Chile vs. Brazil was a pretty great watch. Down to the very last PK.

Chile were so close to coming away with that game.  I'm a little disappointed that they didn't pull off that upset.

USA looked really solid first half, then fell apart the 2nd, and it broke down in extra time.  Tim Howard is a baller, though.

I met a very drunk American in a bar tonight. He was an obnoxious twat. I nearly knocked him out in the toilets.

He was on about the Belgium game, and I said there was no shame in losing to the Belgians. They are a very good team. And that the USA would get better at soccer as more people in the US became interested in it. And he flipped out. "Soccer? Its football. Don't patronise me. I know what football is. I want to punch people who say soccer to me. Do you want to be punched?"

He is lucky that even when I am drunk I'm very good natured. I looked at him to see if he was going to punch me. The bar was virtually empty and I was thinking how I might smash his face into the toilet bowl repeatedly if he tried anything. No one was going to come to his rescue.

I just said "I think we'll leave it there" and made for the door. He looked relieved. But I'd had enough beer to make me cross the line. He was about 5' 6" and 50 years old. Out of shape and incredibly drunk. If it wasn't such a mismatch I'd have taught him some British manners. You don't fucking talk to me when I'm having a piss! >o<

I just wish they had been a bit more aggressive and created more offense.  Howard was like a brick wall today, I swear I thought he had a 10 foot arm span.

The entire anecdote can be summed up by this one rule, regardless of context.

Germany beat France, as expected.

Of course Brazil is going to take it seriously. Football was the only thing they had.

Now they have nothing.
