Philosophy, Religion & Society / Re: Republican Health Care Bill
« on: June 22, 2017, 03:52:00 PM »

The senate has gotten the bill out in public.  Finally.

Now to read it, digest it, and then vote on it in about a week.

But I thought health care bills were supposed to be passed first, and then we could find out what is in them.

Technology & Information / Re: I Bought a Sony Xperia X
« on: June 21, 2017, 04:08:41 AM »
So I am using my Xperia X as my daily driver now. Have been for about a week. After last year's saga of trying both an HTC 10 and an iPhone 7, I ended up back on my iPhone 6. My iPhone 6's Lightning port began to fail over the last couple months to where I had to fiddle with the adapter to get it to a spot to where it would charge (and would stop charging if moved even slightly). It also can no longer make a data connection, so I can't transfer pictures or do local backups.

I've got Android 7.1.2 from Sony's Concept program running nicely (with the UK version so the fingerprint scanner works properly). However, when I initially unlocked my phone back when I got it, I was unaware about the DRM key situation I described in the previous post. Long story short is that the camera on my Xperia is borked. There is a workaround which involves going back to a custom ROM, which I will eventually do so I can regain full functionality.

Unfortunately, the Concept program for the Xperia X has now ended, so 7.1.2 will be the last release this phone gets. Hopefully SailfishOS is released soon, so I can actually use this phone the way I envisioned when I bought it. It was slated for late Q2, so there is still some time to meet that deadline, although I won't be surprised if it is delayed.
curious question but I had the same problem.

Have you tried clearing out dust and lint?
I used a sewing needle on my HTC's usb and 3.5mm jack ports and now they both work like a charm.

Yes, multiple times. Tried different cables as well. The cable no longer seats securely in the Lightning port, so there isn't much to be done. I could get it to make proper contact with the charging pins, but not for the data pins. It is fine, I was looking for a reason to force myself off of the iPhone anyway. Have been for over six months now.

So I ended up fixing my iPhone 6. SU cracked her screen, and we were looking at new phones but she decided she liked her iPhone. I decided to just fix it so I ordered a new full display assembly for her phone and the lightning port/headphone assembly for mine since it was only $20 on iFixit. SU's screen only took 15 min, but it took me over an hour to finish mine. But the end result is a fully functioning iPhone 6. I think I am going to order a couple spare batteries and we will have some like-new phones.

Still going to rock my Xperia X for now. Sucks that it won't get much for updates going forward, but I will just root it soon and install a custom ROM. Hopefully SailfishOS is released for it soon.

Having said all that, I think I will buy a new flagship once the next iPhone is released as well as the next Pixel. I am leaning towards one of the Snapdragon 835 phones. The LG G6, HTC U11, and the OnePlus 5 all look pretty nice.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Re: No Religion= Peace

Without religion, we'd find some other equally arbitrary means of distinguishing 'Us' from 'Them.'

There was a really interesting series of The Island with Bear Grylls* where two groups of 'survivors' were marooned on two parts of a tropical island, a group made up of 18-30 year olds and another made up of over 30s. On the third or fourth day, the two groups who were both struggling to find food and water met one another. You might have expected them to merge the groups, better sub-divide the tasks, and work together. Instead, they had formed very distinct 'In' and 'Out' groups and were at each others' throats before long.

I know that this is just trash reality TV - probably at least partly scripted and carefully edited to exacerbate minor differences, not to mention favouring incompatible people in the first place - but even if entirely fictional, it shows how quickly arbitrary lines in the sand are drawn.

This is a very real thing called realistic conflict theory. The old Robbers cave study did something similar with 11 and 12 year old boys.

It is also explored in the documentary series Lost.

I merged the two identical threads you made.

If the Earth is flat, how can people travel all the way around the Earth in one direction and return to the same place?

You don't know how circumnavigation works, do you? It isn't surprising given that your other questions show that you haven't done any research whatsoever.

Oh well. Best wishes, and welcome.

You and your team friends are false flag.

You need to stop with the personal attacks and low-content posting in the upper fora. This is the only warning you will get. The next one is a month-long ban.

The final step after that is a permanent ban. If you can't follow the rules, then don't post.

We shouldn't have let this thread die last summer  :'(

Currently watching Sounders/Timbers in the US Open Cup.

USMNT picked up a pretty big draw against Mexico a couple days ago in a World Cup qualifier.

Confederations Cup starts this weekend.

Going to be another great summer of football. Going to have to remember to post here during the Premier League and La Liga seasons. For the other two or three people interested in soccer...

The Cavs then pay more in luxury tax than the 76ers have paid in salary over the past 5 years.

So you are saying to Trust the ProcessTM

but at the end of the day GS just has too many weapons.
Hmm, I don't know. Even Steve Kerr acknowledged that they, "...had very little talent, actually. It was mostly coaching."

Iggy and Draymond had some sweet chemistry down low
Nowhere near the chemistry between TT and David West js.

I would like to see a quadrilogy next year, but only if Cleveland can sufficiently bloat their roster with an all-star point guard.
Sign and trade lands the Cavs with Damian Lillard and Kawhi Leonard, losing only Kevin Love to the Spurs who still go on to win the title.

Ok warning taken, but I have to ask, how was him calling me bitter not a low content post?

He actually answered OP's question with something that contributed to the thread. Your claim that this forum is:

Not a debate site at all...

is not only objectively false, but it is also detrimental to newcomers. There is plenty of debate that has been taking place for years. I am sorry if you don't understand what we do here, but that is a you problem.

Anyway, if you want to keep posting in this thread, then stay on topic. There is no reason to derail OP's thread anymore than you already have.

is this a fair debate site? its just i find a lot of places just have a lot of abuse
As you can see from the response above, we have a small group of bitter Round Earthers who feel honour-bound to spit venom in most threads. However, they're few and far between, and as long as you're happy to look past them, you'll notice we welcome honest debate from educated visitors.

LOL to bitter.   Amused is much more appropriate.

Please refrain from low-content posting in the upper fora. If you don't have anything useful to add, then don't bother. Warned.

To the OP:

SexWarrior's post is accurate. We encourage the free and open exchange of ideas, regardless of your position on the shape of the earth. We do have rules, which I would suggest checking out along with the FAQ and the wiki.
