Solar Eclipse of 8/21 August
« on: April 30, 2017, 06:29:43 PM »
Wondering if anyone plans to see this event. It takes place on a monday.

As the sun overtakes the moon, the shadow will evidently travel from west to east (in the opposite direction of the sun and moon). The eclipse begins out on the Pacific Ocean where the sun will arise dark on the horizon according to what I read. It afterwards proceeds from the Oregon coast over Salem East southeast across the United States crossing over St.Joseph, Missouri & Nashville, TN.

I myself will observe it from Salem, Oregon unless I manage to board an ocean bound yacht to see the sunrise dark.

One of the more informative websites which will give statistics for any city in the path:

For your information, this will be a total solar eclipse making approximately two minutes of night in the middle of the day in the places in its path.

This is not something you see everyday.

My whole family is traveling about 5 hours to Wyoming, USA to set up in the direct path.  We will be bringing telescopes and appropriate filters for the event.
