Flat Earth Investigations / Let's do ships again
« on: March 05, 2021, 02:19:40 PM »
Round earthers love a ship on the horizon. What do you all make of this one?

This is from a BBC article here.

Let's pull out the juiciest quotes that when we say them, you all think we are crazy.

A bit of bendy light
Quote from: BBC meteorologist David Braine
BBC meteorologist David Braine said the "superior mirage" occurred because of "special atmospheric conditions that bend light".

A bit of looking out of your window and refusing to believe your own eyes
Quote from: Mr Morris
Mr Morris said he was "stunned" after capturing the picture while looking out to sea from the hamlet of Gillan

Objects appearing both above and below a horizon having absolutely nothing to do with earth being round
Quote from: BBC meteorologist David Braine
"Superior mirages can produce a few different types of images - here a distant ship appears to float high above its actual position, but sometimes an object below the horizon can become visible."

So ... next time I get presented with something like

You are going to receive a short response ... "superior mirages" or in the case of that Toronto image 'inferior mirage". I suggest we cobble a wiki page together on inferior and superior mirages. I'm dead sick of images of mirages on horizons being lauded as proof of roundness.

Technology & Information / Mirrorless Camera
« on: February 11, 2021, 10:46:19 PM »
So I just bought a new camera.

A Cannon M200. Cost me around £500. No, I'm not going to be come a titty streamer!  >o<

Going to sound weird, but I got it as my new ... phone.

In a world where we seem to do increasingly more zoom calls and team meetings and skype calls etc ... I may as well look good doing them. I've got a job interview coming up next week so it'll get its first proper work out then, but I'll use it for calls to my nephews, calling my mother, my brother, some of my more tech savvy mates etc.

I've never owned a proper camera. I realise this is entry level, but it's a world away from the potato cam built into my laptop. Anyway, its on order. I'll report back when Amazon delivers it.

Technology & Information / No more reviews
« on: February 09, 2021, 04:33:12 PM »
Well, that's the last time I ever leave a review on Amazon or google or anywhere else.

Man to pay £25,000 damages over negative TrustPilot review

So ... surely a number of things have to happen.

1) Trustpilot need to step in to pay the man's legal costs. Otherwise no one will leave reviews for fear of being sued and they don't have a business any more.
2) The judges need to have a little think about the fall out of such a ruling. this seems like terrible law making.
3) People like Amazon need to change their TOS to state anyone selling on their platform can't sue their customers for leaving crappy reviews.

This is one of those small pages news stories that gets overlooked but I think will end up having enormous ramifications. They just set the president ... you can sue people for painful amounts of money for leaving a bad online review if a judge finds that review to be unfair. Surely if the only benefit of leaving a review is feeling helpful and the potential downside is now a £25,000 fine ... you stop leaving reviews?

Suggestions & Concerns / Fix unsubscribe
« on: January 17, 2021, 03:54:39 PM »
The unsubscribe feature is great. But it doesn't work in CN.

Example .... Computers > muscles

It has descended into another mindless quote tree where people with more fingers than teeth, will quote the above post ad nauseam. And fine. But I don't want to be notified every time that they do. This is the point I usually unsubscribe from a post and take my fivehead opinions and razor like wit to another thread where I can be screamingly funny and informative there instead.

Could you please add the missing unsubscribe button to CN please?

Well there's no easy way to say this. Sometimes I frequent horrible parts of the internet. This place being one of them, but Twitch being another.

Now, I'm not going to bore you with my latest titty streamer fantasy, but a relatively new channel has appeared and frankly, its really fucking good.

So a little Asian woman who lives in LA has coded a virtual version of herself. She uses unreal engine to place herself in a game world, does her textures on Maya, uses an xsens suit to do all her movement tracking, she has facial recognition ... the whole thing is really clever. Now vtubers aren't new, but they usually look like cartoon characters. She doesn't. She looks way better.

I have a feeling this type of technology is going to be very mainstream soon. Even things like call centres might use it to place their virtual reps in lavish cyber offices. Anyhoo, I just thought from a technical standpoint, some of you might enjoy watching because she's the first one of what I predict will be thousands and thousands of virtual 3d streamers in the future and I reckon she's the next Dr Disrespect on Twitch.

Flat Earth Investigations / Thork's Jack Russell challenge
« on: September 16, 2020, 05:52:06 PM »
Hold fire mods ...

First I want to set the mood. Click the video below and get it running. You are in Dr David Thork's private library and I'm conducting some studies.

^Go on, click it. Immerse yourself in the goodness of the thread to come.

