Flat Earth Theory / Earth Not A Globe inquiries
« on: December 12, 2017, 04:51:14 PM »
Since Tom and others insist on REers reading it, I am currently reading Earth Not A Globe via the "Library" link.

I must say, I am quite intrigued with the whole thing, given it was written in the 19th century.

I am sure I will have a few questions that arise from reading it, but one popped up for me on page labeled 53.

Rowbotham proposes that one could veritably prove a uni-polar flat earth map by measuring one degree longitude along the 45th parallel south. He goes on to assume that the result would be 20 miles longer than that of one degree longitude along the 45th parallel north. Has anyone done this "experiment" to prove/disprove this notion? I'm sure given the technology we have, it has easily been done, but given that all "modern" longitude measurements are done using global coordinates, this experiment would need to be performed "old school" to satisfy all parties. (Though, honestly, I haven't done any thorough research to find out.)

More to come...

Flat Earth Theory / Distance to the moon
« on: November 22, 2017, 11:08:16 PM »
I understand that FE calculated the distance to the sun via bastardizing Eratosthenes's experiment. How was the distance to the moon calculated in the FE model? How far away is the moon in FET?

Flat Earth Theory / Occam's Razor
« on: November 19, 2017, 02:51:41 PM »
According to the wiki, the Flat Earth theory is favoured by Occam's Razor. The bullet points it makes shows that the page was written with bias (duh!).

I present the counter presentation, allowing all to formulate their own conclusion from the information. My data set shall have the same burden of proof as the wiki.

Regarding gravity: which assumes less: The "plane earth" is accelerating upwards at 9.8 m/s/s by an unknown, unending force; or a "round earth" constrained by a hypothetical construct that seems to apply to observed celestial objects?

Regarding the space hoax: which assumes less: NASA is a government body that, working with *all* government bodies, has perpetuated a space hoax; or NASA, as well as other space organizations, through extensive trial-and-error, has managed to launch terrestrial objects into space.

Regarding Solar movement: which assumes less: A Sun, 31-miles across, 3000 miles high, is traveling on a predetermined path by an unknown force, held in the sky by an equally unknown force; or the earth rotates at a given speed, causing a miniscule observer on the surface to witness a "setting/rising" sun.

Regarding space: which assumes less: all the celestial bodies are stationary, or are set to travel a predetermined path, by an unknown force, being held in the sky by an equally unknown force; or there is a whole universe of celestial bodies operating under similar laws of physics.

Flat Earth Theory / Cold War Space Race
« on: October 03, 2017, 02:07:11 AM »
July 20, 1969 America landed a man on the moon. This event essentially ended the "Space Race" between the USSR and USA.

The Soviets had previously accomplished 5 distinct space travel milestones:
1 First man-made object in space (Sputnik 1)
2 First living creature in space (Sputnik 2 with Laika the dog)
3 First man in space (Vostok 1 with Yuri Gagarin)
4 First woman in space (Vostok 6 with Valentina Tereshkova)
5 First space walk in space (Voskhod 2 with Alexei Leonov)

Why would the Soviets allow America to claim their moon landing milestone with a "faked" landing?

Even if you claim the 5 milestones aren't real, the question still remains, why would USSR allow US to steal their space thunder?

How is it that one side didn't call the other out saying they hadn't gone to space?

The Cold War was all about making the other side look bad. There was no cooperation between the two nations. It was called a Cold War for a reason.

Flat Earth Theory / Korabl-Sputnik I aka "Sputnik IV"
« on: October 02, 2017, 01:14:01 PM »
The Soviets launched a rocket carrying the satellite Korabl-Sputnik I (K-S1) in Baikonur, Kazakhstan in May 1960, a mission planned to last for 4 days.
The reentry rockets failed, causing it to descend in an uncontrolled reentry.
K-S1 eventually crash landed in Manitowoc, Wisconsin in September 1962, nearly 6000 miles away.

How is it that a launch in 1960 in Baikonur (45N,63E) caused a Soviet satellite (K-S1) to crash in 1962 in Manitowoc (44N,87W) if we've never been to space?
