And how do you stop all your customers registering as devs?

Please learn something about how Debian works organisationally before making comments like this. You don't simply "register" as a developer.

How do you make money out of a community that wants everything for free?

Irrelevant.

They're giving free access to all their games to Debian Developers, and apparently discussing other ways of giving back to the community.

They should be pushing code back. That's contributing.

That's one way of contributing, yes.

My drivers give poor fps. :(

Irrelevant.

But what video card and what driver are you using?

Technology & Information / Valve offers free games to Debian Developers
« on: January 22, 2014, 07:26:48 PM »
Looks like Valve is interested in contributing back to Debian, which is what they're basing their new console platform SteamOS on:

https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2014/01/msg00006.html

They're giving free access to all their games to Debian Developers, and apparently discussing other ways of giving back to the community.

This is really great news, particularly as certain well-known vendors have a history of leveraging open-source projects while giving back as little as possible. It looks like Valve is actually interested in cooperating with the Linux community, which is only going to make Steam run even better on Linux.

The rest of the site's pages worked, but the forum page said it was an invalid url and gave me some kind of reference code.

If it happens again, please record the actual error message, or take a screenshot of the page. As it is, it's impossible to diagnose from your description.

Are you able to provide any more specific detail?

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Re: What is the best way to be happy?
« on: January 16, 2014, 05:55:00 PM »
What makes me happy varies substantially based on my mood, the situation and the company, and is liable to (and often does) change abruptly from day to day, hour to hour or even minute to minute. This has been exacerbated lately as I've been going through a relapse of my depression from a few years back, which makes me even more prone to wild changes of mood and general extremes.

Just doing what I want doesn't always work, because sometimes I'll want to eat half a kilogram of chocolate for no particular reason, and then I'll feel like shit from all the sugar. However, sometimes refraining from indulging makes things even worse because I then have the urge to do something that just doesn't go away.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I have no fucking clue.

How do you stuff a bitcoin in a stripper's g-string?

You could start by encoding bitcoins into your haploid DNA, and let things progress naturally from there.

Suggestions & Concerns / Re: Can I have an email account/forwarder?
« on: January 16, 2014, 11:08:24 AM »
Yes. If you just want a forwarder, PM me the address to forward to. I can set up a separate mail account if needed, but that's probably overkill for this purpose.

Yes, this seems like a good idea. I'll be getting back to Sydney tomorrow, so I can work on it then.

Technology & Information / Re: Windows 8.1 update

But the market did not die. It merely split in half. There are people that generate content and people that absorb content. If you want to absorb content, you get a tablet. Light, easy to use, made for idiots. But if you want to make something, you need a PC.

No.

I'd do both but I'd make sure I finished inside Carrie Fisher.

Funny you should mention that, I found a picture of you and her together:

Get a laptop for generating content (MS office, visual studio, whatever it is you do on a laptop that can't be done on a tablet)

When I did exactly this, you told me to get a tablet.

I think you just like telling people they're wrong.

Science & Alternative Science / Re: Sleep Cycles
« on: January 12, 2014, 03:18:33 PM »
My sleep cycle got so broken that I don't even really have a well-defined cycle anymore. I occasionally stick to a temporary one when I really do need to be up at a certain time, but even then it's a struggle. It's kind of fucked.

Announcements / Re: The Flat Earth Society Manifesto, version 1
« on: January 12, 2014, 12:04:32 PM »
I have updated the Manifesto to remove pizaaplanet's real name, at his request. This does not constitute a new version of the Manifesto, it is a short-term modification to protect user privacy, in accordance with clause 6 of the Manifesto.

The ONLY thing that messes up OS booting is the UEFI if it doesn't have your OS's digital signature and you have secure boot enabled.

Not necessarily.

Does one of the new Council members want to write up a blog post about the newly formed Council? I will then publish it on the homepage, with your name (real name or username; your choice) as credit.

Yet, FF embraces HTML5, Silverlight, and every other type of media transmission available.

You really don't know what you are talking about, but this discussion has no place in Announcements. If you'd like to continue turning this into a technical discussion, please create a thread in T&I.