Excellent. So, I'm studying how if a mainstream lie is told often enough ... it becomes a fact. Let's take gravity as a fact. Round earthers revel in being able to produce multiple sources for some thing like gravity. An appeal to popularity. And even if my senses tell me that you are wrong, you won't accept it and will slam citations on me here, here and here.

Thork, I thought you said this thread was about Jack Russells?

I did. Settle down, we are coming to the Jack Russells.

Now my premise is that once a lie is told, it is repeated over and over and over on the internet. No one checks. No one corrects it. An absolute lie can become cast iron fact. Consider ... the fastest dogs in the world.

1) Greyhound (No surprises there).
2) Saluki (Yeah, I've no idea what that is either but seeing a picture of one shakes my confidence).
3) Afghan hound (They have long legs I guess but all that hair ... I'm calling bullshit).
4) Vizsla
5) Ibizan Hound
6) Jack Russell Terrier (that's torn it! There is no way that a shitty little dog like this is the 6th fastest dog on earth. We haven't had lurchers or whippets yet! Actual racing dogs!).
7) Dalmatian
8) Borzoi
9) Whippet
10) Pharaoh Hound

source

So this

is faster than

Its a typo Thork, why are you getting bent out of shape over a single website?

... because its not a single website. Some gas-lighting owner of a Jack Russell puppy farm has propagated the lie that Jack Russell's are racing dogs capable of 38mph!

https://iheartdogs.com/the-top-10-fastest-dog-breeds/
https://www.cheatsheet.com/culture/these-are-the-fastest-dog-breeds-in-the-world.html/
https://wagwalking.com/breed/top-fastest-dog-breeds-in-the-world
https://waggingmongrel.com/the-15-fastest-dog-breeds/
https://thetarpan.com/fastest-dog-breeds/
https://www.thesprucepets.com/fastest-dog-breeds-4842243
https://spoiledhounds.com/fastest-dog-breeds/
https://www.petside.com/fastest-dog-breeds/

Over and over and over again ... this lie that Jack Russell's can outrun a whippet. That they can do 38mph!

Based on round earther logic ... Jack Russell's are one of the fastest dogs on earth. I owned one once. They have little legs and bigger dogs zoom past them at the park.

Despite all my senses telling me a Jack Russell is a shitty little dog, almost every poll has them between 5th and 7th for fastest dog. Feel free to have a google yourself.

So Thork's Jack Russell Challenge. Because this is earth shape agnostic, do some sleuthing and find out where this ridiculous lie about Jack Russell's being one of the fastest dogs on earth comes from. Its obviously nonsense. And then how did it end up all over the internet as a cast iron fact ... Jack Russells ... faster than whippets ... capable of 38 mph.

The winner ... the person who finds the original source for this bizarre and ridiculous piece of science will win my loyalty for 2 weeks. No matter which thread you are in, no matter what you are arguing ... I will agree with you and take your side in the debate.

Now get out of my library!  >o<

Technology & Information / Nvidia buys ARM

My tummy hurts. 🤢

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-54142567

This does not sound good for consumers. Nvidia's ever thirsty shareholders and special approach to pricing makes me nervous. I haven't bought Nvidia in years. I think they are an awful company. Nvidia in almost every mobile device on earth with no choice ... 😭

Neither of us really has any control over where the page breaks. It would be cool if we had a button that would do this [col=12][/col]

And we could change the text as so ...

[col=6][/col][col=6][/col]
[col=4][/col][col=4][/col][col=4][/col]
[col=3][/col][col=3][/col][col=3][/col][col=3][/col]

And we could just change the numbers as we like so I could do something like

[col=9]*Insert a nice image[/col][col=3]*Stick some relevant text next to it.[/col]

It would also be very nice for making OPs and we'd be more or less free of the table monstrosity that is
Code: [Select]
[table]
[tr]
[td][/td]
[/tr]
[/table]

Now I don't think this is as hard as it first seems. It is mostly an exercise in creating a few classes and adding in the css

Code: [Select]
@media (min-width: 768px) {
    .col-6 {
        width: 100%;
        float: left;
    }
}

@media (min-width: 992px) {
    .col-6 {
        width: 50%;
        float: left;
    }
}

@media (min-width: 1200px) {
    .col-6 {
        width: 50%;
        float: left;
    }
}

That kind of thing. Maybe row is important. [row][col=6][/col][col=6][/col][/row] something like that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In the interest of brevity, it would be nice if the forum had a few shortcuts.

Maybe ctrl-s for S&C, ctrl-c for complete nonsense, ctrl-n for a new post, ctrl-r for a quick reply, ctrl-/ for a search. Just underline the letter so we know what is what.

