc99YY)
On a more serious note, I was thinking I could work on a short intro we could use in our videos consistently. Something like the first 8 seconds of this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyRJZbNmC7U). Do people think this would be a good idea?

Its a very good idea.

You are the closest thing we have to a resident fox. If you were in the video it would at least prove that not all of the internet is guys. A good looking girl would spark more interest than any guy will. At least a small clip in the video promoting FE, would probably do wonders. That is if you don't mind putting yourself out there on the net.
-
I agree with it being an animation with no actual person in the video. Those are simply much more interesting to most of the internet, I think, whereas showing an actual person with a chalkboard is probably going to look comparatively amateur and kinda shoddy. Think slightly grainy, poor acoustics (almost definitely) that makes it seem filmed by some student for a school project...which is really just more a case of I doubt Rooster has professional recording equipment.
Whereas with a smaller animation and simply a voice-over, all we really need is an animator and a good microphone (which Crudblud might have, I don't know?).
Another important thing, I think, that a lot of people overlook, is that we should make sure to check the voice-over first. Moreso if Thork does it—no offense, it's just that Crudblud seems more like he'd be more inclined towards professional-sounding readings. I'd done acting and voice-over stuff in school for years, so I get overly critical about this stuff and get really upset with amateur readings where it's clearly from a script. :P

I agree with all of this.

You could donate both your kidneys, but I'm still not sure we'd want them. :P
Do you have any talents we can use? Can you draw? Animate? design? Write? Oh wait, no you can't write.
We need to build our repository up. Are you good with google? We need flat earth sources and materials. Anything unusual about our history or flat earth theory is welcomed. We have the basics covered so we need the more rare links and info.

You know the things we are trying to acheive. If you can help, we will be grateful for that help.

I don't even have a board of any kind to write on. I'm definitely not going to be the face of the FES, I'm here for the community. There's no way I was going to be in a video.
-
Yeah, that'd be a big responsibility anyway...you'd be the national face, people would refer to and think of you whenever thinking about the Flat Earth Society at all. :P
-
I'm assuming there are others with a good mic, but I could try the reading as well. I have a good mic and I have a pretty dynamic voice, of course not comparable to Crudbluds or Thorks :P, but I'll try it if need be.

I don't think we should restrict membership to black people from the Americas, it seems a bit racist.

I completely forgot this thread existed. My microphone is not exactly high end, but it is clean enough with the right settings. As for the voice-over coming across scripted, it's not just the reading but the text itself that heavily influences this, if it's clunky and unnatural even the best orator (which I am certainly not) is going to have a bad time with it, so I would also like to volunteer my services as a script doctor. I don't want to get in on anyone else's part in this project, but I can do words good and I have a feeling we might end up with some "data node" type sentences which will need to be parsed into more fluid language to come out at all "naturally."
-
I would be very happy with that, actually. Having the same person who's speaking it actually put it into their words would help that greatly. What kind of approach are we going for and how do we want to come off, exactly?
-
I agree. Make it sound natural.
-
Hows proces been going on the video so far?
I agree. Make it sound natural.
Agreed. I always find it wierd when they put a robo robot voice in a video
-
There should be real world references, and Satire
-
Let's (try to) get the ball rolling again...

I think it should be something informative and humorous, balanced so that the humour is a way into the meat of the presentation, rather than a comedy routine based on FET. But we should be aiming high, instead of settling for some cheesy "edutainment" kind of thing, unless of course we do it in a kind of postmodern way where it's part of the comic element. That's just my preference, hopefully others will have suggestions too.
Also man-bear-man's idea is a good one. Reference humour, even if it's just aiming for "oh hey, I've heard of that," is a good way to break the ice in something like this.
-
a good way to break the ice wall in something like this.
olololol fixed
On a more serious note, I think the best start would be a video that introduces the Society, without necessarily getting into the meat of the subject. The main purpose would be to attract people to the site. We could then focus on short videos on isolated subjects, or maybe something general.

I agree. I think it should be a minute long reading of a general overview of the society and theory with site info at the end. No questions should really be answered in the video. That's what this site is for.
-
And I'll write the script.

This is a good way to insure that no questions will be answered.
