The only advantages I can see to modern consoles is that they can be easily played through the telly and local multiplayer, although fewer and fewer games are offering the latter.

I mean, if you're looking at a spreadsheet I suppose a PC is objectively better than a console. But for some reason this paper advantage doesn't translate to the real world. It's the reason why millions of people play on consoles still: it's just a shitload of fun. One thing I like about consoles is that I can lay back on the couch and navigate the entire platform with a controller, one-handed too. I can stand at the kitchen counter, talking in party chat, while looking across at the tv. I can walk around the living room with my wireless controller playing any game I want. There are never any pop-ups or virus scans to deal with. Every aspect of the experience is centered around games. I don't know, there are just a ton of nuances that make console gaming more fun for me.

That's all what I mean about easily connecting it to the telly.

Consoles seem to have become less and less gaming-oriented with each generation since the PS2. The core of newer consoles seems to be a really shitty PC, wherein the draw of convenience that older consoles had and still have is negated by installation processes and the downloading of patches, off-set marginally by the inclusion of social networking, streaming video, online subscription services etc., but with none of the granularity as far as hardware customisation and choice of operating system are concerned, and generally lacking all the other advantages actual PCs have.

I grew up playing games on console and on PC because they offered significantly different experiences from each other, and I still play older consoles when I want to just drop a disc in the machine and play right away, newer consoles don't seem to be designed to offer that kind of experience. Switch, despite the usual Nintendo marketing focus on tech gimmicks, at least seems to be functioning as a dedicated gaming platform rather than as a PC with a massively reduced feature set. I know it's easy to say that the two are exactly the same, and in one sense they are, but I think the difference between what Nintendo is doing with its hardware and what Microsoft and Sony are doing with theirs is pretty obvious.

This might be the first console I ever buy.

Looks dope.

To be fair, this might not have a touchscreen, and would therefor be a very terrible tablet.

Just got a Switch. It's p dope. Zelda is one of the greatest games I've played in a long time. The tablet itself is pretty hefty and doesn't look too nice sitting next to an iPad, but it's some pretty rockin fun. Also, being able to split the controller in half and hold one part in each hand is strangely satisfying.

Breath of the Wild is the best game ever made I think. The polish, artistic subtlety, and gameplay are just masterful.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead,
I'm just wondering how the switches are holding up one year on.

Also, what games would you recommend? (BOTW and MO are givens)
I hear its a good idea to use a screen saver, are your screens scratched from the dock?
Do you use it more in portable mode (thats what I'm planing to do)

When I first saw the switch my immediate thoughts were "nahhhh"
But now I'm seriously considering joining the urban hipsters on their "game wherever" odyssey.
Because the idea of lying in bed playing splatter 2 really appeals to my sense of laziness.
Plus, the thing just looks really cool...

Yeah get a tempered glass screen protector.

Also I had a Switch for a week and returned it. But don't worry about my experience. Have fun.

I wish the joy-cons were a bit bigger, but otherwise, 10/10 would recommend. Zelda is great, Mario is great, Splatoon is pretty good. However, the online functionality is pretty bad, but that's a given with Nintendo.
Also: PC Master race.
You just made my list, buddy.  >:(

I have small lil hands so the Joy-Cons are perfect for me. Agreed on online, though. Thankfully I don't like multiplayer games, generally.

Layby on the Neon today with Mario Odyssey and Zelda.
Mario Rabid comes as a freebie, also got a tempered glass protector.

8 weeks away from pickup, this thing is an expensive guilty pleasure.
Looking forward to Darkest Dungeon Crimson edition when it lands late April.
Luckily, I've never played it, should look great on the switch.

Darkest Dungeon is coming to switch? I better mark the calendar, Darkest Dungeon was probably one of my favorite games of 2016.

Ok,

I got the switch yesterday and started BOTW tonight,
Chews out the battery pretty quick, will need a power pack or another charger.
Loving the game so far, baked me some apples and clubbed some blubbery things.
The screens a lot smaller than I thought, but you don't notice it when immersed in these worlds.
Feels great in the hand, not too heavy, nice piece of kit...

You should grab a few weapons, and then rush straight to Hyrule Castle. Don't worry, it's not like there's a boss rush of all of the undefeated bosses from the divine beasts or anything.......

I ran into the outskirts near the volcano and those stupid laser spiders are nailing me.
I can't get back out to the safe lands and have no recent saves that arn't inside this hell hole area.
I think I managed to turn Zelda into a Tom Cruise style Edge of Tomorrow experience...

Anyway, I've decided to buy another switch for the better half so we can play Splatoon and Mario kart.
I'm loving the system, so user friendly...