This kind of thing.
https://www.hongkiat.com/blog/keyboard-shortcuts-website/

As most of us are likely quite fast on a computer, moving one's hand to the mouse for every little thing on this website ...  ::)

Well its a suggestion. Do what you like with it.  :)

Arts & Entertainment / Perfumes
« on: July 22, 2020, 04:37:27 PM »
A hobby of mine I've never really talked about on tfes. I like expensive perfumes. For example, right now I'm wearing Panheligan's Endymion Concentre.

Now if you are a dirty peasant that usually goes about smelling of sweat and Axe deodorant, you're not going to know what I'm talking about. But if you are also someone who likes to smell like a god, what do you recommend? Personally I almost always use boutique brands. I don't like fashion brands like Gucci or Ralph Lauren or Polo sport etc. I'm not a Chad.

Oh, and this is in the art section because perfume is made by artisans and its an arty type thing.

Technology & Information / Should I become a console peasant?
« on: July 14, 2020, 06:02:10 PM »
I've always been a PC owner who uses their machine quite a lot. I don't game all that much, but occasionally.

So my current PC is due an update ... if I want to play games.

It's actually fine for work. Has 16gb RAM, RX580 GPU, 4/8 cores Ryzen and 1tb NVMe storage. Oh, and 4k screen. For making websites ... it's more than enough.

For games though ... well I'm think 5700XT with a ryzen 3600 or 4600 if I wait a bit.

Thing is, the new consoles are out soon. PS5 and Xbox Series X. And I'm thinking I could just get a console with a 65" TV and then sit back and chill. Don't need to be sat at my desk to play games.

My understanding is both will be about 5700XT in GPU terms anyway but cost way less. So ... should I just become a console peasant? I'm a pretty casual gamer these days anyway.

I'd want my console to play games, let me watch TV and generally do entertainment. Maybe even naked ladies if the mood takes me.

And if I become a console peasant ... Playstation or Xbox? In my head, they are the same. I know PS gets more sales. Xbox is more PC like. That makes me lean Microsoft ... but thoughts?

Or should I just get a grip of myself and build another PC?

In the black lives matter thread a response was as follows

but when black people get the police called on them for doing nothing there's a problem.

This is a stereotype of black people. The dindu nuffins. Where black people always claim they are not treated the same ... but then you find out the full details, they have not been behaving the same. IE they were resisting arrest but never mentioned that, or they were high on crystal meth, or they did have a large machete on them.

So, I responded to the streotype with the meme (memes are often based on sterotypes). There is no rule that memes are banned on this site. Used on topic and in context, they are fine to use to make a point.

Cool story, bro.

To which the person I engaged in debate then responded
I'm not talking about criminals getting stopped, I'm talking about people being stopped for 'being black while doing this mundane thing' which sadly happens.

EDIT: example;

So ... I'm the OP.
I make a topic about activists protesting police treatment of black people.
I respond to a comment about that treatment showing the stereotype.
The person answers and the conversation continues.

At what point was I off topic?

Quote from: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=dindu%20nuffin
The phrase “dindu nuffin” is derived from a bastardization of the phrase “didn’t do nothing”, a plea for innocence often used in reference to unarmed black men killed by police.
I couldn't be any more on topic.

Please rescind my warning and give your head a wobble. Just because the sensitive nature of the topic may have triggered you, is not a reason to start issuing warnings. If you can't moderate without your own emotions clouding your judgement, you shouldn't be moderating.

I would have just messaged the mod responsible and quietly asked them to be reasonable ... but due to the cowardly way warnings are anonymously issued at TFES, that was not possible.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Black Lives Matter
« on: June 20, 2020, 08:35:11 PM »
... presumably ... to someone.

I have to wonder where this movement is going, how effective it is and what it wants? Usually, activists demand something. What BLM want is anyone's guess.

There have been a lot of narcissistic celebs trying to make it all about them.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-53120390

The lady here claims she was told she couldn't have black skin or have braids. Presumably she has never heard of Beyonce or Tina Turner. Ooooooooorrrrrrr, she's a liar.

Perpetual race-baiter Raheem Sterling has been calling for equality.
https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11679/12008283/black-lives-matter-raheem-sterling-leads-powerful-new-anti-racism-campaign-on-social-media

I'd like equality with Raheem Sterling. He earns around £15.6m per year, plays football for a living, is invited to exclusive events and parties that I could never get into, has a garage full of luxury cars, a huge mansion, pays next to zero tax and can spend his money anywhere he likes and no one ever refuses to provide services and goods to him as that would be illegal. But somehow, Raheem is oppressed.  :'(

When I see people from other cultures ripping down statues and monuments from my culture whilst demanding their's is sacrosanct, it doesn't make me like them more. its not healing any racial divide. When they demand I kneel before them, or that their lives matter and seemingly mine doesn't, it doesn't make me think 'yeah, black people are having a rough time'. When I see them martyr a total piece of shit like George Floyd who is a serial offender and held a gun to a pregnant woman ... not really winning me over.

