Arts & Entertainment / I'm Going to the Fiesta Bowl
« on: December 12, 2016, 03:25:43 AM »
If they don't win, there is a 87.654% probability I die tonight.

I was very lucky last time, but the odds of this have moved up to 98.97% this time around, especially since I'm about 2 Grand into this bitch. 10 rows back at midfield on the OSU side. You'll probably see me on TV.

Arts & Entertainment / Final Fantasy XV

I just picked up FF XV. I preordered a couple months ago. Ended up upgrading to the Deluxe to get the Kingsglaive DVD. I haven't really enjoyed a FF since X, so I have high hopes. Going to watch Kingsglaive tonight. I'll post back when I get around to playing, which may be a while.

Technology & Information / I Bought a PS4 Pro
« on: November 10, 2016, 08:31:03 PM »
Picked it up last night. Installed a 1TB SSD in it this morning and got the firmware installed. Bought Infinite Warfare from the store and am downloading now. I didn't have the original PS4 nor an X Bone. This should be fun. I think I'll get FIFA next.

Technology & Information / Junker is Getting a New Phone
« on: October 06, 2016, 08:41:43 PM »
What should I get?

I'm done with Apple. I've been rocking the iPhone for a while now. OG iPhone, then moved to an Evo 4G. Moved back with the 4S, then to the Nexus S. Got the iPhone 5, 5s, 6 Plus, back to a regular 6, 6S Plus, then back to a regular 6 (from changing jobs).

I can't deal with Apple anymore. The software is shit. iOS 10 has crippled my 6. I literally moved SU to a Nexus 5X yesterday from her iPhone 6.

I was considering a Pixel, but it just isn't worth the money. There isn't much difference between the Snapdragon 820/821. I don't want full time cloud surveillance so that is what eliminated the Pixel. I tinker a bit when I roll Android so that eliminates Samsung phones with their locked boot loader. I've got it narrowed to the HTC 10, LG G5, or maybe the OnePlus3 or Axon 7. May wait to see the LG V20.

Never going to do Windows Phone, so that's out. What phone should I get?

Arts & Entertainment / The Official Football/Soccer Thread
« on: June 08, 2016, 01:09:59 AM »
Since the other sports thread includes sports many outside of America don't care about (American football), it seems appropriate to have a thread dedicated to the world's sport.

Copa América Centenario just started the 2nd match of the group stage and USA is up 3-0 against Costa Rica at the moment. This is critical for them, as they would be eliminated if they lost this match. Not like USA has a chance to win, but I think it is more interesting if they make it past the group stage.

In other news, Euro 2016 starts in a few days, the International Champions Cup starts in July, and we have the Olympics as well as league play starting in August. It is going to be a great summer of football.

I am going to be attending the Leicester City v. Paris Saint Germain match in California next month, pretty excited for that as I have never been to a match before.

Suggestions & Concerns / Personal Insults

I had submitted a report for this thread:

But I'm not sure if it was seen. It has gotten way out of hand with personal attacks from user "Setec Astronomy." Can a moderator please intervene?

Technology & Information / Linux on a Dell XPS 13
« on: March 10, 2016, 10:59:54 PM »
I have a Dell XPS 13 9343 that was issued to me by work. It has decent specs (i7/8GB RAM/256GB SSD), and came loaded with Windows 10. I primarily use my MacBook for everything, at-home work included, so the XPS has sat collecting dust for months. The only time it really got any use was a couple days last month when I bricked my MacBook Air. After I got my 13" Retina Pro to replace my dead Air, the XPS went back on the shelf. I decided to at least reload Win10 on it because it still had the OEM image. But, I hate Windows 10. A lot. Come to find out that this particular model also has a developer version which was built around Ubuntu, and most of my version's internals are the same. Ubuntu is not my favorite distro, but for what I would use this laptop for, it was way better than Windows 10. I threw 15.10 on a bootable USB drive and had a clean install going in less than 15 min. Nearly everything worked flawlessly and smoothly from the start, even the touchscreen and trackpad multi-touch. I had some issues with Bluetooth, but ended up just extracting a cab file, converting it to a hcd, and copying it to the proper firmware directory; issue solved. Anyway, it has been a very enjoyable experience thus far. I think I may replace my primary work computer with it and give it a go. Anyway, if you have a XPS 13 and don't like, want, or need Windows, I recommend Ubuntu for a good Linux experience.

No, Parsifal, I am not putting OpenBSD on it. I already have a laptop for that specific purpose.

Flat Earth General / Infiltrating the Conspiracy

A bit of a sensationalist headline, I admit. But, I received my notice that in a few short months I will be heading to NASA's Ames Research Center for approximately a week. I don't want to go into too many details regarding what the trip is all about, but I will be sure to post any relevant bits of information pertaining to earth's shape here.

Announcements / Admin Resignation

Hello Everyone,

I am posting to let everyone know that I am resigning from my position as administrator here at As I have let Parsifal know, I am not resigning over anything negative or any dissatisfaction on my part. I simply want to go back to being a regular user for a while. I am not leaving the forum. I plan to be just as active as usual, if not more so. It has been quite the honor helping to shape this community with all of the great admins and mods we have here, I think we have created something pretty special. Anyway, see you all around <3

Technology & Information / New Laptop
« on: February 06, 2016, 12:25:40 AM »
So I just bricked my 13" MacBook Air. I was roughhousing with our dog and we managed to knock over my water bottle on the coffee table which fell at just the right trajectory to launch water into the exhaust grill. Just cracked it open and dried it out, but I think that may be the end for that laptop. I have a 13" XPS from work that I never used before but is coming in handy now. Regardless, it is time for a new laptop anyway. My initial inclination is another MacBook, but I wouldn't mind getting opinions from the crowd. What should I get, FES?
