AMD has a good upgrade.  Didn't break my bank too hard but I had to upgrade everything minus the graphics card and power.
Does it? I mean, I have a Ryzen already.
The Ryzen 5000 series is a different animal than, say, the 3000 series. Much of a bigger leap than 3000 to 4000. Zen3 architecture is a huge improvement. AMD is out-innovating Intel quite a bit as of late.

Another way to say it is #1 - scientific method works, #2 scientific method either can't be applied of fails to prove.
Ok, well now all you've done is describe the difference between science and faith, but with lots and lots of words to obfuscate, and with significant muddying of otherwise relatively clear waters. That's nothing new, and it's a DRAMATIC deviation from the first "there's science, and then there's 5G conspiracy" kind of position you started with.

Moving on though. What exactly is this deep and profound realization supposed to help illuminate? What is the point of this exercise to categorize things taken on evidence versus those taken on faith? Help me understand what inspired you to use so many words to say this.

It doesn't matter that you wrote that religion belongs in category 2. Look at how you wrote it. Your revised category 1 still has the same problem. Religion has long been a place where a person's accepted conventional facts were first taught to them. We're talking thousands of years. That's the flaw you have in trying to frame things in the way you are going about it. Religion, as it has been practiced historically throughout the history of humanity, is not an entirely personal thing. It's a group experience. People gather together, read texts from the same book, listen to someone tell them whatever lesson that book is supposed to teach them during this particular gathering, participate in rituals together, and they do so "knowing" that the facts they are learning about their god and their religion are true. These are deeply held beliefs, considered to be truths in most cases, and have been around longer than modern science by millennia. That's category 1 based on how you are laying things out.

FE started thousands of years ago, Rowbotham over a hundred years ago. Where is the FE map with constant scale, correct size, distance, and direction? Science took a long time to advance before printing press, phone, tv, internet. If the earth is flat, there should be huge errors all over the place, easy to point out.
This doesn't exactly seem relevant to the topic at hand, and seems more like moving the goalposts to a more comfortable place to continue talking down about something you don't agree with. Your topic is about categorizing "truth" and now you want to get into the weeds about FE and maps?

Quote
Per you, should be easy to explain, but you are stuck with "conspiracy" and "we haven't figured it out yet."
Per me? I honestly have no idea what you are talking about. What did I say that makes you respond with something indicating that I implied anything like you are asserting? Genuine ask here. Please point me to the post.

This is a really low-effort false dichotomy. It places things like new discoveries firmly in camp #2, and turns all those people that worked on helping show the Higgs Boson is more than a theoretical construct into faith-serving conspiracy theorists. At least, until their discovery is properly communicated to the masses, and subsequently hopefully accepted. And the problem is even bigger for major framework breakthroughs, like GR or QM, where the span of time from concept to model to tested model to model-widely-accepted-as-more-precise-than-the-orthodox-model is usually pretty drawn out. And further, it also would place religion in camp #1 in a large portion of the world. And despite you trying to hedge your statement at the very end of point 1, it really doesn't prevent this problem from materializing with your categories. All areas of discovery and advancement are recategorized as "faith" by your hot take here.

Your categories are more correctly labeled "Things that are determined by observation" and "Things that are not determined by observation." And I don't think it's useful at all in the way you described.

Eating organic food isn't part of being a shaman.
I don't take issue with your declaration that he's being a big baby. But I think the statement above is heavily in "it really depends" world. The whole deal with being a shaman is having what you believe to be a very strong connection to nature and the land, and a sort of balance with eating what you need in a way that is in keeping with your place in nature. The fact that this guy is out very much attention-seeking and shit-stirring leads me to believe that he's probably not very well steeped in shamanic culture at all though, and is just running with an identity that was more or less thrust upon him because he was dressing like a weirdo and someone probably said "hey look at that shaman-looking guy saying all the crazy stuff over there!"

But here's where I guess I could see where the judge is coming from. If you're going to say "I don't believe this particular person is genuine in their plea for consideration based on religious needs," you best be prepared to litigate exactly where that line is, because the appeals are going to come in hot and fast, and it's going to be not just that person's lawyers now, but human rights attorneys that are chomping at the bit to make a big spectacle about the religious persecution that their new client is being made the victim of.

In short, fuck this guy in particular, but there are almost certainly other people that consider themselves shamans and believe it is their moral and religious obligation to eat organically.

126
Everything I've seen seemed to indicate it was more of a religious preference than anything else, because he claims to actually follow Shamanism and part of his belief is that he must eat organic food.

I don't think it's fair because Pete didn't 'extend logic' or ponder what I might have meant.  He stated, very clearly and definitively that I said those things. Where did I say what minorities I liked or didn't?  Nothing in his reply had anything to do with what I said here.

To be clear, I don't think there is a FE Pope or FE President, I don't think you all want to destroy the COVID vaccine.

I am stating a simple fact that people who have one conspiracy theory they follow usually have more.  I opposed your response because I disagree that someone believing in one conspiracy has nothing to do with them believing in another.  That him being a Flat Earther was a complete coincidence, and not because it's common for people to follow multiple conspiracies.
This is ridiculous. Why can't you actually respond to what I said? Why do you insist on reinterpreting and then responding to your own reinterpretation? What I clearly was pointing out was that just because someone believes in one conspiracy, that doesn't mean that the membership of said conspiracy should be assumed to automatically endorse every other conspiracy that person also believes in, because those two things are not logically linked in that way. You are twisting things, and at this point it's hard to see it as anything other than intentional because this has already been pointed out to you.

