This is interesting:

They found a strong radio signal from a system with a known exo-planet, and the signal has no immediately known natural source.  SETI is going to continue to monitor it.  Spoiler Alert: It's the Vulcans.

I sometimes wonder if all this is just to make any real signal plausibly deniable if one is ever picked up and the "leaders" determine that proof of aliens would be bad right now.

You do know that this signal was detected over a year ago right. That's quite literally what Russia did until they confirmed it was noise.
