Privacy Policy Documentation

We should really have something like this with a link from our home page so we display transparency on these issues. Just what we do with user data, whether we share it with 3rd parties, whether we track people, all that kind of stuff.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Privacy_policy

There are numerous free privacy policy generators on the web to help you make these if you aren't sure how to make it. Example Below.
http://www.freeprivacypolicy.com/index-jan-2016.php?utm_expid=87121688-80.N8vjK9CKTKymv5TrlHO3sw.1&utm_referrer=http%3A%2F%2Fr.duckduckgo.com%2F

If a template is fitting us very well, maybe we could look at say Wikipedia's privacy policy and come up with something similar? we share several things in common.
https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_policy

If we already have such a thing squirrelled away, can we get a link to it under 'Privacy Policy' on the home page in the footer?

I'm guessing it would just have a page like our Ts&Cs do. We go to enormous lengths to make this site as internet friendly as possible, we don't fill it with ads or tracking or spam links or malicious code or anything, and we should let visitors know it is a safe site to use.

tracking
We use Google Analytics.

A privacy policy doesn't seem to make much sense when we do not ask for any personal information. As our site is hosted in the US, we are under no legal obligation to shower people with empty legalese. What's next, EU cookie law disclaimers all over the forum?

Pointless red tape doesn't make sites more "Internet friendly".
Read the FAQ before asking your question - chances are we already addressed it.

I'm just thinking about getting all our ducks in a row. It is why I asked selected members to rate the site.

One of the things independent raters look for is a privacy policy. These are all just small jobs that need doing once. I'd like our site to have an A1 safety rating because it deserves it. We don't have ads or malicious code, we don't track people and sell on their details, we don't sell user account info, we aren't licensing things out or using DRM. These are all virtuous properties of our home on the internet, and when independent people make a rating many look for things like "does the site have a clear and obvious privacy policy?". If ours just says we only use google analytics, then great. But we should be transparent about how awesome we are.

I have a sneaking suspicion google does take things like safety rating into consideration. I see no harm in just ticking the boxes even if it does nothing. So something like this just seems like a quick and easy tick in the box. I can't see why it would get any objections. Let's just stick it up and it is forever done after that.