Black Lives Matter doesn't make me want to listen to the 'reasonable demands' of the black community. It makes me realise how many black people hate white people, resent everything about them, believe whites are born with the original sins of colonialism and slave ownership and that they are the problem and the world would be better off with out them. Black people are allowed to be openly racist and yet I don't have equality. I can't say those kinds of things. I don't have black privilege. And then I look at the absolute crap hole that is Africa and realise black people are full of shit.

Black people have every opportunity. No door is closed to them. They are given preferred treatment for jobs as companies desperately try to hire black people into senior positions, often positions they have no business occupying from a qualification/experience standpoint. Grade barriers are lowered to given them extra opportunities in education, at the expense of more talented white people who must miss out on a place to make room.

And yet they demand more. Their's, a community that commits more crime than any other community, then complains it has the highest incarceration rates. Complaining on one hand it has too much knife crime and demands action, and then complains bitterly about racism when that action is searching black people for knives. A community that outside of professional sports, rarely takes any exercise or eats properly, scream racism when it finds itself more susceptible to a global pandemic. Everything is always a white man's fault, and yet they love living in all the countries white people inhabit. They've no intention of going to Africa to live amongst other wonderful black people.

BLM doesn't make white people less racist. It shows us all the worst traits in blacks.

*clears throat in a glorious attempt to prove how unracist I am*
I have spoken to a few of my black friends about BLM. They say its embarrassing. Black people always playing the victim. And they also agreed black people should "leave white people's shit alone unless they want white people banning all the things black people like such as fried chicken and rap music" ... (my black friends have a sense of humour unlike the c*nts from BLM).

So there you have it. Black Lives Matter ... more than yours does. So spaketh the black community.

What kind of a conspiracy website is this?

I was patiently waiting for someone else to broach the delicate subject of the US using the Covid distraction to casually mention that there are aliens and release some footage of them.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-52457805

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what these things might be if not aliens?
Does anyone care that aliens seem to be visiting at will?
Have we all just accepted aliens a long time ago and this is just run of the mill alien business?

Not sure why the SSL certificate doesn't extend to library.tfes.org, but being as it does extend to both forum.tfes.org and wiki.tfes.org, it's a bit odd.

Needless to say my browser freaks out and informs me that my computer will get coronavirus if I download any of the resources, making me less likely to do so.

The society has a shop.

That shop doesn't make any money. But still, people give money for flat earth goodies. Its a service that is provided. TFES makes no money at all from it. We all understand this.

But in the interest of transparency and general interest, how much stuff gets sold? Could TFES publish a breakdown of the purchases from the shop for 2019, please?

Also, why can't you access the store from the forum menu? That's where most people spend most of their time on this site.

Flat Earth Media / Flat Earth on UK Morning TV
« on: February 11, 2020, 09:24:50 PM »
This morning Mark Sargent (the guy who did the viral youtube video 'flat earth clues') was on 'This Morning' with Holly Willoughby and complete and utter piece of shit, Phillip Schofield. More on him below*.

Sargent didn't do a great job in the interview. And just from a political point of view, saying on British TV that all the Scots hate the English, as an American commentator ... are you an idiot, Sergant?

I found most of his rebuttals to be pretty weak. I was actually quite impressed with Schofield's line of questions. He wasn't just reading from an auto-cue. He'd obviously put in quite a bit of research to formulate his own arguments. I'd argue he was far better prepared for the interview than Sargent.

*Schofield's research into the topic despite the media shitstorm he has whipped up in recent days is quite amazing.
Last Friday Schofield decided to come out as gay. Despite his being married with two kids and being 57 years old and working in the media ... the was heralded as 'brave and courageous'.
On Saturday it was revealed he'd been grooming a 15 year old boy, by the time the kid was 18 he'd got him working on the show as a runner, and has been bumming him for the last 5 years behind his wife's back. Having fallen out, the runner had threatened to tell the media everything forcing cowardly Schofield to out himself to minimise the damage. The mainstream media have not reported any of this. Utter media black out. If you are gay ... you can cheat on your wife and groom children in the UK ... you are untouchable. Meanwhile news anchor Alistair Stewart of the same TV network was fired for Tweeting a line from Shakespeare that a black woman decided could be racist despite his having tweeted it to a white person in the past. Welcome to the Woke Kingdom.  >o<
