All the data we have about exoplanets shows our cosmos is an inhospitable sewer. The Drake equation with solve showing one civilization per galaxy.

Aliens aren't real but they do make awesome clickbait

This is just 21st century geocentrism.

Really until we've actually seen some kind of proof they exist aliens are nothing better than speculative fiction.

So were exoplanets until the 1990s. And they are huge and easier to spot than aliens would be. Aliens exist because that's the boring, expected option.

I finally got the 64GB version and put a 400GB micro sd card in it. It's my favorite handheld now, surpassing even my beloved Game Boy Advance of yore. The only big downside is that it's one hungry bastard in terms of power. I only get maybe 1.5 - 2 hours of play time on Teardown for example.

I dunno, Putin is still saying he'll totally start a nuclear war. Postponing it while giving him time to grow stronger (regardless of whether he squandered it) doesn't seem to have worked out so far.

That’s part of the Russian hybrid warfare doctrine. They want to be seen as the unhinged crazy people who could fire off a nuke just for looking at them funny. They’ve built an entire narrative around it that a lot of people have bought. They want to get as much value out of their arsenal as humanly possible without actually using it.

According to the latest publicly available intelligence reports, it’s been business as usual for the world’s strategic forces.

Maybe for investing and farming. But most diversity you see in the world is merely superficial. People will always segregate themselves by cultural background and social status.

As I said in the Trump thread, Republicans and high-profile, mainstream conservatives insult and slander Democrats, Democratic voters, working-class people, and people who simply live in Democratic areas all the time. It's not just Trump; it's a ton of Republicans that do it, and they do it regularly. Here's Ted Cruz just the other day:

Even though there was some deserved backlash to this comment, you probably didn't hear about this on the news. It's partially because the mainstream media is numb to the general level of crudeness from Republicans by now, and it's partially because they've enabled the major double standard that Democrats are the ones who have a problem with insulting and disrespecting their fellow Americans, despite the fact that the vast majority of insults, abuse, and lies come from the other side of the aisle. It's why we still hear about how upset Republicans were by Hillary's "deplorables" comment and how it was such a huge gaffe that it cost her the election and why can't Democrats learn from it and blah blah blah, while Republicans and Fox News continuing to talk about how Democrats are pedophiles and are currently burning down major cities goes unchallenged. The same thing applies in this case. There is nothing that Biden said in his speech that wasn't considerably more measured, nuanced, and factual than the torrent of abuse Republicans regularly pour on Democrats and the residents of Democrat-run areas. Yes, Trumpism is a threat to American democracy. Trump and his followers want to put themselves in power and pass laws to ensure they'll never lose power. They look towards Hungary under Viktor Orbán as a model for what America should be. That is a disastrous, fundamentally anti-democratic, and yes, fascist agenda to pursue, and it deserves to be called out for what it is. If that offends you, then you deserve to be offended.

It's progressives and woke culture that are at fault for riling people up to vote for Trump. We'd have our electric cars and renewable energy goals on track to being met if it wasn't for the whole anti-white crusade that progressives have been propagating for the last several years. They tried to change the culture too quickly.

The years they revolutionized society were from 1900-1950's. Radio, television, telephone, automobile, airplane, automated manufacturing, home appliances, all came together to fundamentally revolutionize civilization in a very extraordinary way that far overshadows anything that came after. I can hardly say the same about the internet and video games.

I'm pretty sure we'd all be better off just being farmers, hunters and crafters.

How do these practically zombified 70-80 year olds conduct political business? It's something I've been wondering for a long time. When my grandmother was 75, she was getting too old to do even basic tasks like cooking meals. Now we have mfs in office in the US that are 80+. How do they even travel the world, talk to high ranking officials in other countries and still do their duties that 40-50 year olds would probably get winded by? Are they just like avatars with aides that do literally everything for them behind the scenes? Maybe we should get some younger peeps in there who are a lot less likely to go into cardiac arrest at any moment.

I could give you some pointers in being successful in chess, Zork or an IT/technology career but not controls designed to pay Steam hosted games.  Maybe you should get out more.  Play golf, ride a dirt bike, hike in national parks, ski, take nature pictures, swim, fuck chicks, pick wild mushrooms, hunt, go fishing, mow the lawn, eat at the 'Y', build an 8-bit computer, race a vehicle, design an analog acquisition interface, repair the footings in a cottage,  re-furbish classic computers, tile a floor, drywall a ceiling, wire a basement, do some plumbing, smoke a brisket,  build a raised deck, design your own fucking gamer dude interface, weld up a motorcycle trailer, build a race bike, convert a ramp-back utility trailer into a long term toy hauler, create a water system controller for people on low production well systems, manage a staff of 250 people, make a tiny little dent in the world ..

Maybe not.

Go play "V Rising".

That all sounds like a lot of work. I think I'll pass, but thanks for the suggestions dad.

So, Valve has finally come up with some decent hardware. I reserved one the day they were open for preorders, and then canceled it a few weeks later because I started to worry that if a joystick broke it would render the entire Deck useless. Now that people have been getting them and posting repair/modification videos, it turns out they are very repairable. And now I regret canceling my preorder because the queue to get one is months long. Does anyone have one?

Americans are too dumb to drive 90. British people probably are too. The case for 90 might be made if you're a good driver and have a sports car that can brake and handle very well. But most people over here are driving boat sized SUVs and pickups while talking on their phones.