You don't think your response to what I actually said was poorly informed? Ok. Noted. But it was still a very poor take, despite whatever other personal drama you have with Pete.

Pete's reply wasn't responding to anything I said in this thread as far as I can see.

All I said before Pete jumped in was two sentences, neither of which mentioned Christianity or minorities I like or dislike or who can and can't be 'critically evaluated' whatever that means.

My response is simply that people who believe in one conspiracy theory are likely to believe in others.  As you yourself stated, people tend to not limit themselves to one crazy idea at a time.  Am I wrong?
Why are you refusing to deal with the content of what I said and trying to reframe the argument still?

Edit to add: Pete's reply was just an extension of your own logic that you exercised against my post. Yet for some reason you don't think it was fair. Isn't that a little odd? Maybe try dealing with the content instead of trying to build a different position to argue against. You opposed my response, essentially saying my reply demonstrated that FE should take ownership of whatever crazy thing anyone says who also happens to believe in FE. But when that logic is turned around, you seem to need to deflect and avoid. Why is that?

Just for fun, try turning the argument around. There are also people that are RE that are all for keeping the vaccine out of people's veins, saying wild things like it's got 5G communication abilities and will control your mind, and putting up circuit diagrams of what they think the 5G modem design is in the vaccine, and it's really a circuit diagram of a guitar effects pedal. It would be equally unreasonable and dishonest to suggest that Big RETM endorses that kind of mentality.

Why would "FE" endorse sabotaging the vaccine? Those are two completely unrelated issues. And that's to say nothing of the fact that FE is more of a concept than a construct. There's no all-encompassing set of beliefs, they don't have a Watchtower periodical to rally people around or an FE Pope to say what the direction of the movement should be or an FE President to set a governing agenda. Some crazy person acted like a crazy person. Lo and behold, said crazy person has more than just one untraditional idea rattling around in his head. It's silly to suggest is anything bigger than that.

You answered your own question here.  They are not unrelated issues, but are related just as you stated, "said crazy person has more than just one untraditional idea rattling around in his head".
No. That doesn't in any way mean that "FE" would endorse that kind of thing. You're reframing things.

It's humorous that a drug as 'soft' as marijuana is still restricted so heavily here, even if it isn't heavily policed. Lots of people don't really care about the issue either. I think in the very least it should be legalized for medical use.

Next up, MDMA..

What sucks, even more, is oil and edibles are still classed like heroin and coke.   A serious felony for a plant extract
You do realize that heroin and coke are also plant extracts, right? I agree that having cannabis oil, or products containing it like edibles, shouldn't be a felony. But the "it's just a plant extract" kind of argument runs into some obstacles. Heroin and cocaine are both basically just alkaloid extracts from poppy and coca plants, respectively.

So reading that link, it appears a Q-faction has broken off that now believes that Biden is Q. That is just... I don't even know the right word. It's hard to fathom the amount of misplaced faith it must take to keep the true believers going.

Great speech President Biden is giving at the inauguration.
If he keeps up that kind of performance, I think he just might be president one day!

Flat Earth Theory / Re: Flat earth test

The problem you run into is that your suggested method of testing doesn't yield the result you think it does. It would have been more fun to address this in the thread you already started, but you decided to start a new one so here we are.

How close to the starting point do you think you'll end up on a globe, and how close to the starting point do you think you'll end up on a FE? Let's start there. Keep your 100km-per-leg-of-journey assumption.

For added fun, after you think about this assuming you start at a pole, think about how it might work out if you start at the Equator, or in Boulder CO, or Sydney Australia. What if you shrink the distance to 10km, or 1km, or 100m? Is it different in any of those locations/situations? Why or why not?

In other news, Lin Wood is now making it clear that he's gone off the deep end.

https://www.rawstory.com/attorney-lin-wood/

This man has the president's ear.

there's not enough dirt in the world to make someone rape and shoot a child on video...  this guy is off the rails.
You misunderstand.
The rape and shooting IS the dirt.
They basically force someone to rape and shoot a child on camera then use that as blackmail.

Also read the comments.

One lady suggests that 8 billion children go missing a year. XD
And until every single one of those children are found, you can't possibly dispute that number! On a more serious note, this is some next-level bat shat insanity. It really is amazing how far into a rabbit hole you can lead a large group of people. If nothing else, psychologists should be writing text books and teaching courses on what can be learned about this as it relates to manipulating the masses.

Soul (2020)

Good movie. Off the chains visuals and music. You will probably cry unless you are a sociopath. Still nowhere near Pixar's best works like Coco.
They really nailed the whole "In the zone" thing. They made it look the way it feels in a way I don't think I've seen in a movie before. And Jon Batiste's playing was perfect for what they were doing.

Did the latest stimulus require we all get crack and pipes like the Hunt? I want my free dope and a couple million tax free bucks.
Well the thing is, it's part of this whole social welfare thing, so it's probably best you don't actually cash the check.
