I think this is because of the vanishing points in perspectives.
Just like the two parallel lines seems to meet at distance (as in railway tracks) as you look to the distance towards horizon, parts below the line of sight becomes invisible. But it will be visible if you use a zoom lens. If there is a curvature, it will be invisible even with a zoom lens
